Depends if it allows us to then get Mbeumo or Eze etc.
VDV, Danso, Dragusin, Collins is a stable enough base for Frank to build from.
Romero only came good near the end of season.
I remember all the games he was dashing out into midfield and not recovering on turnovers, leaving massive holes for the oppo to run into and people were absolutely furious when it led to goals.
Call me crazy but I think Eze would do more for our team than Mbeumo.
When he's on it he's off the charts.Call me crazy but I think Eze would do more for our team than Mbeumo.
Player like Romero was absolutely crucial for what Ange wanted to do. He was a deep lying playmaker at time.
if settling for Collins also allows us to buy Branthwaite, I think that makes the squad better
You might be right. He is very effective. IMO a much better player than Johnson. Though I don't give the latter dogs abuse. He's a decent option who knows how to put the ball in the back of the net. He's good but elite?
As far as I can see, the season just gone is the first time he's reached double figures since 2019, when he was in the Championship. His assists are ok, but for a bit of context, Johnson has 22 goals and 14 assists in all competitions (50 games). Mbuemo has 20 goals and 8 assists (41 games), yet Johnson gets dogs abuse on here.
I think it's a stretch to label Mbuemo as "elite."
Thing with Mbeumo is I find him to be a bit too poachy. He’s a great player but doesn’t exactly strike fear into defenders when running at them and his cuts, crosses, and on-ball decision making, while miles clear of Johnson’s, are only decent for a winger. He’s more of an inside forward for me than anything. He's like a poor man’s Mo Salah with less dribbling ability. This is of course a good thing but imo he’d go a bit missing here. When he's on it he's off the charts.
But he can blow hot and cold, mate.
Rarely seen Mbeumo have an off day.
Guy is super consistent and can properly bag as well, and has incredible work ethic.

Collins is probably better than Branthwaite at this point of their careers.
Branthwaite has one foot and it’s not that great. Solid defender and set piece threat but Dragusin is legitimately better in the build up than Branthwaite
I hear you.Thing with Mbeumo is I find him to be a bit too poachy. He’s an excellent add for a team with a coherent build-up environment and a lot of chance creation. But we simply don’t have that, our team is riddled with technical insecurity and so Eze who can act as both outlet and metronome would do more for us.
I've already said that the stats don't tell the whole story. However, how dangerous is a player when in possession, when, apart from this season, he's not contributed a whole lot, even in the Championship? You can’t just look at the numbers when you analyse a player. Johnson has become a good predator from 6 yards out but he is virtually non-existent in build up play. Can’t dribble, can’t really pass or cross with any quality, doesn’t shoot from more than 10 yards out. He is not dangerous when in possession of the ball. Mbuemo is.
Call me crazy but I think Eze would do more for our team than Mbeumo.
Not disagreeing with anything you said. Just laying out potential scenarios.
As we both know CBs that can play out the back and are very good defensively are usually very expensive. They aren't the kind of players I expect Frank to pound the table for.
Maybe he wants no-nonsense CBs first and foremost and will look to buildup differently than Ange. I dont know.
I actually disagree. Eze at his best is a total game changer I agree.Call me crazy but I think Eze would do more for our team than Mbeumo.
I hear you.
But the guy is super robust and effective and can deliver numbers.
I just don't see the downside and would suit us well.
If we had Eze instead would still love it, of course, but I just can't take any shine away from Mbeumo.
Admired his game for a while.
tbh I think some of this may be subconscious coping because I don’t believe Mbeumo is gettable, United have their hooks into him already and if it becomes a wage competition there’s only one winner. I do agree a RW who can do more then tap-ins at the back post should be priority #1 for our attack.I actually disagree. Eze at his best is a total game changer I agree.
Mbeumo is more consistent.
And RW / RF is a position we are weaker in. We actually have some decent MFers and need to see what Frank can do with them.
I'd be happy with either one. Same age. Eze is probably a little more talented and Mbeumo more consistent a threat.Call me crazy but I think Eze would do more for our team than Mbeumo.
I hear you but CBs are expensive for a reason. Top teams that want to win trophies understand that CBs are often the big game winners and the most important part of the spine of your team.
It’s not so much about Frank but the club. If they want to replace Romero with Collins they can fuck off tbh.
I'm just hoping probably unrealistically that Mbeumo is close to Frank, wants to stay in London, and that Levy will do the decent thing and offer him £200k p/w.tbh I think some of this may be subconscious coping because I don’t believe Mbeumo is gettable, United have their hooks into him already and if it becomes a wage competition there’s only one winner.
