Management Thomas Frank

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Arse still in the mindset that Wenger built a dynasty and a new manager can do the same..
I wonder if United still believe they can have a 10-20 year manager again too.

Evidence of 2 actual, longer term fans that have been fully brainwashed in the cult of Postecoglou.
His only European experience was getting tonked out of it with Celtic. But that's OK.

This is reminding me of Jenas all over again.
I’m certainly not an Ange fan. He won the trophy so I’d have given him another shot. My point is that this is another mediocre hire. And possibly the most mediocre since Poch. Who knows, it could work out as well… but the trophy win had our club celebrating like nothing we’ve seen since 1991 (I think).

Is he Eric Diers Dad? :adegrin2:

I am optimistic. No one will look at this appointment as the one that puts us over the top, but I have confidence now that next season will be better and the club will head in the right direction in the immediate term.

Improved tactics, player development, stopping the underperforming of players already in place... working out how to defend a set piece at a schoolboy level... Those things alone probably make us top half instantly and we can build from there.

The squad isn't good enough for more, but heading upward instead of into a scrap this year will be a better feeling.
I'm looking forward to see a system in action. With Ange, every other game looked like the players just met for the first time on the parking lot outside the arena.

If your definition of 'most mediocre since Poch' is that he's not The Post, he's not Nuno and he's not the failed superegos of Mou & Conte, then I'll take 'most mediocre' every time, thank you.

Not sure how I feel about this one. Glad we’ve sorted it quickly. Wish him the very best of luck. Hopefully he will bring most of his team with him, as from what I’ve seen they are a strong collective, offering opinions, analytics and insights. I think this was the thing that impressed me the most in the videos I’ve seen.

A manager seems to be the most difficult appointment, as most need the right structure, players and fans for them to do well, it’s a hard mix to get right and it differs from club to club.

I might be wrong but I think Frank tried to buy BJ for Brentford?
Agree with what is being said about Maddison and Kulu, both need to be more consistent and influential in the middle of the park next season, otherwise one or both will find themselves regularly on the bench as Bergvall steps up.
Didn't Brentford want Gray as well? Be interesting to see where Frank actually plays him

My worry about Frank is we whinge about his perceived shortcommings when in actual facts the squad isnt good enough due to a lack of investment as always.

Pre Mourinho, dont care if we play shit all season as long as we win.....post mourinho, the football was insuferable
Conte as above. Post conte, for the love of god give me attacking football, I want my Spurs back
Ange...I've got my spurs back. Post Ange, hes too gung ho and inflexible.
Pre Frank...I want a flexible manager...Post Frank...he tinkers too much and doesnt know his best team. Give me a system maneger that never changes.

Perhaps Im too negative. But its kind of how I see it panning out. We slate the manager but the main reason we underperform is our players arnt very good. Weve had every type of manager there is, including some legendary ones. They have all struggled.

He literally just won a major European trophy...
Before he came to Spurs, his only experience in Europe was getting tonked out of it.
But that was ok because......Ange.
Frank hasn't got any experience, which is no worse than being humiliated and experienced, but people see that as the negative.

Not sure why im explaining this because Angebois are incapable of rationale.

If we'd battled hard and lost 22 games by one goal, been unlucky in defeat
I was looking a while back at our PL defeats and couldn't think of even one match where we were unlucky to lose. Closest we got was the 1-2 v Barcodes at the Lane. That goal with the handball was annoying, as they often get pinged in the lead up. But the ref bods watching said it wasn't wrong to let play go on. And FFS we'd only just gone ahead, we just couldnt hold onto a lead.

As against that:

AFCB home 2-2; they battered us
FFC 1-1; they were easily the better team;
AFCB away: 0-1 couldve been 5
CP away: 0-1 didnt lay a glove on a team that hadnt won a game to that point
MC home: 0-1 couldve been 3 down after 10 mins
LFC 3-6: I honestly think they coulve got 10 if they'd needed for the Goal Difference
Villa 1-2 FA cup: they shouldve scored 4 or 5 and our goal was a consolation in the last mins

Even Ipswich away a 4-1 win: we coughed up 3 horrible chances in the first few mins while 0-0

The domestic season was shit and we deserved nothing better

I think the 3 managers to move us on as a club the most were all a) mediocre and b) not even first choice Levy hired.

But that's not to say mediocre managers are always successful at Spurs. Nuno wasn't. And Ange, a coach with absolutely no high level experience or success in 30 years was a calamity at league level.

The premier league is a much higher standard than the Europa league anyway.
