Management Thomas Frank

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Each to his own and I used to add vinegar but don’t now as I use the sieve method but it’s the best way to cook an egg imv

Fast, efficient, consistent. Includes poaching baskets. I get perfect results every time (soft-boiled is 9 o'clock on the dial for a medium-large egg).

*ahem*

Thomas Frank, Yay!

Johnson would be generally more effective at BFC who play more on the break as you'd expect. I'm keen to see how he make use of him. If at all, who knows he might decide to sell him. But I've thought for a long time that his best position for us would be 2nd striker alongside Dom. His finishing is good, and I'm not talking about getting to the far post for the tap ins, which no one else can get to because they dont have his pace. His shooting when one on one is very accurate. More often than not he hits it across the keeper without away spin so gets inside the far post.
Totally agree, his tap ins are the ones people expect and were the biggest majority, but when he's scored from any kind of distance, they've generally been beautifully controlled and placed, almost Sonnyesque.

The one issue which worries me about Frank is he's not managed a side competing in europe - and the big change imo is moving from playing about 40 games a season in PL and domestic cups playing typically once a week to adding circa 15 european games into the fixture list and playing weekend, mid week, weekend etc. Spurs played 60 games last season

Playing every 3 or 4 days (ie weekend and midweek) means very little time to coach between games (players need a full day off after every game, so coaching is reduced to around 2 maybe 3 days a week. Last season Kulusevski clocked up our 2nd highest minutes played which converted into 90 minute matches was 38 matches (out of 60 played) and just 11 players played more than 30 match equivalent miutes

And that in turn means needing almost 2 full teams (ie 22 players) available (ie fit) to rotate in and out of the side to complete the 60 game fixture list.

We will start Frank's tenure with 22 better players than 12 months ago that Ange had, and I'd like a couple of extra List B players added not taking up squad positions (eg Devine, Donley) to enlarge the available squad. But its a big change for Frank going from playing 40 games a season at Brentford to playing 60 games a season next season.

Is the difference that large? Surely Bees were in FA and League cup, so they'd be hitting 45ish. 50% more seems massive... just wondering.

We are the 9th richest club in the world, however we're the 5th richest in England, and pretty much level with Chelsea. So there are at least 5 other clubs that are better funded, more established, with better players.
I'm not saying a trophy shouldn't be the target, of course it should. However to expect it in his very first season is not really a fair demand considering 'higher profile' managers have tried and failed.

Without going back through the history books, our most celebrated managers in recent times hadn't won a great deal. What had Poch won? Harry won the FA cup if I recall but he'd been managing for a long time before that happened.
We've been there and done that with serial winners......Mourinho, Conte, Ange....I don't remember anyone demanding Ange win a trophy in his first season.

From everything I seen and read, it seems Frank is an excellent man manager, something we desperately need because we have that really soft underbelly that desperately needs to be fixed.
Indeed, you can't underestimate the advantage there is of the longevity of a successful manager and a few absolute stars in each team. Caicedo and Palmer, Salah and Allison, Isak, Rodri, Haaland, Odegaard and Rice. We don't really have anyone of that stature or maybe it hasn't been brought out in them enough. And other than slot they all have a decent amount of time as managers. It will be superb if he gets ahead of any of these top 5 ish teams in his first year.

I really hope he gets to bring all of his back room staff, we need a proper management team, not a manager and a group of people slung together. Get them all in for him and see if they can hit the ground running.

Its the playing frequency (or lack of time between games) that seems to catch out both managers and players (who might manage 45 games without europe playing once a week but struggle to play 40 games playing weekend and midweek in europe and PL) out
Your concerns are valid.

I have hope that his Champo experience might be useful on this area. He spent there like what? 2 seasons? I know its not same level/less travelling etc, but at least he should be a little familiar with the rhythm that includes midweek game

Like most people on this thread I'd like Spurs to play like 1970 Brazil, and win every game 12-0 but in the real world I'm pragmatic enough to realise that sometimes all that counts is the result.
It was nothing to do with not winning 12-0, it was a dreadful performance on top of months of dreadful performances before and after it. We were lucky to escape Ibrox with that draw. We looked second rate all over the pitch to a team which has never really recovered from going out of business.
