Then we’ll buy Branthwaite for £70m

That’ll teach ‘em!
Yeah thats my guess. We'll end up buying Branthwaite for more than Romero so will be awful business in the short term. We'll use Richarlsion to soften the blow so probably hand over between 30-40m on top.

I don't think Brantwaite is worth any investment over 50m but Levy seems obsessed with paying the english tax. We are literally linked with every top England player who's not at a top club

Branthwaite for £70m for fucks sake

Sort it out that’s a terrible deal. I’d genuinely rather spend it on Collins than spunk £70m on him.

That would be typical of us, always paying a price that reflects a player's future possibilities/potential - and how often does that materialise?

We have a world cup winner (Romero) who is experienced and established, but we would pay lots more for someone who has done nothing yet. Could turn out great, could end up crap, but we will take that chance. Seems like Spurs take lots of chances on managers and players, the ultimate result of which, over 23 years of taking these chances, is to finish 17th in the Prem and be without a manager.

Nice spin, mate.

First of all - across whole season Romero was not top 5 player for us.
You are fully mixing up "potential dream scenario" with real world.

And then you say that we are also selling Son, indicating like it would be massive loss, even though you yourself admitted that he is actually not the player he used to be. And further downplay things with terms like "mid range punts". While again - coming back to real world, then Mbeumo is extremely clear upgrade on Son - 20 goals + 8 assists from last year. And from 25 yo player on his way up. While Sonny whithout the doubt is on his way down.

We do not know if it will be Mbeumo or someone else, but right now we do not know if that is "mid range punt" or not. But you state that as a fact.
So 100% spin and fantasyland in that post.
Romero only turns up when he wants to.

No disputing the fact that on his day he is a monster of a defender but i have always said when top offers are received then cash in and move on.

He was heroic in Bilbao but so was everyone else who played for us

I saw a post on Sunday linking us to Wilfried Singbo from AS Monaco i cant say ive ever heard of him before but on closer inspection looks like a warrior of a centre back with VDV pace to match

:

Mbueno is miles ahead of Johnson as an attacker and would certainly help Porro more on the right.
So you’d suggest this is the first position we should be concentrating on? The one where we spend the most money? The biggest upgrade we could make?

I don’t believe so. I think we have more urgent needs. The aforementioned defensive midfielder. Some depth at left back. A top left sided attacker to replace Son.

I don’t think our most urgent need and biggest upgrade is Mbueno over Johnson.

LB rotation is spoken about enough. Major need this summer.

For me he’s falls into the Solanke category of he’s good and works hard but they’ve both only had 1 stand out season in the EPL and given neither of them are youngsters breaking through, this is of concern. They’re both squad players, options off the bench that are definitely better than what we currently/previously had recently but they’re miles off a prime Kane and Son. I know those 2 were a rarity but if you’re going to drop from the Gold standard then you ideally need Silver and not settle for Bronze.

Uhm, I agree with you.
But honestly I'd prefer to focus more on what we could have.
For example, Tel with Bayern has been an outstanding talent with great upside.
We've used it badly. I'd prefer to invest money on him and use him properly.

I would imagine that anyone who didn't rate Ange as a manager and tactician would hold their opinions on our current players that they have only really seen play under him, until they see what Frank can do?

Yeah sell Romero for 50m because we can't meet his demands, and then spend more than 50m on a younger player who has the potential to one day maybe be as good as Romero. Horrific cycle.

I would expect Frank to put players where they're going to succeed and not constantly putting square pegs in round holes.

Never said it should be our first acquisition.
