Can't help but feel Cherki will turn out to be the far better deal than Wirtz. Wirtz is not 80 million better.
Agreed about the players' qualities, but I think that Wirtz will eventually play to his full potential under Slot. Will Guardiola get everything out of Cherki at City? Not so sure.

Both are incredibly talented, but the coaching, man-management and system etc. play a big role in how well they will do for their new clubs.

Liverpool probably overpaid but a bit like Rice at Woolwich it’s for a reason. Liverpool’s midfield is a land of number 8’s, good all rounders but they need particularly with how Slot plays a specialist 10 and they have it.

If Liverpool buy a DM and striker to top off Wirtz and the full backs they will be mint. I know Gravenberch is good but he isn’t a DM in the sense of controlling the game with his passing, he still looks like an 8 shoehorned into the 6 so I am not surprised they are looking at Stiller.

Yeah, I get that. He's a great player and will be a top signing for them regardless of the cost. But I think Cherki could be an absolute steal for what they paid for him. It would take Pep a couple of seasons at least to coach all the flair out of Cherki's game and turn him into a robot as he's done with Foden and Grealish. But I don't think he will be there beyond the season after the upcoming one.

Very different players.
Cherki will be one of the top 3 players in the league per dribbling, no doubt about it.
But Wirtz already has the vision of the game, the ability to insert and play in the last 30 meters of a champion. At Leverkusen he was sensational, and he is very young.

Yes but their net spend the last couple of seasons before was very low. Theyve also got a bunch of huge earners leaving their books this summer, plus more outs to come. They needed a rebuild, plus they are the second highest revenue club in the world. That figure is also in Euros so its more like 300m spent across 3 transfer windows, they only spent 20 million on Savinho the summer before, in which they sold 100m of players, so a net spend of 200m of 3 transfer windows is hardly a lot for a club of that size... weve spent more...
Its that revenue thats been called into question

Rice isn't a great example...... He hasn't improved them.

I would beg to differ in that one, towards the end of the season he was carrying that team, his defensive work, elite ball carrying gives them an energy and ability to dominate. He has weaknesses but Woolwich’s issue isn’t Rice, it’s the limited forward line and Arteta’s lack of adaptability with his forwards and when I say adaptability I don’t mean using Merino as a striker which is flexible but the lack of creativity in how they build up, their play just looks too robotic and that has been an issue throughout Arteta’s tenure as manager.

Partey and Rice is a top quality midfield, Odegaard can be improved upon though. Saliba doesn’t look anywhere near the player when he plays for France, Woolwich’s midfield gives him a lot of protection and Rice is a huge part of that.
