Transfers The Summer Transfer Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We don't need useful, we need quality.

Spending 30mil on that kid was a ridiculous decision.

But cheap wages. But Levy.
Every teams needs useful youngsters who can put in a shift either coming off the bench or stepping in for unavailable first team players. Noone is going to have a Ribery level player happy to sit on the bench. 30 mil is not much of a fee for a player these days

Past payments are not a particular problem, providing that we pay them off and buy players with staged payments this summer. That way we might well afford to buy players worth say £200m on 5 year contracts this summer as that means we only play £40m this year.

Pay £68m this year for one player, and its more of a struggle to buy other players. And that is true for virtually every club.

FYI 95%+ of all transfers are done on staged payments - and that suits all clubs for reasons of cash flow and allows all clubs to comfortably afford multiple players every year.

Also worth knowing that banks do not like funding player purchases - too much danger of a player becoming injured and potential total loss of of value.
Agree with all your saying except the bold bit. Banks love loaning money to clubs given the steady revenue streams. However banks require clubs to take insurance on players in case of injury that affects value.

Ever wondered why new players being signed fail medicals like Nusa did with Brentford? It’s not the club medical team who fail them, it’s the insurance company. They deem the existing condition or conditions to be too great a risk to insure and the banks and/or club don’t want to take the risk of the signing uninsured.

Ndombele was just poor scouting combined with changing the managers to ones who have no need for that type of player even if he didn’t get lazy. Our scouting and general decision making needs to be far better and I am a little more hopeful with Paratici/Lange/Vanai structure we will be better placed when we do spend big to make better choices. We can’t live in the shadow of the Hitchen era, that’s gone thankfully.
Ndombele failure is wholly on Ndombele. He was wanted the world over and it was a coup for us to get him. The change of manager did not impact his love of Pizza Hut.

True in terms of letting himself down although ideally we might have picked that up with better scouting. He had the world at his feet talent wise, could have been one of the best midfielders in world and played like one for France and Lyon for 1-2 seasons. However even with the right mentality he wasnt the best suited for a team like Jose or Nuno where sitting deep for long periods without the ball was the main requirement.

Agree- we are competing in the CL this year, not 2-3 years from now.

Before our EL success Levy was making it known that were almost broke, going put of business.

If that is the case and we have a large number of contracts to pay off this Summer then every penny counts.

We have cover on the left wing (depending on the future of Son) with Odobert, Moore and Solomon (yet to be decided).

Take that money, send Tel back and put that money towards Eze.

I think Frank already understands that we do need some experience in the front three, and not more players for the future.

Solanke 's goals were all tap ins. He is not a forward for a Champions League club.
If we can move him on, we should.
What a ridiculous take. He's a striker, his job is to finish off moves created by others, by being in the right place at the right time. When those opportunities are provided for him, he finishes them more often than not.

He is a forward for a CL club, quite literally.

Sausage obviously too young to remember Duncan, Lineker, Allen and the like.

Stupid comment to suggest that any striker is a "tap in merchant".

In a season where Solanke had no support, little continuity of players alongside him in a system where he was flogged to death yet still produce 16 goals and 7 assists is a very good return.

Frank will get him in the top five goalscorer's next season.
