Transfers The Summer Transfer Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

No, no, I'm not. You were not comparing them to US - you said they were paid what the TOP players were getting. Not spurs - but the top. My point was that they didn't spend what the top teams were on wages, and still arent BUYING players - bar one on wages that the top teams are.

Allison and Salah were categorically not signed in line with the very top wages at the time.

VVD was. That is one player - They did not win the league by constantly matching the top teams for wages or even fees.

People have constantly been talking about transfer fees being a red herring, and WAGES being the marker for people to be successful - I can find you countless posts saying this.

Liverpool have shown that is not true - Woolwich have shown that is not true, United have shown that is not true, Chelsea have shown that is not true.

What is true is that it is multifaceted and requires a number of things to happen. Well-paid players are one, sure, but so is a squad built together as a squad with a coach that fits the squad they have - you need your best players to stay injury free too and also, have your closest footballing rivals slip up.

It’s obviously about comparing them to us in terms of transfer ambition. Just look at the way they acted to overtake us.

The willingness to spend top of the range amounts on total transfer cost for players like Van Dijk, Mane, Alisson and now Wirtz IS the difference. Maybe you can make the case that Salah would have been achievable for our model but the wage increases since and the top shelf players they’ve signed to build a winning team around him is sth Levy has NEVER done

The player who played 2nd most minutes last season was Kulusevski whose minutes were equivalent to 38 games out of 60 games in all competitions last season.

Just 11 players played enough minutes to be equivalent to 30 or more games last season (ie more than half games)

So we need a fairly large squad, not just a first 11, and to do that in CL we need to include players who are CL and/or List B (u21's who have been at Spurs for more than 2 years to get above 21 players (17 overseas and 4 HG).

The whole concept of a first team player has gone out of the window : I doubt if what most thought our first team last season played together more than 6 games (out of 60) due to injury, need to rotate or otherwise not available.
It’s really not a difficult concept

Buying someone you think will go into the first 11

A realistic and successful window for me would be the below:

1) Romero Stays
2) 20-30m on a New LCB/LB type. Preferrably an under the radar option who's young, tall and quick. Someone who can push Udogie and VDV and it won't feel like a massive "Ben Davies" dropoff whenever they are called to play. Ideally sell Ben Davies once this new player comes in.
3) 60m on Eze or Semenyo.
4) New CDM. Wharton/Baleba is the dream but I wouldn't be against an older option like Luiz/Paulinha either. This is the position we need to improve on the most so can't be going for some cheap prospect here! Selling Bissouma should help fund this.

If we cash in on Richarlison or Son then we need to go and replace them but I'm indifferent on what happens here. No guarantee their replacements will be any better.

Fair enough.

To me there still no hard rule about what signing would make fans happy.

We spent £60m on Solanke, who helped us win a trophy, but I dare say that isn't the ambition most want.

Most people weren't really impressed with the VDV signing but he's now one of our gems.

My point is that we all build our squads differently and we'll never agree.

There's more chance of John ( Tottenham Massive Tottenham Massive ) actually contributing some actual player targets.
Sure. But again you’re kinda waffling around something that is really obvious

Meanwhile the scams have started on SC again. I do watch the thread for entertainment but it's a shame on Spurs fans that so many still believe in SC ITKs who're only get things right after it's all over the news...

ITK thread! Boom!

Donated!

Why do they need money? As in what is their reading for needing money to provide ‘itk’? Does it somehow give them access to more or better itk?

Like how to they possibly sell the ‘please donate’
So odd

You want a few ‘dickheads’, the type that are shithouses to the opposition, but good team players and not likely to upset the group harmony.

I reckon those three probably fall into that category.

The no dickhead thing is a bit gimmicky and vague to me. I know it comes from the All Blacks and the culture code but in truth, there aren’t many footballers on the planet who would fit the selfless style culture that the all blacks had.

Toney and Maupay have definitely acted in detrimental ways to the team at times but on the pitch they are also both players who can help a team m play well and be a cunt to play against like you said
