de Jong rejection hsd nothing to do with Levy

Poch had no options for alternative players.

Roll on to 2019 and Poch selection Ndombele and Lo Celso (rejecting Bruno Fernandes so he could sign his Argentinian choice Europa League final: How Bruno Fernandes became Manchester United's heart) blowing circa £150m and it took 4 or 5 years to get rid of the pair.

Levy has made mistakes - but not all mistakes are Levy's.
Poch had been pushed to a mindset where he refused Levy's alternatives. Has that ever happened with a manager at any other time either before or after where the club signed no player for 18 months?! Imagine how far you have to push a manager where they will accept no alternative whatsoever. That summer he also wanted ndombele but we couldn't get him either.

Cristian Romero is getting phone calls 'every day' to lure him into £50m Tottenham exit

WTF? Simeone following the Perez RM playbook. Aren’t there rules about ‘tapping up’ contracted players from other clubs? Ringing Romero almost every day!? Some people have no respect. If this is true Levy should either put a formal complaint to UEFA or just tell Simione to fuck off and the price goes up by a million for each call. The article also says Levy wants 50 million quid. No way he’s selling Cuti for less than 65-70 knowing DL. Probably the article is bullshit. How would they know what calls Simeone is or isn’t making anyway?

The questions is with
A) The new stadium a promised leveller by Levy
B) Plenty of sustainability wriggle room
C) By far the lowest wage bill of any comparable size club

Why is our “finite resource” less than our competition .

Lack of desire and ambition is my view , what’s yours?
To me it’s 100% this. I see Liverpool spending gobs of money to get their targets and we hear “well, we can’t do that.” And why not? We were all told that the stadium would see us compete, and we heard this eeek that the clubs wants to win the PL and CL. We are supposedly this incredibly well managed (from a financial perspective) organization. Yet we are stuck looking for bargains and castoffs who we hope can fill a void.

Why are you so keen to do things on a budget , a budget that is clearly significantly less than we can afford .

It’s a fact the most successful teams are more successful, yes the likes of Brighton have done well on data . if that is the limit of your ambition with a 60k stadium charging the earth for a ticket , whilst hosting numerous events we were promised would make us competitive then you do you .

Your posts always read like it’s your money , why do you care
Re-read the first post you replied to about opportunity cost.

I didn't see Scouse bringing if players less than week after Slott started?

If Frank is part of the management recruitment process then Levy/Lange wouldn't bring anyone in until Frank had started and approved.

How do you know that some deals haven't been already agreed?

To say that we are "stuck looking for bargains and castoffs" is total bollocks mate.

I think players like Udogie, Micky, Bentancur, Kinsky, Danso, Dragusin and the like were bargains, what is wrong with that?

But our net spend on transfers is significantly higher than Liverpool’s this decade.

🤯😶

Gray hasn't shown anything to say he's got great upside, neither has Tel. My thoughts on Udogie and Odobert are well known. Sarr hasn't improved much (if at all) either. Donley was on loan at a League One outfit last season, Vusko was in Belgium. Mikey chewed more gums than he had minutes. Kinsky and Drags? Lol.

Obviously time is on their side and yeah some/all could become world beaters, but let's not pretend they're Yamals or Mbappes at their age just cause they're our kids.

More like 5 or 6 but okay.

Romero is only on the A-list cause he's Spurs (them bloody rose tinted glasses) and cause Qatar gifted the Argies the WC in '22.

None of the others are elite, that's why they're with Tottenham and not PSG, Real, City, Pool...

Your middle name Misery?

If you don't think Romero is World class then you simply don't know football.

Who would you buy to replace him who is better? He's now won four major competitions including a World Cup, and was the player of the EL competition.

Messi is quoted as saying that Romero is the best CB he has ever played with. But I guess you can find a conspiracy theory with that as well.

Where did Poch prefer Lo Celso over Fernandes? Please post some facts that make that not about the money.

So your an expert on Poch's mindset are you ?

And you think buying Ndombele a year earlier would have helped ? And that's despite the benefit of seeing what a waster that player has been at Spurs and all the clubs he has been loaned to ? Jeez. Lots of 'African Princes with huge £m sums in banks just need £10k to unlock' actively want to be introduced to you (electronically of course)

No but Liverpool doing everything to push on from a position of strength . Have we ever done that under Levy ?
The answer might be somewhat subjective but imho the answer is a massive NO

You need to look at how much Henry has just saved this week at the Red Sox to see where the money was moved in order for Liverpool t spend that money.

I think they saved something like 313.5 million on his contract.

That money Henry can do what he see's fit with, it's his business. Scouse are not financing the Wirtz deal with new money.

I watched Ndombele for a good number of games for Lyon and one for France, he was playing at an elite standard, he looked like he was going to become one the best midfielders around. Pretty much everyone was delighted we bought him. Hard to know he didn’t really like football and was going to take the contact from us as a means to retire from football. Elite scouting might have picked that up but there was zero wrong with his talent, he had everything we needed other than he was underneither an arsehole. And that lesson from that might be we don’t sign Kudas.

But wasn’t the stadium massively over budget?

Also he was signed to play Poch’s style of football and almost immediately had Jose’s anti-football thrust on him which he was completely unsuited to.

Fernandes wanted to come to Spurs, Poch chose to bring Lo Celso in.

Poch has a history of preferences for Argentinian players - eg Dani Osvaldo recruited by Poch at Espanyol, sacked by club for behaviour, recruited by Poch at Southampton, sacked by Club after headbutting team-mates in training (so Clubs lost multiple millions in fees by having to sack player).
