Ok fair call. Not too many Rodris out there but the best we can get. Stiller, Rovella, Wharton or even (at a pinch) Onana from Villa.

On a scale of 1-10..... 10 meaning genuinely "world class".... How highly would you rate those 4?

(Side question...... Correct me if I'm wrong, but they're not all the same style of player. Should we not focus on a specific profile rather than just the broad-stroke of needing a #6.)

Ok fair call. Not too many Rodris out there but the best we can get. Stiller, Rovella, Wharton or even (at a pinch) Onana from Villa. To me it’s THE most important position we need to fill. Let’s face it Bis and Bent aren’t up to it. We had the 6th best attack (statistically) last season but our defence was shit. Yes we had injuries but you need a defensive mid who does the defensive grunt work. We haven’t had one for …. God knows how long
I'm pretty sure we didn't have any space for a 6 to operate in. So even if one of ours *could* play that position, we wouldn't have seen it. Our entire midfield was about 5m deep.

Clearly one area we don’t need to change is CB.
The 120ish goals we conceded over two seasons beg to differ.

But the other 19 teams in the PL say don't change anything.

Romero, VDV, Dragusin, Danso, Vuskovic, Dorrington, Philips with Gray and Davies as cover.
Romero plays 20 games a season, still a liability in the air and goes to sleep too often.

Micky been a broken body and crap in the air for such a giant.

Drag - lol.

Danso is good, but the rest are pretty much untested kids & and 6/10 Ben.

Bit maxed out, at least 4 of them are quality as well.
Wow.

Wow.

We conceded lots of goals becuase we played the most attacking system in the league with Porro ans Udogie as AM’s. We also scored a fuck ton of goals yet are desperate to sign forwards, why?

Tell me honestly what is most talented

The defence

Porro Romero Van Der Ven Udogie
Spence Danso Dragusin Gray

The forward line

Johnson Solanke Son
Tel Richy Odobert

The defence has players that would get into top 4 teams, our attack doesn’t.

Understand the club trained situation. Some people said he was pretty good? Haven’t seen him ever play

He seems to have mixed feelings from the Sunderland fans, if their fan forum is anything to go by. Some thing he's the best LB in the Championship, whilst others not so much.
I read a piece on him by the Sunderland Post, which does regard him highly, though he's had a bit of an up & down season as a result of some injuries, which will always affect your form.

It's almost impossible to get a true picture from a fan forum, you only have to look at our own to see how wide the spectrum can be when evaluating different players. However, from what I've seen, he is highly regarded by the majority and, more importantly, by the club who wants him to renew his contract.

Whether he'd translate that to the PL is anyone's guess.

All this talk about big money for wingers and 10s. What we need MOST is a world class 6. I can’t understand why it’s not our number 1 priority. Makes me question the recruiting team and the football department at large.
100% this, a quality no. 6 should be the priority, the best we can get our hands on, rather spend money here than anywhere else.

Still think we need another quality CH, we all saw what happened last yr when our first choice pairing was out. Danso is decent enough, but none of the rest have shown they are good enough to step up yet, too much to risk for another season. Vuk too young, Drag out until Xmas, loanees would be asking some step up.

I do think one of Cirkin or KWP will come in. Neither are up to standard of course but it’s better that than running Porro into the ground imo.

Game theory wise: 1: You can survive a mediocre player playing a few matches in rotation. 2: You cannot survive a serious injury to Porro or Udogie.

Our club trained issues are terrible and it’s a shite position to be in, but it’s not like KWP/Cirkin are National League mugs.

was lack of balance why we were open imo. In terms of actual ability, the final third is where we’re weakest.

Wharton although good passer is one of the worst midfielders off the ball in the league. Players just run off him easily, really lacks mobility and stamina. He’s not doing much defensive grunt work. Think those other players wouldn’t have shown any more than Bisoumma/Bentancur if they were in the same boat last year tbh. Our two, Bentancur in particular are good footballers who got thrown under the bus in a bit of a disorganised team.
