I think you need to chill on the presumptions a little and focus on what my argument is not what you want it to be. :)

As I keep saying Eze is a specialist as an inside 10 where he's allowed to roam for Crystal palace and come infield, now unless Frank is going to setup exactly the same way when he's never played that formation in his life then I'm struggling to see where he fits.

He's not an out and out winger and we already have two 10's at the club so where does he exactly fit? This is why I'm asking the question by the way, it's very easy to pine after a good player but no-one really wants to think about his exact fit in the team.

And above all else, if we spend £60m on him and have gaping holes at 6 and at RW where we are in more of a desperate need to fill those positions then what is the actual point?
he's going to play on the left or centrally and be given freedom to find where he fits on the pitch and with his teammates. he's a top shelf player and we're going to give him a big platform to express himself. he will be in the preferred starting 11 over everyone we have now. is that a clear enough response or are you just going to keep going with your little contrarian dance?

You make out as though we will play in a particular way, which I presume is based on the car crash of last season.

I think we need an improved midfield, and on that basis we need better options. Eze fits that category. How he is deployed and how we play under Frank is something we will find out in due course.

If you are saying let's fill the obvious weakness in the striker positions, as in another as well as Solanke, or that we need better fullback options first, then hmmmmm, but our engine is the midfield and last season it was average at best, partly because of poor tactics and secondly because it's not as good as we need.
Whilst I agree that the midfield needs bolstering, and Eze is definitely one to improve our creativity, I do think that our midfield is better than it's given credit for. In the correct setup and structure, I do think we'll see a marked improvement there.

There was an awful disconnect between our midfield and our defence this season gone, which I'd be absolutely shocked if we saw it again under TF.

I think Eze could do a job at RW too. I think he's far more flexible than is being suggested on here. I imagine he'll be our Son replacement with Tel playing as back up to him. But his versatility means he can play as the 10 ahead of Maddison some games and also on the RW if necessary.

I recognise your concerns about a CDM being our priority signing but I don't get this obsession with signing a RW. We have Brennan Johnson and Kulusevski who are both very different and both very decent in different ways and that is where both want to play. Odobert is very able back up there too. I just don't understand why people really want us to get this RW. Any big forward name is good for me and I like Eze. He can play accross 3 positions in my book. I imagine he'll be used mostly on the left to accommodate Maddison. Him cutting inside is ideal with Udogie overlapping!

I think we need a proper 6 though. I probably rate Bentancur higher than anyone on this forum but he's not a natural 6. He is better in an 8 role where he has a destroyer beside him. Now maybe Gray/Sarr can develope into that player but for now that is an aching gap. I don't think Bergval beside Bentancur is good enough. It should be one of them beside a proper CDM.

We needed Eze and Mbuemo.
We needed Simons and Semenyo.
one of Eze and Simons with one of the other 2 is what was/is vital especially if we are selling son.

The main position of both Eze and Simons is OCM, and their secondary position is LWF.
Spurs already have Maddison and Kulusevski in the OCM position and on the LWF there is Son, Yang, Odobert, Tel, Johnson, Richarlison, Moore, Solomon.

I rather see Spurs get 1 or even 2 left-footed WF, solid DM and a understudy LB.

Fair enough mate.i

I think our midfield lacks character and strength. If we don't change it or add to it, I would worry.

We will see who we target but for me it needs upgrading or we are going to struggle to finish in the top 8.

I'm a big Eze fan but the argument that the right side should take priority is a valid one. He also has a questionable Injury record but he's versatile and would definitely improve us.

He can cover Left side, AMC, and right side at a push so that versatility is valuable.

Signing a French international from Bayern of Munich is GENERALLY considered a marquee signing, so...

Generational talent

Eze plays better on the left side drifting in. ive watched enough of him to say that confidentially.

Your argument of us having too many left sided attackers is valid though.

And also look at it this way.

Woolwich's weakness is absolutely not their midfield. What position have they sought to bolster?

It's about that bar increasing in every part of the pitch.

I mean the response is clear but it doesn't make much sense or perhaps you haven't really thought about it.

So what you're saying is that he will be a luxury player?

Fuck the wants and needs of the team and just play him because he's good, that's it?

We need a 6 for the Champions League. It’s a position that plays a pivotal role in the spine of your team.

No disrespect to Norgaard who is a very solid PL veteran but we don’t need a quick fix to put sticky tape over the leak.
Yeah I get what you're saying he's an unspectacular solid DM, but the one thing I do like though is Frank said he's a old school leader and is willing to dish it out to the star boys and the new guys to set the standard.

Think we lack genuine leadership in this team

Have you ever seen Eze perform as a RW?

I don't think Johnson and/or Kulu is enough personally

You're probably right, and I don't disagree on the need for a 6. I'm just saying that our midfield isn't as "poor," for want of a better word, as seems to be generally believed.

Again, I'm not outright arguing against that, I definitely think it can be improved. I'm just not convinced yet that it won't be better with a better structure for it to work from.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that a better structure will suddenly turn our midfield into a unit that can match those challenging for the top spots, but I do think it will perform a lot better than it did under AP.

So do I mate, but not to the level we need.

I will be staggered if we don't see 1 or 2 midfield additions.

I like Hoddle's definition of a luxury player. A player who has the skillset to effect games is not a luxury. A player who can't is.

I'm paraphrasing here, but that's the essence of it.
