Transfers The Summer Transfer Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Meh you didn't, I just made it up because it sounded good. ;)

But you keep basing it off last season, it's pointless - if you base anything off last season then our entire team should be on the transfer list!

The silly thing about this debate is if Wharton played in our team last season his stock wouldn't be anywhere near higher than it is now and of Gray played for Palace our fans would most probably be saying the complete opposite 😆

It's just all prisoner of the moment stuff, one player is in form and on a trajectory, the other player is out of form and stagnating, meh. Until we give players like Gray a chance in a coherent team and system like Wharton has been given than spare me the desperation for other players especially those who we aren't realistically going to get.
What makes you think that Gray could play 6 for us this season?

I don't think we'll play a lone 6 role, I think Frank is more likely to setup a double pivot and I think him alongside another DM under Frank's guidance could work.

Wharton isn't even a lone 6 at Palace either by the way, not many players can play a lone 6 successfully, requires so many skills and maturity.

I think both can grow into that role eventually though.

There are a lot of midfield players that play into mid 30s but some here think a guy at 31 is not worth buying. You’ll get so much more out of a seasoned pro like Norgaard than we get out of our midfielders who are all younger with Bergvall being the exception. These guys between the ages of 29 and 33 are fit as fuck and know the game and their position so well. We need more experience that we can rely on to go with the younger players we have.
And if we were in Arsenals position where this guy would be expected to provide cover then it would make more sense - but we need a 6 who can come in and handle 2 games a week. This guy would be a huge risk for us due to his age. We’ve seen with Son how quickly the legs can go at this age - Casemiro is another one, great for a season and then it all just stopped for him, and he has won 5 CL

Thomas Muller - 35
De Bruyne - 33
Matteo Kovacic - 31
Mario Goetze - 33
Hakan Çalhanoğlu - 31

5 mids all over 30 who have played a substantial part in big teams seasons for 24/25

Here's a load more.
Goetze is the only one built like a small woman though and his injury record is appalling.

Like is said, Modric is an absolute freak

United are close to getting Mbuemo.

Where does that put them with Cunha and Mbuemo in the team. Would they have beaten us?

Who cares on both fronts with all due respect.

We need to try and seal some deals ourselves

United need a damn sight more than Mbuemo and Cunha, neither of whom Ferguson would have looked at all those years ago.

How the mighty have fallen and how quality has diminished.

Are Cunha and Mbeumo any better than an in form Rashford and Sancho? United have always had top players. The problem is they find a way to ruin them and then blame everyone but themselves. Amad has the potential to be better than Mbeumo but they'll destroy him by making him play wing back next season to accommodate their two shiny new toys.

United need a rebuild and to just accept they need to be poor for a few seasons. Build up with young players like Mainoo, Amad and Garnacho. Instead they'll probably fall out with them and replace all 3 with players on 300k a week! Already happening with Garnacho! Forever chasing short term fixes and kicking themselves in the face. They never plan more than 1 year ahead.

I think the issue in recent years is they have not had a good team overall so the few stars they do have are elevated beyond their ability by the fans and are expected to perform like Messi every week. They are also expected to lift a relatively average team to win every game.

Rashford, Fernandes and Pogba are good examples of this. They faced criticism every time United lost.

The Fergie teams were full of top players to carry the load.

They actually had underrated players under Fergie. Carrick, Fletcher, Evans, Park for example. All top players who played a vital part of their success but even the United fans didn't notice them.

United fans have always loved a celebrity. Di Maria Ibrahimovic, Pogba, Ronaldo, Casimero. They always took the piss out of McFred but they are the type of players they need and that Fergie always rated. With social media now the fans have such voice, that they are constantly demanding some luxury signing. While its actually players like Maguire and Mctominay who would step up when it mattered. Not the fancy names.

The fans demanded they sold Mctominay last Summer for Ugarte. That eejit goldbridge celebrated it. Same stupid cycle every year.

Everybody’s body is different and you can’t use Casimeiro as an example if you don’t use Modric as an example. Guys like sonny have a bigger drop off because pace is a massive part of his game but for sitting midfielders it’s completely different.
