Exclusive: Branthwaite close to new Everton deal

Latest from Sky Sports News' Lyall Thomas:

Everton are close to finalising a new contract with Jarrad Branthwaite.

There are still some final elements to b agreed but the England centre-back is expected to re-sign possibly as early as next week.

Branthwaite had serious interest from clubs in the Champions League but Everton have been adamant they will not sell him this summer.

He has been on the lists at Chelsea and Tottenham among others.

Sky Sports News reported earlier this month that discussions over a new deal had started, with manager David Moyes keen to tie him down despite still having up to three years left on his current deal.

The 23-year-old has been considering his future at the club after being left out Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad – but he is now focusing on next season with the club as they move into their new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock.

Branthwaite

Iv heard all his family are yids as they’re from Edmonton, his Dad proper Spurs.
Also heard Eze has an affection for the goons as he went through their youth set up 🤔
They may very well be I have no info on that....the reference to Crystal Palace is with regard to an arm of my own family who are all CP ST holders and my nephew (who was involved in some youth scheme) got the info by chatting to him.

He inherited a squad that had a mass of untapped potential/under-utilised ability.... That was then cemented by the no-brainer signings of Wanyama & Toby.

He was the right man at the right time.

There were signs that he was gonna repeat that feat at Chavski; but they sacked him.

PSG was the wrong club at the wrong time..... If he'd taken over now it'd likely been a diff. story.

Can he get a team over the line when it comes to the crunch though? Still don't know......
Good assessment. He definitely was turning things around with the chavs before they sacked him. He also deserves most the credit for Cole Palmer's quick rise.

But for now that is peak Poch. Developing a new team and giving young players the platform to step up and become stars. He hasn't shown us yet that he can adapt and get a team over the line.

That is all true. I didn't realise Eze still had an affection for the goons until yesterday. I thought with his Dad being a big Spurs fan that he'd want to play for us and prove Woolwich were wrong to give up on him.

Oh well I read that situation all wrong.... 🙈

The people did.....as did other forums such as VS etc forever denying his allegiance whilst at the same time making the point it didn't make any difference so long as he did the business, which is a valid one tbf.

Denying he was a Arse fan is not the same thing as claiming that he was a Spurs fan.

Gallas made me re-evaluate the 'gooner in a Spurs' shirt reality......

Also worth remembering that there was a whole generation of of French & African men that dreamed of playing for Wenger..... How wise is/was it to completely shut yourself off from entire swathes of the talent market?

I can do no more than accept the lad (Eze) is talented and want him to do well if he came to us but I'm not going to apologise for providing info that I know to be fact (i.e. coming from him) nor am I intending to cry crocodile tears if opts to join a club he's supported since a kid.

I thought you said CP fans told you.....?

He must be the most overrated player on the planet. Can't even make the England squad yet they value him at 70m+. Everton got on fine last year when he was injured and Jake O'Brien came in. He doesn't even stand out when I watch Everton play. In fact, I'd argue tarkowski looks the more important centre back whenever I watch them.

Maybe Everton fans might pull me up on this claim and say that I'm wrong but I doubt they would. Everton have had some top centre backs over the years. Jagielka and Distin come to mind. Don't recall either of them being valued at 50m+. Mind you Jagielka was criminally underrated and amazed he never got his big move. I always thought Jagielka was twice the player Lescott ever was but it was Lescott who got the big move. Maybe Branthwaite is the new Joleon Lescott!

Yeah my nephew....is that allowed?

PS: I think you are a tad confused.....the denial was made by our fans not the player in question. Most players keep (wisely) schtum about their allegiances but the Bent thing when it was rumoured did the unproven rounds for ages before he came out with it as a pundit.

This whole “is Eze a Yid or a Goon” thing:

Any player I’ve ever spoken to (and it’s not a huge number, so unsure it’s a standard thing) didn’t have any allegiance except to the side they are playing for.

All said they were too busy playing football when they were growing up to have any single allegiance towards a team. Would that not be representative of most footballers thoughts?

I get there’s maybe a family thing about supporting a particular side, but the player themselves? Not buying it.

Its probably easy say it from the outside but as a lifelong Spurs fan, I don't think I could ever let my son play for Woolwich!

Have to disagree on that. Mbeumo (who we won't get) and Eze would drastically improve our squad.

I didn’t name Eze.

Mbeumo, yes he would improve us but £70m is very expensive.

The point however is that our attacking players are pretty average, there’s no standout players and Son has declined. To be competitive in the EPL and Champions League we need better players. However, the fees being quoted for average to good attacking players are ridiculous. It looks like we need to be giving the EPL a wide berth and looking to recruit attacking talent from abroad. Higher risk in terms of suitability but we wouldn’t be substantially overpaying.

Tottenham 23/24 - First 19 games = 36 points
Chelsea 23/24 - First 19 games = 25 points
Tottenham 23/24 - 2nd 19 games = 30 points
Chelsea 23/24 - 2nd 19 games = 38 points

They were clearly getting better and were rapidly closing in on us towards the last 3rd of the season. Those are the hallmarks of a coach getting his plan and style imprinted on the his team.
He's a good coach. I'm not sure he's Klopp/Pep/Fergie level good, but he's good.

Yeah I'd agree. After missing out on Eze, I just think we have to look outside the PL. Semenyo is just not worth 70m, surely we can buy better players for half that price if we do our scouting right! We nearly had Doue last Summer and he's better than any winger in the league!
