Like I wrote, they're just the new Gladiator arena games.I take your point that the sole revenue generated by ticket and merchandise buying fans is a small percentage of monies generated, but fans being largely irrelevant, no!
The minute fans stop attending games to the level we see now, is the minute the game dies. No more tv rights, no more advertising rights, little media interest, just empty stadia and the end!
People are sheep, slaves to their passions, and the greatest passion out there is Football, on a global scale.
We're irrelevant in that the wealthy, who basically run the game, know how to control those passions, and the masses lap it all up.
Let me ask you this, in what World is it right that a human being, kicking around an inflated ball of leather, should be paid millions each year (even the most mediocre professionals are earning in excess of a million a year) when people who truly matter have to work for a decade to earn what these players earn in a month?
Yet, not only do we lap all this up, WE demand that their extortionate wages are INCREASED!!!
We are controlled to the point that we DEMAND these players being paid more!
We're irrelevant because they already control the masses. They provide a drug that is impossible to kick, and like true junkies, we demand more and more of it.
Football used to be the people's game. It used to be affordable. It used to have friendly rivalries, in stadiums where rival fans could mingle and still enjoy the game.
It's not that any more. It's a corporate entity where the be all and end all is money.
Burkinshaw said there used to be a Football Club over there about us. The truth of the matter is that there are no longer Football clubs, just corporate enterprises masquerading as Football clubs all across the World. But we're addicted to them so, even though we can recognise this truth, there's fuck all we'll ever do about it.
