Transfers The Summer Transfer Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

They'll probably sell two of them to the Saudis for 80mil a piece.

Probably. Still strange how they are buying players in positions they are stacked in and ignoring positions (like LB) they have no cover in.

Feels like a project for the americans to slowly execute some kind of weird transfer ponzi scheme, whilst some tool tries to put a functioning team out.

An issue the club may be facing and I agree to an extent is there’s very little value about at the moment unless you take advantage of a club in trouble. Semenyo, Mbeumo, Garnacho, Simons, Elanga - their clubs all seem to toeing the same line and valuing them all in the £60-70m bracket. It’s their right to set the fee but we’re now at the point where spending £70m will only get you an average to good player. We need improvements on what we’ve got, spending £300m on 4 good players both won’t drastically improve our squad and will put us in potential financial difficulties (by that I mean it will curb our future budgets and put us in strife if any of them flop).
Not necessarily so as city don’t often pay those sort of fees. May be higher wages.

The question is. If Eze really was a target (which I don't believe for a minute as its not the type of business we do, £70m on a 27 year old with presumably a large wage demand)

But putting that aside lets assume for a micro second that we were really in for him.
Why the fuck did we sit on this and not get the personal terms sewn up earlier, meaning that we've allowed another club to steal a march on us??

Why are we so fucking inept?
We spent 65M on Solanke and he was 27?

Where will you find someone with those measurements?

"They are preparing the list together with Thomas Frank. So at the moment, there could be plenty of names before they decide who is the player they want. For sure. One player they appreciate already, since last summer, is Eberechi Eze, who did fantastically this season at Crystal Palace. And so he remains one of the targets in the list at Spurs.
"But at the moment still not an active negotiation, because they are still assessing all the options and then deciding who is the player they want to sign." - Fabrizio Romano

The player! Singular not players. Sheesh thereby lays the problem. Big list, too much procrastination and no desire to get in more than one elite player. Let’s buy player X for 60-70 mil and fill the other gaps with kids/overpriced hacks like Ramsey

i think we can spend on transfers and not on wages because the fees can be spread out and paid over time. is that a correct assumption? the idea that we're cash poor sounds very plausible to me.

i'm not a finance person but i've always guessed that levy ran a very tight ship with the books. he doesn't seem to like to overspend or get in the red at all whereas our competitors may color outside the lines more or simply have more cash on hand. i'd guess during the stadium build we had financials requirements connected to the financing and we're prob still bound by that somewhat now.

not trying to give levy too much credit tho. i think enic should be committing way more to the football club just as the clubs above us seem to. otherwise you're just a real estate/live event company.
High wages by themselves are not as bad as some seem to make out.

Omishen on a free would cost 78m, 300k pw over 5yrs.

Solanke costs us around 88m, 90k pw and 65m transfer.

Spending 10m more on a lower level player because we won't pay high wages doesn't make sense.

There are some other factors to consider. Players on high wages are close to impossible to sell (part of the reason United can't get rid of their shite - and also why we had to pay off Ndombelly and Dele to leave).
