Yeah the best managers do both, Howe won a league cup and qualified for CL, Chelsea did similar and Villa made CL QF, FA cup SF and finished 6th.

What Villa did is what I’m wanting to see with Frank, battling for CL football via the league whilst making a good fist of things in the cups - we will likely fall short, we usually do, but the win this year means with the cup runs over the next couple of years that hope will be there that our names on the cup.

Goals and assists is a by product of how a team functions, we should be more concerned about that to start with. We need to look after the ball better, we need to transition through the pitch better. We need better ball retention in the final third. All things I think he is or will be very strong on.

Fair enough. When I watched us against Southampton it was Mateus Fernandes that stood out for me - he will be the best player in the Championship next year unless snapped up this summer and he is only 20

Winning football matches is what matters. The manner and frequency of any defeats can also become an issue.

If Ange had accumulated 55 - 65 league points, along with the Europa League win; he keeps his job.

22 league defeats, some in an abysmal manner, undermined Ange's credibility to the point where only a minority of people still believed in the project.

I'm not enthused with Thomas Frank but I do think what he achieves this season with Spurs will tell us how good / bad Ange was.

I fully expect Frank to get more out of what Spurs currently have available than Ange was able to.

Frank has been with us for three weeks.

Eze won't be coming, so prepare yourself for a longer period of misery.

That's a good point actually. I believe that Liverpool didn't buy anyone last Summer, then brought in Mamardashvilli and Chiesa in January?

Obviously, they had a more complete squad then, but they still kept their powder dry and allowed Slott to assess over the course of the season.

The standout difference is that now that they are moving in the market, they're shopping in the top tier. Being Prem Champions is obviously a huge help there though.

No manager has ever done both at Spurs.

Villa missed out on top 4 last year and got beat 3-0 to Crystal Palace in an FA cup semi final! Is that really what we are hoping to become?

He'll do better in the league and be more consistent but we'll win nothing because we won't be targetting any cups and we don't have the squad to win cups if we aren't going full strenght

Villa currently are just below the level Spurs were under Poch.

We did have Harry Kane though.

If Villa had him in their team at the moment, instead of Ollie Watkins, where would they be?

Lets see if Villa can go and win the Europa League next season if its so easy... They aren't anywhere near where we were at under Poch. Finished 1 point ahead of us 2 seasons ago and couldn't even finish in the top 5 last year and that team is nearly as good as us under Poch? Behave!

Couldn't win the Europa conference league. Lost 3-0 in an fa cup semi final last year when they were strong favourites. They've won nothing. Their biggest achievement under Emery so far is finishing 1 point above us to make top 4 when we also didn't have HARRY KANE. Stop gassing them up

On Eze - again after years of us talking about him, hes a very good player definitely but it doesn't look like we were really after him now does it? I always thought it would be hard to get him and Maddison / Son in the team over the last few seasons and he aint a left winger to replace Son so I'm not really bothered on him not coming to Spurs.

Signs aren't great so far in the window but you would hope they are assessing more off the radar.
I have no confidence in Levy doing anything in transfer policy he hasn't been doing though so expect one 50 million punt on low wages and two more u23 players on even lower wages.

We don't know that yet.

Under Poch we came close to winning a few cups.

We spaffed a few Semi finals and finals.

People often talk about the Champions League final but the one we lost to Jose's Man United, having been ahead, was a fatal blow.

That team lost belief in the big moments.

Sometimes it's just luck.

Why is this "notion" not just common knowledge? Its not even a debate.

Can you explain to me why Romero and VDV didn't start one League game together since Christmas but both played all the Europa League KO games? Does that not clearly indicate that we targetted the Europa League over the League? Is that not just fucking obvious

Eze is a perfect patsy for itk's to use as clickbait for the gullible masses, lost count of the number of times we've been linked despite Parish confirming Palace didn't receive one enquiry the whole of last season. BS about sacrificing the league for Europa agreed but it's perfectly reasonable to believe it became the priority circa March when it became evident we were safe from relegation and it looked the only path left open to win anything....anyhoo ' how we did it I don't know '.....'how we did it I don't care.'.... :mickyarm:
