You know what I feel like doing today?

I really fancy a day of defending Levy and ENIC on the internet. They might be billionaires who don’t know me and won’t thank me for it but I can’t stand seeing people complain about them.

They built such a nice stadium, it’s just not fair.

Mbuemo moving to and Semeyno staying at clubs with NO Champions League...

Potentially us missing out on Eze is nothing to do with us NOT being able to offer CL... Cos we CAN!

Clearly all this talk of being more attractive a proposition if you're offering CL football is a myth...

CL football is NOT the sticking point, is it?

Are you saying Kudud is a better player than Eze? Eze adds class and is exactly what we need (amongst others). 65M and his wages don’t seem excessive at all
I'm not saying Kudus is better than Eze.

I am saying his remuneration will be more acceptable to the miser, he is 24 so could still improve, and the sale of Richarlison, Son and / or Solomon would cover the 60 million Spam look like they will take.

Levy will love this deal and it gives Frank a genuine option and a player who could improve.

The deal for Eze will be big money because this will probably be his most lucrative contract of his career.

Levy is the issue, because he won't pay the wages that help us compete with the likes of Woolwich. I think the fact that the likes of Woolwich, Liverpool, Chelsea and United are all showing ambition while we do absolutely nothing is what's winding me up the most this window. We're doing nothing to close the gap between those sides.

Eze walks into our team. We should be in a position to trigger the release clause and offer wages that would convince him to join. Instead, we'll buy two average players for a similar total amount, on lower wages, then we'll be talking about how we can improve them in 12 months.
It's the same every window mate, the club dicks around over trying to haggle out of an extra couple of quid.
Nothing has changed, we don't have the serious edge to really compete.
It's frustrating but, most of us have set our expectations low, so low in fact that even in despair, there is a hint of optimism.

No it always has been and always will be the money you pay the player.

I REALLY was hoping for Eze....

Haven't felt this much hope for us to a player that wasn't ours since Ginola was at Newcastle... He just REEKS of Spurs!

Sadly, LEVY ALSO REEKS of Spurs!
It's just a different meaning, that's all!!

Fair enough. When I watched us against Southampton it was Mateus Fernandes that stood out for me - he will be the best player in the Championship next year unless snapped up this summer and he is only 20
Haven’t seen much of Fernandes, but one to watch over the next season. Dibling was quiet in the the game against us at home but the talent on the ball is there definitely. Any player you sign is not without risk but I’m pretty confident he’s going to be a very good player. We still need players to hit the ground running as well.

So then why the ball ache and worry about Qualifying for the CL each year?
Man Utd are offering CL wages, but not CL football...
what we'd have been offering without CL football doesn't even bear thinking about!

Surely there has to be SOME benefit for qualifying.... Only WE could make qualifying for CL seem like a negative!

I’m lower on Eze and higher on Kudus than most but the optical disappointment of seeing one go to Woolwich and one come here is undeniable.

Not really.

If he’s not finished top 5 and won a trophy after 2 seasons, he will have been objectively worse.

If it’s been 2 top 6 finishes, there is maybe a case that he’s building something solid that could be better but his first 2 seasons will have been worse.

Top 8 this season should and will have Frank in the hot seat. Especially if there is a good option available.
Top 8 is probably the target but given we finished 17th, top 10 would probably be fine depending on how we are trending performance wise.

Frank has a lot of work to do drilling these players into a proper system again after the chaos of last season.

I just think that all he has to do next season is not lose basically every league game and Frank is good at doing that. It will be refreshing seeing Spurs being hard to beat again.

Kudus is just as likely to be a complete flop as he is to find form and consistency. Not against it but we need three first teamers like Eze, Osihmen, Guehi or Locatelli as well

Why is this "notion" not just common knowledge? Its not even a debate.

Can you explain to me why Romero and VDV didn't start one League game together since Christmas but both played all the Europa League KO games? Does that not clearly indicate that we targetted the Europa League over the League? Is that not just fucking obvious
Ange did do that but it wasn't some masterplan of his. He was scrambling around to save his arse in January after realising he had been found out in the PL and would barely pick up another point.

His only hope was to save his best players to beat (mainly dross) in Europe, abandoning all his footballing principles in the process.

I don't think this is true. Trophy, yes.

But Ange's 2nd season was the worst league season in 90 years at the club. You're trying to use the first season as cover, when we stumbled to 5th - we had a flying start in the first 10 matches and then pretty much cratered.

Ange's last 18 months, EL run aside, were the longest sustained period of league form in the club's history. It is really hard to overstate how utterly shit we have been...because Tottenham has never really been so utterly shit for so long.

Winning a trophy and finishing in the top 4 is always the goal. Levy has demonstrated throughout his tenure that 5th is the minimal acceptable finish. There's really no reason to think that has changed.

I disagree.

They've bought and sold quite well recently.

If Spurs finish above Villa this season we will be heading in the right direction.
Not really they haven't.

Their wage to turnover ratio is at something like 90%, which means that they will need to offload quite a few of their highest earners, in the next couple of years, to meet with the PSR requirements of 70% or lower.

Knocking 20% off their wage bill is going to impact them pretty severely.

Their biggest earners are Martinez, Tielemans, Kamara and Onana, all on around £7.5M a year, with Watkins on marginally less. If they offload them to meet the wage/revenue criteria, they will still need to replace them, but with players on a much lower wage. In other words, young upcomers or inferior players.

It wouldn't surprise me if Villa drop like a stone over the next few seasons.
