Player Mathys Tel

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

we had this guy for 5 months and he showed nothing Yet we buy him for £35M, he played last night and again he showed nothing, he can't hold the ball against a defender, he cant go past a defender, what did they see to say pay £35M
Levy's been had again by these guys that tell him "this guy going to be big, we are giving him away toyou cheap" and Levy see's those future £ notes and he is hooked
I’m hoping it’s a sweetener so we can get Harry back in a cut price deal, season after next.
Otherwise I have to agree. Would take Odobert over Tel any day.

He wasn’t great when he came on, but I really hope he can improve as the season goes on under Frank’s coaching.

I feel like there’s similarities with his performance last night with Saka’s in the Euros Final a few years ago. Came on, didn’t do much and then missed a penalty and then had the racist abuse.

I always say it, but you can criticise someone without being personal. At least Tel had the balls to take a penalty

Tel was shite IMO, however, the personal and racial abuse he's getting is fucking scandalous.

He's 20, so hopefully he comes back stronger. Johnson got a lot of abuse at first, now he's a club legend.
Doesn't surprise me about the racial stuff.

Tel rightfully getting criticism because the signing was a bogus club signing but see how quick a Tel/Johnson thread is bumped on here and compare it to an Archie Gray thread where people move like they're Ray Charles/Stevie wonder and let the bullshit slide despite

-Tel and Gray being the same age
- Tel and Gray costing about the same

Unfortunately social media gives a soapbox to every dickhead worldwide. I mainly stay away from it other than Instagram following my kids travels.

I really hope Tel comes good (even if I’m struggling to see it).

It’s a shame he didn’t cost <£20m as I don’t think he’d attract the pelters then.

I think the biggest issue is the size of the transfer fee and how it could have been a huge contribution to an elite player. Take away the size of the fee and I don’t think he’d attract anywhere near the aggro.

Strange recruitment decision in my book.

It's one thing about ability and there's another about attitude. To me, he shows like he's some diva and deserves to play, but when he's on, he doesn't commit and play like team player. And that starts to irks me. I'm all for giving him time only if his behaviour warrants it.

I think that he had shockingly poor display yesterday. He did absolutely nothing right and did not work as hard as Kudus. Having Tel on yesterday was same (if not worse, considering fouls committed) than playing with 10 men.

But where do you take that attitude and diva etc issues? I do not see that part at all. Actually it seems to be other way around. In last season when shit hit the fan he was the one who did not run to the tunnel and tried to talk to fans. He comes across as someone with good attitude and willing to work hard. Just that it has not translated into anything good on the pitch so far.

I call bullshit out when I see it. You on the other hand prioritise protecting your opinion and not being wrong (on a football forum FFS). I couldn't care less if I'm wrong...I don't try a million different manoeuvres to get out of being wrong .

If you can't see that there is a stark difference to how Tel is getting dealt with by the fans then how Gray is then that's on you.

I deal with them the same. They've both been shit but go look at the Gray thread and count how many times his age is used as an excuse to defend him....then compare that to Tel where his age is barely mentioned (in comparison to the Gray thread). I wonder why when they both cost the same and both are the same age...weird that.

Yes absolutely mate, Gray should get shit because Tel is.

Bang on. Well done, full marks for logic

The thing that grates more with Tel is we loaned him, he was pony and we still chose to buy. Now we're haggling over Eze and Savinho.

Clearly the biggest reason why we lost it was lack of quality depth combined with injuries. If we've had Madders and Kulu and Solanke fully fit and available, it would have been different story. I enjoyed first 70-80 minutes. But then with subs we became much-much worse off. I mean, yea, already before subs we started to fall too deep and became bit too passive. So if we've had similar level subs coming from the bench, this could have still been reversed. We didn't, it wasn't.

So clearly it was not 100% Tel's fault. Not even close. But he was shockinly bad when he came on. I honestly do not recall a single right decision. Either it was not tracking back. Not closing down quickly enough. Or was it really-really stupid mistake that gave away free kick. It was ALL pathetic, sorry, it was. I think that as fans we should be able to say that - Tel performance yesterday was horrific and totally unacceptable. That does not mean that we should send him messages or comment on his social media or throw in racist or other personal abuse. But peformance we should be able to comment still.

P.S I was just thinking that in the light of offensive comments... I've commented/messaged exactly ONE player in my life. And it was Moussa Sissoko after CL final in 2019. After seeing us lose, we stayed in the pub and drank shots. And sang "Wake me up before you go go, who needs Bale when we got Sissoko" :D . Message I tried to send him was something along the lines "Aghh, that penalty thing really sucked. But cheer up big fella. It was a good run to the final and things happen!" :D .

I'm staggered that anyone thinks Gray has been anywhere close to the mediocrity of Tel.

Gray did way more for this club last season, undoubtedly. Mainly because he’s was there the whole season but also because he had to play out of position because of our amateur squad building.

Even last night, they both came on with 10mins to play. It was nothing to blame either of them for because our game plan ran out of legs and the best team in the world decided to wake up
