Player Rodrigo Bentancur

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He's not as good as freshman model Harry Winks.

Well, the young Harry Winks was super mobile and could tackle in a way that made him very valuable (sort of a pocket-sized white Pape Sarr really). But then he became a totally useless passenger, which is what people mistakenly see in Bentancur because they don't credit his constant interceptions and buildup generating passing.

I can only assume you haven’t played the game at a decent level
Sir, I was the Pippo Inzaghi of late 90's suburban Chicagoland children's recreational soccer.

I’ll always miss pre-ACL Bents, but tonight was a line in the sand for me personally. IMO he’s got to benchwarm from here on out ideally.

Yeah, but we are very short on options and we need to rotate. What can we do? Despite I'm completely dissapointed with him I think we'll see him a lot this season. And I don't even know if it was the ACL by now, he seemed do play better last season than now.

We’ll definitely see him a lot and like I said I don’t mind him as squad depth. If he’s coming on at 60, 70 mins on the clock to see things out I’m fine. But starting any meaningful game? No thanks, anymore for me.

Maybe its just me as others already are at his back - but we lost any control the moment he left pitch.

He will be always victim when offensive players do not produce enough - cause of his limitations going forward. When we are toothless, gaining control in the midfield that he provides is not that valuable.

Him or Pauline for games unless it’s away in Europe please.

Yeah, it seems a lot he vanishes when played with a proper CDM. It has to be him or Palhinha. Today I think we didn't need both, we were playing at home, with a very defensive back 4. Would be a lot better to play him, Berg and Xavi in midfiled and give another opportunity to Odobert or Tel on the wing. We didn't need two defensive minded midfielder against botton of the table.

But we made a lot of changes and that generally doesn't work well. I think it was more due to the mayhem Frank provoked than due to Bentancur being off.

It can be that because Johnson came on, it can be that Bentancur came off, whatever - i just stated the fact.

Also (not connected to the quote, just general thought) narrative about pre/after ACL Bentancur is wrong to me. He did exactly the same he does today. Only difference is that back then we had Kane/Son/Kulusevski who scored goals for fun. So no one complained about lack of Bentancur offensive play. Today, front 3/4 do not produce that easy, so lack of his input hurts us more.

He’s fine but he doesn’t raise the level of the team. Shouldn’t be played with Palhinha unless we plan to play on the counterattack.

Invisible in the final 3rd outside of set pieces.

Sarr or Gray for Bentancur isn’t going to make us a better team. It’s absolute hope, wishful thinking stuff. Grays miles off atm Sarr gives you more running power but his positional play and ball security, touch and turning on the ball is hit and miss particularly under pressure.

Don’t mind Bergvall coming in for one of Bentancur or Paulinha and then putting Xavi more central but thats really it at the moment. When Bentancur goes off we lose some control and composure. Think that looks pretty clear.

The front three is the biggest issue, there’s a lack of quality up front and left and chemistry is off between all of them.
