Transfers The Winter Transfer Thread - 25/26

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Before worrying about the attackers who have us sitting T-4th in goals scored despite scraping the bottom of the barrel, let's first focus on those who are doing a terrible job of getting the ball to them in dangerous areas to begin with.
  • A keeper who can do more on the ball than simply passing the buck to centre backs
  • A deep playmaker who is not absolutely horrible in other aspects of the game as to render this playmaking ability worthless
  • A DM who is better on the ball than Palhinha, which is hardly a big ask
These three would transform even Frank's currently hopeless football, let alone of a potential successor more proactive and less reactive in his approach.
I'm sorry, what attackers?

VdV and Palhinha have been the leading scorers most of the season. It's not like the forwards have been creating for them. Palhinha, for all this faults, has 4G/4A, 3rd behind Richarlison and VdV who are at 6.

The attackers have done fuck all to contribute to the T-4th in goal scored.

In terms of what’s do-able in January, ideally I’d go.

James Trafford in goal. He’s clearly been fucked over by City bringing him and promising him he’d be number 1, only to sign Donnarumma. He’ll be desperate to get out of there.

Antonee Robinson for LB, Sessegnon’s done well in Robinson’s absence, well enough that I think Fulham would sell. We need someone there that’s better than Udogie and would also give him a boot up the Arse to start performing more consistently.

Ederson at Atalanta for midfield. Two starting centre mids in January is a big ask, but Ederson’s definitely head and shoulders above what we have, and can do both roles you’ve outlined to a good level. Apparently available at a reasonable price, should be our first priority IMO.

No signings will fix the current mess. If we are keeping Frank then I'd rather see us make no signings and try to work out our best team with the current players we have. If senior players are underperforming then give the younger guys a chance. If we are serious about doing a rebuild then you have to do the dirty part and thats not throwing money at it. Its building from the ground up.

I was all for investing in the Summer and giving Frank the tools to compete for top 4 and go far in the cups. But he's a rabbit in the headlights and investing more into this current team will just make things worse. Its time we start from scratch and start working with what we have. We have some good players, we just need our manager to find out who they are and get the best out of them. If he can't achieve that by May then we sack him and can invest next summer under a new manager.

But these are dangerous times. Investing heavily in January while we are in a mess and don't know what our best team or formation is, would be incredibly daft. We'd be out of control and be digging a deeper and deeper hole for ourselves.

Alternatively, we can sack Frank now and get a new manager in before January and back him with some new signings. But I think the club will do the other option. For me the worst thing we can do now is keep frank and spend big in january. It'll just make the mess far bigger.

You're missing the point, the ill discipline is coming from the seniors and at the very moment in time we have no-one taking responsibility on the pitch, at least when we had those seniors they'd bear the brunt of the criticism and come on Dier went into the stands because his brother was being abused, these lot are having a go at fans despite winning 3 out of 20 home matches, hardly comparable.

How are the likes of Tel allowed to be the only player to front up to the fans when they were going mad, how is the likes of Bergvall leading the team talks on the pitch, where are our leaders? VDV being the captain against Chelsea dismissing the coach in public - I never saw Lloris or Kane doing that, ever.

Chelsea spent £2b building their team mate to get where they are now, what a ridiculous comparison, no-one has ever spent that kind of money in such a short space of time and no-one ever will and that includes us - when you tend to drop a lot of money you can speed up your process - they bought Sterling 3 years ago and now he can't get a kick yet they're still paying him £300k a week, delusional to think we could and should do that.

Boehly is currently on his FIFTH manager too.

Besides, the whole club is a scam.... Pointless comparing us to them.

Club is so transparent. Manager and owners getting pelters so straight to the Donna Cullen playbook.
Leak that we are ready to pay record fee and wages for a player the fans want (Semanyo) but make sure to throw in right from start that bigger clubs are after him so we're unlikely to get him but we will try as hard as we can so that when he goes to a proper club we can leak that we did everything possible but couldn't compete with bigger clubs.

Apart from VdV, I would not lose any sleep if any other members of our squad were sold, as you can criticise any one of them for ability, consistency, attitude, or a combination of the three.

It's about time our signings were of a higher calibre to begin with.

The sad part of that is VDV will be thinking maybe it’s time to move on. His stock is incredibly high and won’t want to be lingering around middle to bottom half of the league and I don’t blame him one bit.

Him and his old man are massive Liverpool fans. Don’t be surprised if he runs his contract down or pushes for a move if they show interest. Not that I want him to go.

But literally Sterling was a ready made “winner” that they just jettisoned in favour of youth. I’m not suggesting we spend as much as them, we don’t need to. We just need a clear plan and vision and to build a team that has a hunger and purpose. And you get that best from young players.

I get what you're saying and it's a long term strategy but this is the Winter transfer thread, we need to focus on what we need now and understand what our current team needs are. The young players we have in the squad now need to be supplemented with ready made players - for example in an ideal world you'd target a n established left winger and have Odobert being the backup, you'd target a progressive 6 or 8 and let Gray and Bergvall learn from them etc...

The media love to set us up for a fall. Hilarious reporting linking us with Semenyo knowing full well there isn't a hope he comes here. A life long Woolwich fan who will have his pick of clubs! But the media will keep on reporting us being linked with him...

I'd add Bergvall and Gray based on the fact that they're so young but already seem to have a higher IQ than most. Both will be terrific if given consistent minutes. And Sarr too because I feel like he's got far more to him than has been realised yet. The rest I'm fairly non-plussed by.
