Transfers The Winter Transfer Thread - 25/26

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It’s pure randomness that is cherry picked into an impressive stat. He barely scores in any starts outside of the PL, has 3 in 26 appearances off the bench, and before this 17 in 24 spell, had 1 goal in 11 PL starts.

There’s an argument to be made that he’s better in the PL than Europe but even that doesn’t explain why he’s yet to score in 6 domestic cup appearances for spurs. Randomness is more likely.

I'm not saying he is the answer but; injuries have played a part in him not being able to play lots of Premier League games.

He's had to play in most of the games this season because of Solanke's injury and Frank not picking Brennan.

His goals to games is respectable; probably his best sequence of consecutive appearances in a Spurs shirt has made a difference.

He's also been better when he has played with Muani in the team.

Whather you like him or not; he is our best chance of a goal at the moment and he is doing it.

Always tries too.

He’s ok, possibly good, if the team is full of creators.

My only point is that it’s a very cherry picked stat.

Goals/90 is a far better stat and clearly isn’t being used because his G/90 isn’t as impressive. Instead, we’ve removed every other competition except the PL, removed his sub appearances and removed his first 11 starts of last year to come up with a stat that makes him look like a far better goalscorer than he is.

What are you cooking for us Vivienne

Semenyo's recent form is pretty shit.

I guess for 65 million in todays market it's still a bit of a no brainer signing which is why Liverpool and City are all over it. I think he'll end up at Liverpool to replace Salah.

He is clearly a good player, very good when he is on form, and I'd take him here, but I wonder if we could do better.

I guess we will find out, because we won't be signing him.

Here's his recent form, for a top LW signing, is that good enough for what we need? I am not sure it is.

We’ll see what happens. It’s not like the Lewis family are new owners, they could’ve spent at any point in the last 25 years. I’m skeptical to say the least.

If however, they suddenly become spendthrifts and what Mokbel, who generally has decent sources, is true, then now being being willing to beat City and Liverpool on wages for players is what’s gonna propel us to being a club that properly fights for silverware.

I accept that we probably have started to spend more money on transfer fees over the past 3-4 years, however it’s mostly been gambles on players coming from lower Premier League clubs on fairly average wages, and low and behold, most of these players have turned out to be pretty average themselves. If we’re now willing to spend big on salaries, that’s what will allow us to get more of the sure fire hits in the transfer market.

I don’t know if Semenyo’s the one I’d be chucking the kitchen sink at if we are gonna be more ambitious, he’s very hot and cold, which screams out mid-table player who has the occasional purple patch. This Diomande kid at Leipzig, though young, looks like the real deal.

Yeah he is very streaky. Can get away with that at Bournemouth but not with us and definitely not at Liverpool. But Son was too. Not comparing the two of course but just illustrating all players go on runs.

Is he top level though, I’m not sure. Better than Savinho, who I was never keen on but something bothers me. I think it’s the fact that he doesn’t seem overly bothered about joining us. Him and kudus on either wing would be very exciting. Just getting a decent number 9 and our attack would be pretty frightening. I need to watch him again I think, haven’t seen him for a while for a full 90.

Yeah. I didn't want him in the summer as I thought he was a bit one dimensional. Then he started the season on fire and tore us a new one when they visited and I thought I'd got it wrong.

Now seeing his recent form I am not sure about him again.

I agree having him and Kudus either side would be very exciting, and I definitely wouldn't criticise the club for bringing him in, nor would I be disappointed, far from it, but I'm just not sure.

You are right, attacking players are streaky, Son was, but he was also such a world class finisher, Semenyo isn't that.

But then who are the alternatives? whoever we bring in, needs to be top level, a needle mover basically.

How much better is he than someone like kulusevski when on top form, would be my question. He's probably about his level.

But yeah, I don’t know about alternatives, but he doesn’t sound like he is busting a gut to come here, which I always like to take into consideration. All we need is another one of those players who is just sees us as the pinnacle of their career and comes and then coasts. We’ve had and got enough of those. I need to see that desire in players nowadays.

Yeah, it doesn’t sound like he wants to come here so I hope we move on and don’t waste time on it. Plus he’s a gooner. I know that doesn’t really matter but after the whole Eze thing I don’t want another player the scum fan base claim as their one, I’d rather we focus on bringing in someone who actually wants to be here.

I think his agents and him are probably using our interest to flush out City and Liverpool so whilst he might be saying to the club he’s open to the move to us behind the scenes, I think they are just playing us. And I hope we aren’t fooled or distracted.

But we do need to bring someone in, it’s really important to get that LW position upgraded.

His goals/90 is insane over the past 3 seasons in the PL, though

He's scored 21 goals in 2880 minutes. That's bettered only by Isak, Haaland and Thiago, and without taking any pens either. His 0.65 non-pen goals per 90 is almost Kane levels (I believe he was at around 0.7 without pens).

Ironically, the Premier League stats actually make Richarlison look better rather than worse, the closer you look. The raw numbers are elite.

He's not been brilliant in the cups, admittedly, but I don't think just looking at league minutes is cherry picking tbh. That's the main way we tend to judge players.

And I say this as someone who constantly finds Richarlison infuriating to watch.

Yeah I’m not really keen either but we also need to ask, how much of that time has he actually been 100% fit? We don’t know exactly but I’m assuming it isn’t much. Currently he actually looks like he’s playing without injury but I’m probably cursing him saying that.
