Blind, Rodriguez or Kolarov would be greatI'd lovvveee to get Kolarov at Spurs.
Read my mind, Levy and LvG.
Yeah were basically saying the same thing. Not a spurs starter , but could likely get the start at a lesser clubI reckon actually he's a first choice full back (not a backup) but he's just not good enough for spurs. I think we'd be lucky (or Man City) to have him as a backup really. Can see him playing first team for Sunderland, Stoke, Southampton etc (all the s'ess)
I still think a better more experienced coach would get more out of Danny Rose. I don't have any stats to back it up, but to me it seemed our defence (including Rose) as a whole was better under AVB, and they've all gone down hill a bit under Sherwood.
Verts and Vlad have both had long spells out (2 months +) under Sherwood which has not helped, so they have hardly been available to him. I'm not saying Rose couldn't improve to become a decent LB but at the moment he is way off being where he needs to be to allow us to consider him 'Top4' quality.
We have been unlucky defensively with injuries, no doubt, when compared to the other sides around us as continuity / familiarity is most vital for the CH partnership and above all and we have not been settled all year.
Definitely a starting LB for plenty of Prem clubsI reckon actually he's a first choice full back (not a backup) but he's just not good enough for spurs. Outside Judas and King, you would be hard pressed to find a defender we have massively improved during the prem era under any manager at this club. And even then I think Lilleshawl was the key to their development. Rose needs massive improvement. Not tweaking like Walker needed. So I can't see that happening if you go on history/trends.
Danny Rose is a karate kid crane kick. No can defend.
IMO before we even start to address what is wrong with individual defenders, we need to fix the basics. Get rid of high line, have a team that works as a unit and have a strong spine. We currently have a lot of non events off the ball that can be cut to ribbons by minnows on counters, let alone Liverpool and Citeh.
One thing I have noticed that has changed since the Harry era is how compact we seem not to be anymore. Are players are often spaced out, defence might play a high line but the midfield is often higher 20-30 yards in front, we are spread out to much. Teams that have high fitness attack and defend as a unit and the defence and midfield is normally only 10-15 yards apart not 30 yards apart. Its fine against Sunderland but its no mistery why we get raped by the likes of Liverpool, even West Ham looked very compact when they played Liverpool over the weekend. Not sure if this is done on purpose or if we are not fit enough anymore.
Definitely a starting LB for plenty of Prem clubs
But simply not good enough vs Top4 teams
For me , he just isn't a very good defender. And that should be the priority in that positionThe tactical issue is also relavant, on the right we have Lennon who despite a poor season offers good protection, our left side we nominally have Eriksen but he is given a free role to come inside so Rose is often left to his own devises. Problem is that he is an attacking full back who can be lazy in his defensive duties but why I means he often never tracks back leaving Verts exposed. Fryers is a better defensive left back IMO so would it not be a good idea to use him given our tactics.

Now I've seen the goals back i can't believe how much hate Danny Rose got. Eriksen clearly far more to blame.
Thought he was shite today, left us in the lurch more than once
But when exactly though? The first goal was one on one and he was exposed with space behind him for Vydra (i think) to run into, majority of the time the attacking player is going to get the better of it, thats why other players come across to cover. If its one on one, the defender is going to lose out more often because he's running backwards.Thought he was shite today, left us in the lurch more than once

Im not saying he did nothing wrong, and defended that attack perfectly, but he was exposed. He was certainly no more to blame than the ref who should have blown for the foul in the box (someone got taken the fuck out, can't remember who) Or Eriksen who did absolutely fuck all to help, Or the fact our whole team just let West Brom come at us straight away.
The second goal, can't really see what Danny Rose did wrong, his job was to stop whoever it was crossing the ball in, and he did exactly that. Eriksen yet again, was at fault, standing in an open space with a man 10-15 yards away completely open who then unsurprisingly gets the ball, crosses in and its a goal.
Just because the goals came from the left side doesn't necessarily mean its all Rose's fault. Anyone that can't see that doesn't know as much about football as they think they do. Teams are attacking us down the left because they know we're so exposed down that side because Eriksen can't defend for shit. Its happened repeatedly game after game, But Sherwood doesnt appear to be doing much about it. And Danny Rose is just being made a scapegoat.
Either Eriksen needs to work on his defensive positioning or he needs to be freed up and someone else cover the left side.
Tbh it seems a bit of a waste having him covering defensively anyway. Were he in the middle he'd be primed to launch a counter attack. For comparison, look at the right side. Lennon has been highly praised the last couple of seasons for his defensive work, his positioning tackling and speed are pretty decent (Id imagine its just something that comes with age and experience which Danny rose and Eriksen slightly lack) so he can get back, With Naughton/Walker usually in place to slow down an attack, Lennon can sprint back to help out, then we win the ball and go on a counter.
