Player Mathys Tel

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Good performance. He took his fullback on, beat him quite a few times and was able to put some good crosses in and got rewarded for it with a nice assist to Richarlison.

People focus too much on a wrong decision like shooting when he could've have passed it but he's getting himself in good areas and doing the hard part which is to create separation from the fullback. Also him going for the shot shows that his confidence was high which is good. We need players who want to take shots and score.
Also his movement and link-ups on his flank did draw out a defender and cause chaos in their defense.

Mathys had good game. Significantly more influential than Kolo Muani.

Such a weird player. His output feels almost completely random. Can see why managers tend to use him off the bench - he's almost always looked better coming on than he does when he starts.

One thing's undeniable, though: he's got a hell of a cross on him. The ball for Richy's goal on his left foot was wonderful and he also put in a fantastic ball from the other side that RKM could've scored from. Decent corners too.

He's like the opposite of Odobert. Supreme confidence and always seems to find a way of influencing games, but moment-by-moment he's really chaotic and often does dumb stuff. Meanwhile Odobert is silky on the ball but meek and always struggles to make a mark.
I don't rate him, i think his decision making is way off and looks like he doesn't understand how to play free flowing football at all, but you can't deny his crossing is very good, its something he's clearly put reps into.

I'm confused by him and can't tell if he's gonna turn into a world beater or end up at some mid-table Ligue 1 club in 5 years (neither would surprise me).

But having a cross like that in his locker (off both feet too) does give him a legit weapon that's really useful even if he's having an off-day otherwise.

It works if you try and look at him and pretend he's an academy product

People would say he needs a championship loan
I actually think people would be way more excited for him if he was an academy kid and they'd he pushing for him to get more minutes. He's certainly better than Champ level.

It's the pricetag and huge expectations that came with it that make people judge him more harshly imo.

There's definitely something there with Tel. Just no idea whether he'll be able to tame his talent. And if he can will it happen at Spurs?

I don't know - he's very similar to early Andros Townsend. Good dribbler, then punts it into row Z. every shot has a 1 in 10 chance of being decent

Weird thing is his shooting ability was meant to be one of his real strengths but aside from a few notable banging strikes, overall his shots have been really quite wild since he's come into the side.

He does have an unbreakable mentality which counts for a lot at the top level, though, so if he can actually take on coaching advice and improve, then he could become a top player.

He only turned 21 last week and wide forwards sometimes take a while to peak (where were Mbeumo, Semenyo etc when they were 21?) so I've still got hope for the kid, even if I'm far from convinced yet.

He had just turned 20 when he arrived at the club. He's now just turned 21. Players like him (and Gray) at their ages are not going to be the ones pulling the club up when its down. They're too young and inexperienced. He's nowhere near the finished article. If we persevere with him in the next couple of seasons he could be really good for us.

He is still so raw, he is a glorified academy player really.

Great goal but the rest of his decision making is dreadful. Not just the dumb penalty but on the ball he never seems to have a clear idea what he’s doing. He always hesitates.

He was our best attacking player tonight. Muani and richarlison were juat rubbish. At least Tel successfully took on players, played some good balls and scored a beauty.

The penalty was just a rash decision which he had no idea about. It wpnt have been given if it happened to our opponents.
