1882 movement...

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I want to make this very clear before I put my points across. I have not been involved in an 1882 meet/game. I am purely making my judgements on my assumptions. I may be completely wrong but as a fan who has a view from the outside I thought it might be useful to have a different opinion. I wanted to get to the Woolwich U21 game but couldn't.

I have been sitting in the South Upper for the best part of 20 years. I love going to WHL and I always enjoy chanting along. I am not someone who would start a chant but would happily join in.

Now for the my view (rightly or wrongly). I have a perception that most the people who are part of this are more interested in getting drunk and being loud for the sake of being drunk and loud. I don't believe being loud automatically makes you a great fan. My other concern is that many of these people may be complete morons. I went to Villa away and there was a group of young lads in the pub getting more and more drunk and ended up being more trouble than anything else. Don't get me wrong. The songs were great. The songs made me laugh the whole time I was there. I would say the pub would have been boring without it if I am honest. It was when beer starting to be thrown and some of the lads involved were kicked out. This is something I don't want to be apart of.

This was the game the flair was thrown. I was really pissed off when this happen. I was ashamed to associate myself with that behaviour. Everyone single fan is a representative of the club and I thought a few people let the club down.

Another point was when I went to lisbon for the Benfica game. Had a great few days away enjoy the sun and getting very close to going through. It was only one occasion where I felt the club was let down by fans. I was waiting for the loo when two lads didn't fancy waiting and went in the ladies loo and pissed in the sinks. To round it off they thought it would be great to sing a song about pissing in the ladies sink.

Now all this being said. I may be completely wrong about all of this. Like anything, I am sure there are a few bad eggs in the group. This is hard to write because I am not wanting to offend anyone by writing this.

Also I think some of the chants I have seen have been very 'un-spurs' and it doesn't interest me. It comes across as a bit 'try hard'. Shoes up is shit and has nothing to do with spurs. I know Flav agrees on this one according to the pod casts.

I would be interested to hear a response about this. Hopefully I am wrong about my assumptions. It would be interesting to hear the good and bad points from people who have attended 1882 games.

You've been going to football 20 years?

And you're upset about a flare & people using the ladies toilet? Come on now.

I was at that Villa pub and got chucked out (for singing & throwing beer, heaven forbid). That was nothing more than you see on any away day. Did you spend half of these twenty years with your eyes shut?

You should have come and joined in. You never know, you might even have enjoyed it.

The support you see at Wembley, Old Trafford and the Death Star is where it's heading for us (and all the big clubs in the premier league)

It will be exaggerated when we get the new stadium

Great atmosphere at the lane has become a thing of the past

It was piss poor at the weekend even with 1882 in attendance

There was a better atmosphere in the the Bell & Hare garden before the game

Safe standing and a huge reduction in ticket prices is the solution

Agree with most of that, especially the line in bold. The atmosphere in the Brickies garden was also very lively.

I wouldnt say the atmos was piss poor though really, i watched the game back on Sun & the singing could be heard pretty much throughout the game. Much better than a Prem game. If 1882 had not been there it would have been a morgue.

...and it won't stop there... until everyone in the ground is controlling the on-field action via their FIFAProCuntConsole, and they factor in 5x 2minute mini-breaks per half so every fucker in attendance can take a selfie with their half-and-half commemorative scarf, and tweet the rest of the world that they're ACTUALLY watching a LIVE football match (#LIKEME #FOLLOWME #pleasepleasePLEASE!)
then no one will rest easy!

All it takes is a moment to bring it back. Imagine against QPR the entire Shelf singing, that would get everyone else around the ground off their feet and we'd be back, we just need one huge 'OH WHEN THE SPURS' from the entire stand.

Nutter-Naylor Nutter-Naylor I'm glad you think I couldn't be more wrong. I don't want the 1882 to be a bad thing. If it adds to the experience then I am all for it.

You are right. The games I mentioned were not 1882 games but my point was more about the types of people I would associate with this kind of behaviour.

I feel I have come across like an old boring fan but its not the case. I enjoy drinking at the games as much as the next guy. I go to the Bill Nic and enjoy the songs etc.

My many point was that when you think of specialised groups of fans you think of violence and general anti social behaviour. I have a Palace mate who hates the Palace group because there all thugs. You just have to look at games in italy and south america to see what groups of fans can be like.

Yes, but we're a bunch of nerds from the internet.

All I am saying is that in my opinion I think flares etc puts us /fans/club in a bad light and strengthens the negative stereotypes football receives.

I did enjoy the villa singing in the pub. Party bags when Campbell dies etc. The longer it went on tho people just started to act like idiots. Each to there own I guess.

And yes. I am partially blind :soldadowatch:

You lost me a your username CheekyPint CheekyPint I didn't even make it to your wild sweeping generalisations.

I made it pretty clear that my words were based on only assumptions. I am trying to highlight some of the concerns some people may have. The original question was about the pros and cons. I am only stating a few concerns. I have not joined in with 1882 so I can not fully judge. I made that clear from the start.
