you're a fence sitter who loves to think he is always right. You have no 'opinion' other than to edge your bets and be Captain Hindsight. Next season when Poch wins 3 games in a row you'll no doubt pull a quote out from 10 months ago and say how you always had faith in him.
Lets look at things from an objective, long-term view.
Poch has hit his target. We were never going to challenge for 4th this year, not with a strike force of Soldado and Adebayor. Anyone who is disappointed with 5-7th simply doesn't understand our position, our squad and our financial limitations. This season was about remaining somewhat competitive whilst Poch got an idea of who he wanted in or out. How high can you finish when you only have 3 goal threats?
AVB got more points, with one of the best players in the world. Sherwood got more points, whilst unsettling the dressing room every time he held a press conference. I don't think comparing Poch to either bears much fruit; without Bale we would have been pathetic under AVB and the situation with Sherwood would have imploded after a few more months.
We now have 10 scouts and a head of recruitment; this area has been COMPLETELY redeveloped, because Poch wanted it to be. You think it's pure coincidence that we brought in the bloke from Southampton? We will see the fruits of this summer. There is a clear objective and structure, something we've lacked since Redknapp.
The coaching set up is much better and you can actually see players improving, rather than being bribed with statements like, "you're the next one to go to Real Madrid". Rose has improved beyond belief, Kane has improved, Bentaleb. The entire squad seems to have improved in some form or another, even Townsend.
The squad is much younger. This is going to hurt your team in the short term, players will make huge mistakes and will need to learn. But in the long term there is huge potential for improvement. Again, something to judge Poch on next year; for many players (Mason, Bentaleb, Kane, Lamela, Dier, Davies, Chadli etc) this is their first real season, without injuries.
The team is mentally stronger than before, we've won more points from losing positions than any other team. We've played the big teams and we've generally taken points off them or been unlucky not to win (Liverpool, United, City). This is in massive contrast to last year. We also look like a team, which hasn't always been the case.
Our season only started to turn sour when we lost undeservedly to Liverpool, got knocked out of Europe and lost a cup final within the space of 3 weeks. Morale and confidence took a knock and we've struggled to gain momentum since, while struggling with fatigue. Poch was put in an impossible situation; no manager could have come out of that fixture pile up without scars.
People seem to mention the bad and seem to forget that for 3 and a half month over the winter period our form was incredible. Out of 15 games we won 10 and drew 2. Take the good with the bad.
