I really like Carrasco :(

Me too. Daniel-san needs to get on a plane back to Madrid asap to hijack this deal, when Carrasco turns up to sign. This time he shouldn't bring his entourage of lawyers and what not. All that's needed is one pen, one contract at the ready, our four Belgians, unlimited supply of what Belgians drink when they go nuts and one address for the nastiest strip joint Madrid has to offer. :levylol::chadliblow::dembele::vertna:

"Learn the game" is a bold statement, in capital letters no less, right after stating something that is completely wrong! Poch wants people making interceptions, not tackles. Some of the players have been saying that most of defensive tactical work being done in training is not just basic pressing, but pressing in a way where you close passing lanes for opponents to maximize the chances of making interceptions. Further the work is focused on going from the old school thought that a good tackle gets the ball away from the opponent and say out for a throw. Of course this would be the case if the opponent is through on goal, but in midfield a good tackle is one that wins possession; you might even call it an interception.

In short, learn the game before telling people to learn the game :pochwtf:

I just don't understand why everyone wants CM players, sure a few extra in there now that we have moved a couple on would be great, but Mason and Benteleb have passion drive legs they both get stuck in both work there asses off and they can both play. Not there fault the 3 infront of them went missing so much last season and they had to totally miss them out on numerous occasions and go straight to Kane. We need more from Chadli Erikson and Lamella this year so these two can concentrate more on controlling the game and doing there defensive duties.
There both fairly young and both play like it means something to them i would take that over some CDM that wanders around intercepting the odd pass here and there and passing it sideways.
I do get what your saying however about pressing to cut passing lanes that all makes sense i just don't get why so many people want to dismantle a good partnership after 1 season. It excited me having 2 youngens in there the energy and urgency they showed at times needs to rub off on some of our more 'experienced' players.
They are defensively naive at times but they have a season under there belts and POCH will only make them better

It wasn't so much a swipe at Mason. Just your reasoning behind defending him. I actually like the lad more than most on here seem to. We had plenty of options at CM last season, but Poch clearly didn't want Capoue and Paulinho, and it would seem doesn't fancy Dembele and Benji too much either. So nomatter what you and I think about the Mason/Bentaleb partnership, we desperately need people in that Poch trusts.

I am a fan of Bielsa, but his teams have a tendency to struggle in the late stages of seasons, most likely due to high physical demands, both preseason and in matches. Mason looked like he was feeling it late in the season this time. If Poch doesn't want to put in Dembele or Benji enough to make sure Mason (and Bentaleb) doesn't get run into the ground, we need someone in (and two in, if he considers Alli not to be ready). For me, it's about that; not about replacing Mason. Though, it would obviously be a bonus if we do bring in someone clearly better than him.

I'll put my money on Llorente to Porto by the way. Just think the whole 30+ and £10m links are too out there for Levy. And Poch for that matter.

Ferguson used to say that after a successful season you need to bring in two or three players who improve you as a team. We had a moderately successful season, all things considered but there is no way that our central midfield can't be improved. Mason doesn't need to not play, he will play often but if we have aspirations of finishing in the top 4 we have to be better - and Mason's limitations, Bentaleb's relative lack of experience and having no other players capable means we have to get another central midfielder.

I agree with your main point that we need to improve. There's a few notable differences though.

Ferguson was for most of his time at United in charge of a team that pretty much any player in the world wanted to join. We have been sitting right outside the CL-level for a number of years; quite possibly the hardest gap to bridge in football, so the difficulty in bringing in those players is much bigger when looking to improve with players who are at the level across the gap, or who has the talent to get there.

Also, I don't think, Ferguson ever built a team around youthfull players as much as is the case with us now. Demands a bit more patience.

Oh, and Ferguson is a huge cunt. :pochohshit: Poch is not :pochsmirk:

Except when he built a team around Gary Neville, David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes...

I'm not refuting your point entirely, our pool of players who we can sign is significantly shallower but then, and again, I do like Mason, I think there are players out there who are an improvement on him. The gap between ourselves, Man Utd and Woolwich isn't insurmountable. It's not easy either but I reckon we can, with a tweek here or there, put in a concerted effort at competing on four fronts - we have to believe that, really.

I had a feeling the team with those guys would come up, but I couldn't be arsed to check. And I still can't, even if I still think the average age of that team was higher than ours last season.

In any case that's semantics, cause we agree in the main. No doubt, it isn't impossible to catch up. It's just hard as fuck picking out the right players, when all the obvious choices are saying they want CL. Which is why Mitchell is such a big deal. Jury's still out, but I believe, he of all people could turn out to be the best signing, we've made in forever! Along with the early signs that Levy has gotten smarter, in finally looking patient with a manager and backing his wishes, it's made more positive, than I've been in, well again forever.

Oh, and I really just wanted to take the chance to call Ferguson a cunt :pochlol:
