So why not have alternative targets. We've been left short in key areas , but yet again spent less in net terms than the likes of Bournmouth and Watford. Are you saying we can't afford to spend. Are we a fucking poor club on the brink. We have zero net spend for 13 successive transfer windows. Unprecedented. But its acceptable because maybe players we want exceed our valuation. ? Fuck off with your excuses fella.
We have a squad that has strengthened in the centreback, rightback and winger positions. People seem to be up in arms about the lack of cover for Kane. What cover was there last season? Adebayor and Soldado are as adequate as playing Clinton and Chadli up front everyday of the week. I'm sure most people would have rated last season as at the very least, a pass mark. People seriously thinking we'll finish 10th need to have their heads checked.
Were we left short in CDM last season? Bentaleb has one poor game and everyone rights him off. It's absurd.

People love to have a whine because top 4 seems out of reach and champions league is for some reason the be all and end all. How about watching the games and trying to enjoy them? We have young academy players that are performing well, something most other top teams do not. We have a core of young English players, something most other top teams do not. Show some love for the players we do have, that seem to love the club, instead of crying because we didn't get the hottest up and coming striker.

Am I the only one who thinks we have done alright this window? Got rid of most of the rubbish and improved the starting 11 considerably , shame about Saido but we went up to 25 million and that wasn't enough , I like Toby that's a massive improvement straight away Trippier is tried and tested and ready to hit the ground running should we need him Deli Alli looks a snip at 5 million a real prospect and Son and Njie offer us the pace and width we are crying out for. We won't miss any of the ones we let go and there are no deals out there that other clubs have done that I really envy.

I couldn't do both like and agree, but I would have if it was possible.

I basically agree, but Pedro wouldn't have hurt. I could have lived with getting him.

My two points (for what it is worth).

1. Have to say well done to WBA. The didnt want to sell a player and they dug their heels in and said NO four times because they knew Levy would try on the last few days of the window and they couldnt get anyone else in. Shame Levy didnt say NO when Modric, Berbatov and Bale sulked.

2. Feel sorry for Poch when we get a few injuries. IMHO I have no doubt we will finish outside the top 5. Maybe 6th or 7th. Levy will see that has going backwards and it will be bye bye Poch.

Therefore Poch and Levy clearly thought we needed these 2 players. Despite this he's "happy" with his squad. How can he be, 2 players he arguably wanted to start in the first 11 won't be here.

lol, what else is he supposed to say? Some people need to stop taking what is churned out by the club PR machine so literally. Especially since we know that Poch only has about three or four stock phrases when the club pull the string on his back:

"berry happy with our performance"
"i am optimistic because we have some real quality player I think"
"it is about competing much better and this is our focus now"
"enemy tanks approaching!"

Will be very interesting to see how the Berahino situation plays out now.

I can't see him actually going ahead and refusing to play for them again...

I also can't see us signing him now if we go back for him in January or next year, to be honest.

Look, I love this team and the way Poch develops it. But this wasn't the case of bringing a top striker, it was about buying/loaning a second option to Kane. A real striker and not another experiment. I would've even appreciated somebody like Jelavic.

Have we ever seen Chadli as striker? No. Is N'Jie a striker? Not aslong you play him in a 4-2-3-1 (at Lyon he had Lacazette by his side). Son by the way never was and never will be a striker, as I've seen people writing that. Soldado and Adebayor weren't great back-ups either, but they were in one way or another proper strikers.

What pisses me off so much though is that we didn't seem to have another option if we fail to sign Berahino. That's deadly. You need to make sure you have back-up if the big deal doesn't work out the way you wanted it. It's clear that we didn't have any as Levy put in 3 bids in one afternoon.

For me personally, it's not so much about Berahino, but about the back-up striker we really need right now. As we failed to get one, I expect Levy and Poch to sit down with Adebayor and integrate him back in the squad.

For what it's worth, I'd agree with all the positive posts about the window. It is bitterly disappointing that we didn't get Wanyama or Berahino. But we have strengthened the squad on last year. We finished 5th last year with a weaker squad. Without a DM we were willing to use. Without any back up for Kane that was worth 25p, let alone 25 Million. Now we have Son who adds goals and pace out wide and up front coming off Kane if we need it. Clinton N'Jie who adds pace, goals and assists if his last season is anything to go by. Real competition for Kyle Walker which will hopefully improve him, the same for Jan Vertonghen, and we got a great partner for our CB.

Alli has joined the team and looks fantastic, so I say it's time we all stop whining about who is and isn't a cunt for what reasons and get behind the club and hope we can really push on from last season.

Nothing to see here, close the thread.

So you/people wanted a striker that was actually a striker? Could write, positionally, this is a striker. One way or another Soldado and Adebayor, last season, were not proper strikers. Not for us. Have they been in the past? Of course. But they weren't last season.
I see no reason, why Chadli, who commonly is criticised for not doing much, apart from scoring, is not adequate cover in cup and europa league games. Absolutely agree that this is not an ideal scenario. But some of the comments, with people saying they feel 'abused'. That is some of the most ridiculous shit I've ever read.
Yes N'Jie played alongside Lacazette, but also played periods up front by himself, when Lacazette was not in the side. So between Kane, N'Jie and Chaldi up front, I think this is not disastrous. Would a backup striker strengthen the squad? Of course it would. But I'm confident that N'Jie/Chadli can be as good as the cover we had last season.

Yes we'd only have the FA cup in our cabinet, be playing Bayern Munich in the Champions League and already have more points than us playing badly as opposed to no win whilst apparently playing well and being just so so unlucky.

Unfortunately we'd be cunts instead of mugs and I'd still rather be Levy'd out of my £thousands than one of them.
Well this is a pointless post. They're not winning FA Cups and playing Bayern Munich in the Champions League because they've bought 0 outfield players. They are there because longevity breeds success. They have stuck with Wenger for 20 years, allowed him to do what he likes, moved into a new stadium which has brought them money like they hadn't seen before. Now imagine if we had that with Poch. Long term gain over short term success for me.

The key thing to remember here, as supporters, is that it isn't the players who are at fault, and as such our support home and away must reflect that.

This is, with the exception of the Saha/Nelsen window, perhaps the most frustrating transfer window. There has been investment but too much responsibility is rested on the shoulders of a few players. I just hope that if/when the players tire that the fans don't vent their frustrations at a group of what is essentially very young players.

History suggests I could be wishing for the impossible.

I've had a sleep since the window closed, so wanted to add my thoughts with a clearer head.

As a deadline day it was a non-event - but we had done a lot of our business already. Sure, every could see that the priorities were a DM and a Striker, but we have seemingly improved on our other options in every way.

Trippier is a viable alternative to Walker, based on his performances last season. He had a silly amount of crosses/assists last year, something we can all agree we/Kane would benefit from.
Alderweireld was pretty solid last year, and used to play regularly with Jan. If he can get that partnership back we could have a very solid pairing. Toby is an improvement on every single defender (bar Jan).
Son is a player who has seeming torn it up in a very competitive league, with a goal return of 1 in 3. That's not too shabby. If he can fit in the system, that is and hit the ground running.
I know nothing about N'Jie, but he is said to be a prospect, not a bad finisher and very quick.

Had we signed a striker - a striker that would be playing either second fiddle to Kane, or expected to cut in from the wing - everyone would be much happier; the complainers seem to be forgetting the above signings. Regardless of that, how much should we be spending on a second choice striker? Personally I think we should have taken a punt on Austin as a back-up but there must be a fundamental reason why teams are avoiding him like the plague.

We shipped out an awful lot of dead wood. Players that haven't been able to cut the mustard. We managed to not lose Lloris, Kane or Eriksen - so I'd say that a summer were we rid ourselves of shit, strengthened in many areas and kept our best players isn't too shabby. Should we have spent more money? Perhaps - but should we be wanking money for the sake of it? When completing a transfer there are three parties to appease, and I'm not so sure that the players that some of you are truly clamouring for are even available.

We have had a dire situation with strikers for years, yet we sometimes manage to find out feet. Whether that's luck, good fortune or otherwise, we have always been ok in the end. Someone in the squad has always stepped up. This is not the worst squad we have ever had in the premier league era, anyone that says it is clearly hasn't been watching spurs for very long.

Yes, we are in four competitions. One doesn't start until January and is what, five games maximum? One starts in September and is just six games until December. The other is another cup and is three games before Christmas, assuming we get past Woolwich. In the old days, teams played their strongest teams in competitions anyway, and I know that Champions League teams do, typically. The extra games required are not necessarily a big deal when you break it down. Plus we are apparently "super fit" these days.

Yes, it's frustrating when you see that we are close to pushing on and we have an owner that is reluctant to truly back the manager and invest in the team to take us to that next level, but on the other side of the coin we do not have the income to realistically compete financially with the oil rich with the wages required.

I for one think that the squad has improved against last season. And think we will be OK. Either way, I'm going to enjoy watching the team I support.

Not to depress some further into the dark reaches of thier overinflated football minds, the Scum bought FA and will finish top 4. We should improve on last season, its all to play for. We are not far off.

I can't see him actually going ahead and refusing to play for them again...

I also can't see us signing him now if we go back for him in January or next year, to be honest.
He doesn't have to refuse, just give 75 per cent in training ... it will be impossible to prove he is on strike, but in effect he would be.

Now the dust has settled on deadline day I think we should all calm down and realise what we have bought. The ONLY let down of the window was not getting another striker in, CDM, please guys Dier has obviously been moved there and Bentaleb is only going to get better.

If we had bought all of our players yesterday I am 100% certain there would be widespread joy in here but its because our business was done before the deadline that everyone is complaining. I've seen Liverpool fans livid that nothing was spent yesterday after they have spent £75mil.

Yes we all wanted Berahino, and Levy is probably to blame again for trying to undercut and not coughing up the money but guys we now have 4 months until Jan and we need to get behind the lads.

There's no point in complaining all season about missed opportunities, we need to put our faith in the guys on the pitch. One thing I do know, we got rid of all the deadwood for the first time ever (except Ade) and still made gains in each section of the pitch.

Son, Njie, Trippier, Wimmer & Alderweirald. added to Alli and that is 6 good players. Son and Alderweireld are ready for the 1st team, Trippier im sure would be more that competent to replace walker should he get injured. Guys we really are ok.

And echo's to what someone else mentioned beforehand, I would rather Kane, Njie, Chadli and Son be our striker options for the season than Kane, Soldado and Adebayor.
