Lamela was said to equate to 7m cash value in that deal (+ approx 100kpw wages saved).... Meaning we paid approx 27m quid (less EL's wages) for Gil..........
One could easily argue that Sessengon (28m + Onomah) & GLC (40m+) have been worse VFM...... Reguilon (38m) too.... All of which are dwindling down to virtually no re-sale value and have spent most of their time injured or on loan. Soldado was 28m in OLD pre-Neymar money.
.......And that's without allowing for inflation and looking at a bunch of our 90s/00s duds.

Fair point. That was a low value for Lamela IMO, and a very high value for Gil. We essentially lost a very good but often unavailable player, and bought someone who turned out to be very ineffective. I would put Lo Celso above Gil, value wise, though it's a fair point that Sess and Reggy are up there as rival "second worst ever deals" in recent years.
