Érik Lamela

If Mourinho can move Lamela along in this transfer window it will have to go down as his greatest managerial achievement.
Same problem West Ham have getting rid of Wheelchair nobody wants to pay a bang average permanent crock 100k a week , Pamela is underwhelming 9 games out of 10 even when fit unless it's against useless opposition. He has stolen a living for years and should do the decent thing and take a paycut to go and play somewhere more his level like Feyenoord.

Serie A is completely different to Premier League. Much slower. Less intense.
Lamela was not a grafter for Roma. He was a silky wide forward who had a good positional sense to score goals.
In his first and majority of his second season at Spurs, it was blatantly clear that his style of play was completely incompatible to the Premier League. Through a combination of Pochettino's persistence and brilliant coaching, coupled with Lamelas own incredible work rate and desire, he drastically altered his play style and physique to become a competent Premier League player, through nothing more than grafting and hard work.
Lamela is a very average player technically. Injury or not, this would not have changed. The theory that injury prevented him from become a superstar for us is romantic revisionism and wide of the mark
Football is football sure some players suit some leagues but the reality is Lamela would never have made it as a top player regardless of what league he was playing in because he's not good enough and we had our pants pulled down well and truly.

Quite possible, however I don’t think he would have had to work as hard or alter his play style quite so drastically if he was still in Italy.

Wheelchair! That's hilarious.

Irony Lamela bought to replace Bale and now looks like losing his position to Bale. I would not be rushing to let players go as this season is shorter cramming more matches into a shorter timescale and as well as the usual injury reasons, players will become unavailable because they have failed a virus test.

Tbf, the phrase "superstar" is yours not mine.....

The injury record speaks for itself.... Including his first season; during which he hid a serious back issue to his longer-term detriment.

"He was a silky wide forward who had a good positional sense to score goals." - These are kind/fair words.... In fitting with the idea that - if it weren't for his universally acknowledge, problematic injury record - then he would have been expected to improve further between the age of 21 and 28.... Why wouldn't he have? As you've already acknowledged he is coach-able and has a commendable work ethic.

If that player would have proven unsuited to the EPL then perhaps so, but for people to promote the idea that he was as good as he was gonna get at the age of 21 (and wouldn't/couldn't have imroved) is highly dubious.

It's funny that Bale's imminent return somehow spells the end for BOTH Lamela & Dele....
In my mind, if both Dele and Lamela stay, as well as Bale arriving, we will have unbelievable Central/attacking midfield options in our squad...

Imagine Lamela, Dele, Moura, Bergwein being our plan B?!!!!!

Add to that Lo Celso, Ndombele, Winks, Gedson in the middle... fucking hell... we're spoilt for choice!

and let's not downplay this: Son, Bale & Kane is one HELL of a front line!!

Sad sign today when Coco dribbled / rolled the ball from RW across to LW and then realised he'd forgotten to do anything with it, so had to turn back into the traffic rather than shoot. Bale may be a greedy trigger happy bastard, but at least he'd have tried to score.
Exactly! I don't know what happened to him since he left Roma, but there he was a much better player that did these things, he was so much objective and got a lot of goal. That's what he should be doing here, the english football give the player so much less time to think and dribble, either he adopted that kind of play here, hard to undestand.
