Ledley being a part of the coaching staff is one of the many positives of the season so far. Love seeing him smile on the sidelines. Its almost like hes playing for us again.

Has clearly helped out defensively too.

Long Live The King!
I had a nagging feeling that his appointment was a bit of a PR stunt, but you can see his influence on the defence especially.
Long Live The King!

Legendary player but does he come across as a coach or manger?
Hope I’m proved wrong but this whiffs of a bit of a PR stunt.
Even if it is, I genuinely don't care. Having someone like Ledley at the club is important, and having him in a first team role is fantastic. I am not a Mourinho fan but he is a coaching legend and Ledley getting an opportunity like this is great for him.

I'm not going to act like I know what makes a great coach or manager - you look at great managers throughout English football and its an eclectic mix. Even if it doesn't work out it's a great opportunity for Ledley and I hope he's cut out for it. If not, there's always a place for him at Spurs.

Time will tell...

Either way, if it works out, we've given him the perfect opportunity to cut his teeth... and if it doesn't work out, there's still all the corporate stuff!

Gary Mabbutt springs to mind here... never gonna be a coach/manager, but a truly lovely bloke who was loved and respected by his peers.... so Spurs employed him in a Corporate capacity, based on the feelgood factor he brought with him!

To be honest, in today's game, there are already so many 'experts' and scientific specialists in EVERY aspect of fitness, conditioning, diet, training, psychology, mental well-being...

Fuck it, why NOT have an ambassadorial 'coach' to help inject the 'feelgood factor' and a sense of History into the players...?
...I've heard of crazier ideas!!!

Making this guy a first team assistant was another dumb move from Jose.

A crowd pleasing move no doubt but just because you were a decent defender does not mean you can coach or deal with tactics.

I don't know who the blonde woman is, but she summed things up very well, albeit her nasal tone is quite annoying.

Can't seem to find out who she is and why she's talking about Spurs.
It's Melissa Reddy. She's actually an excellent football journalist (a senior football correspondent at the Independent, currently). She's South African, hence the accent.

As for why she's talking about Spurs, why not? She offered more than most male pundits on TV right now. Obviously I'm talking about the token appointments are former players who can just about string a sentence together, and barely offer any analysis of note. There's a lot of decent, up and coming journalists in football that offer a lot more these days, and she's just one of them.

And it's not a Sky show, it's PL & UCL Review TV, a YouTube channel.

He will be what the 3rd or 4th most important coach, with a very specific, defined role.

Not sure if he has a long term future in coaching but I don't think it is a stretch to have him come in and work with the defense, maybe even the CB's specifically.

I am imagine Jose and Sacremento are doing the heavy lifting anyways with Lalin (know nothing about him) having a lot of experience as well.

I doubt we were considering bringing Laurent Blanc or someone of that level so if our 4th coach is a specialist CB coach that offers experience as a club captain and England standout and is a bit of a PR boost as well, we likely will end up being just fine.

Fixed for you.

King Ledley is criminally underrated. He's up there with Nesta, Baresi, Beckenbauer and Passarella.

Never seen better before or since.

None of them did this...

Might just be the greatest tackle of all time. Outside of Michelangelo's David.

Just looked on YouTube and I think today, Robben is offside and VAR does King's job for him

Really getting agitated on the sidelines on Sunday
Great to see and another clearly buying into the genius that is Jose!

From Tanganga:

What impact has Ledley King had on you since joining the coaching team?

I think it is very important and it has helped a lot of the defensive players, whether it is in training or extras, asking him what you can improve on to the point of watching other games, and having his mind, someone who has been in the game for such a long time, you can use his intelligence, his mindset of what he knows and how to improve.

For us it has been very important because we have the tool to better ourselves and better ourselves defensively.

Also on Jose:

What's it like playing under Jose Mourinho and what impact he has had on your development?

It is amazing, I have learnt so much in the way of how much attention he pays to the game, not only on helping me defensively and certain aspects to improve on but also the tactical side, game awareness.

The amount of knowledge he has and the amount of knowledge he has given, not only me but to the team, to manage the game better, be tactically better, manage the game smarter.

King was a good player but that doesn't mean he is a top coach
you have to learn the role of a coach and see if you can teach players what to do
I don't see anything in Jose team that shows King was coaching the defence well
