He’s not the best midfielder for either Italy or Chelsea though

I don't think he's the best player in the world, but when you look at the top 3 list and the kudos that he's built over the last 12 months I don't see how the other 2 are more worthy.

Whatever, though it's bollocks..... All about sponsorships and media kick-backs.

Messi got Golden Boot in La Liga and won Copa America; so he did decently

It’s a joke that they canceled this last year, as if the gala no one watches is a bigger deal than the continuity of the award itself, especially since Lewandowski so richly deserved it and it would have broken up Messi/Ronaldo dominance.

Are they going to give it out before or after the World Cup next year?

Messi deserved it. He was still the best player in the World last season, dragging the worst Barca side in 20 years in a title race, and performing brilliantly well in Copa America apart from in the Final. Last year it was surely Lewandowski who deserved it, but this year, considering his injury in March as well, he shouldn't have won it compared to Messi.

Lewandowski outperformed him in pretty much every level except international.
How so?

Only level he outperformed him on was goals, and Messi's goal record wasn't bad either!

Messi was the best footballer in the world in 2021, and deservedly won it.

All this bollocks about rigged awards is nonsense. If any player in the world that wasn't a striker had the kind of year Messi had it wouldn't even be a contest. Messi is held to a higher standard, such is his outrageous perpetual brilliance.

Lewandowski's numbers of goals far exceeds Messi though. It's not even close over the last 12-18 months as far as goals scored.

If you want to argue, "oh but Lewandowski's played on a better team." Well are we going to use the same argument for Messi during Barca's golden years when they were winning every trophy because they were loaded up with talent?

He's got 42 total goals since the start of last year for club

Lewa's got 73...

Such a joke of an award.

The UK should just create their own version of the Ballon Dor. One that's not rigged.
Where did you get that number from (that Lewandowski scored 73 clubs goals in 2021)?
Thus said, the fact that he beat Gerd Müller's long-standing Bundesliga record - of 40 goals in a season - last season by scoring 41 speaks from itself.
Messi is still one of the world's best players though but this Balon d'Or lacked "something"

Oh that includes all goals for club since the start of last year. Includes what he’s done this season

Ballondor is just nonsense now. Messi should have been nowhere near this award for years but football journalists have a hardon for him. Jorginho would have been a better choice , even lewandowski.

Theres a reason why Barcelona have been nowhere near winning the Champions League and Messi's failures in big games played a big part. Couldnt win it in the last 6 years because their real best players Xavi and Inestia left. Then goes to PSG and looked like a farmers league player against City.
