Port Vale v Middlesbrough

The only tie not involving a glamour PL side

Unlucky !

Everton v Fulham
Chelsea v Newcastle
Liverpool v West Ham

maybe- but he gets an extra game potentially and then can also play a glamour side in the next round should they win.
Nice draw.

Winner of the Everton tie in the semis, worldie of a cup final day and he'll be another one that will win a trophy before we do!

Mid season update on Alfie Devine at Port Vale :

16 appearances (12 League, 3 EFL Cup, 1 FA Cup) including 10 starts, 6 off the bench totalling 914 mins. Only last 2 League 1 matches has he started and completed 90 mins.

3 goals and 2 assists.

This makes Devine Port Vale's 2nd= joint top scorer this season - top scorer has 5 goals (no assists).

Not bad, for effectively 10 full games.

Some questionable posters were “recall him/another poor loan” just weeks ago. Yet, they look to be handling him brilliantly (not exposing him to week after week 90’s, as his body hardens to men’s football).

Yup, I think we should be keeping him at L1 Port Vale for rest of the season, with the hope/expectation that now he's starting games on a regular basis and getting regular goal involvements (goals/assists) its a win win for the player and both clubs, rather than trying to move him up to Championship and a higher level of opposition in January where he might not get game time.

19 December could be a big game for him v Middlesbrough in EFL Cup quarter final (neither Vale nor Devine have played in one of those before) with a chance to play a Championship level team.

He'll be 20 next August so its then up to Ange whether he thinks another loan at a higher level would be better for him or joining first team squad as an extra No 10/RW option, and at his age another loan isn't the worst option.

A 2-1 away defeat to mid table Shrewsbury Town this afternoon sees Devine's Vale drop to 19th, 3 points above the relegation places pushing the goal difference down to -12

Alfie's 3 goals and 2 assists this term leaves him 3rd in the club's leading scorer chart
