Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I watched the game a few times now between yesterday and today.

It was upsetting to struggle so much against Coventry but I’m not as mad about Anges plan other than it’s obvious how weak we are in attack- I don’t think Werner and Johnson are good enough to be allowed free, un-coached roles on the outside.

Other than that we just generally lack enough talent to break down a packed box, and we aren’t appearing to receive plan B instruction on what to do about it.

Dragusin was great. Spence was great. Bergvall promising. Gray very solid. Solanke even looked good I thought. Our wingers and discombobulated CAM play let us down consistently. Johnson had the goal but really didn’t seem to do much before Maddison and Kulusevski got into the game- it’s clear he is at his best with creators around to provide him balls to run onto.

The Coventry wingers looked pretty good I thought- certainly much better than Werner and Johnson. If we had just bought them instead of shelling out for Werner’s wages I bet we’d be doing much better overall this season.

We’re going through a rough time guys. Keep the faith that we’ll at least start scoring more goals.

I think everyone needs to remember that there were 8 changes to lineup so it was always going to be disjointed.

I don’t believe in Ange going but I definitely think he needs to change some things. Don’t see why Udogie needs to invert and the transition needs to be faster.

Couple of things about Ange

He will not change how he plays
He does not coach a plan B
it appears to me he doen't coach players individualy improving their skills to fit the team *what iplayer improvement have we seen)

without midweek matches last season why didn't Ange have behind doors matches with League one teams playing the second 11, getting those players ready to play "his" style
there is no chance now to hone the second 11 players into a team, so wjy did he waste a whole match free season for these players

Easily the most amusing bullshit narrative now is that high pressing football is old news and the game has evolved past it 😂😂😂

High turnovers create counter attacks right on the opponent door step when they have no time to recover.
Convert our high turnovers into the type of chances they should be and things start to turn.

We're also tied with City for the most shots on target this season - issue is our conversion rate is 9% compared to their 16%.

It's pretty obvious where our issues lie and what needs to happen to rectify them.

He has changed over the years. Go back and watch his Brisbane Roar team. Same principles, front foot attacking football but fullbacks overlapped with great effect. They never inverted. Even this year he has changed by playing 2 8’a at times. He just needs to make some more adjustment and I think if he is given the time he will do so.

The pressing will stay but I wouldn’t be surprised if he stops inverting both full backs. Also if he misses top 6 but somehow keeps his job, he will get rid of 3 - 4 senior players who have not bought into his philosophy. He did this at Brisbane Roar and he did it with the Australian national team. He got rid of Craig Moore and Lucas Neill, 2 of Australia’s best ever centre backs. He is not afraid to cut big egos from the squad

So many of our shots on target are tame desperate low chance shots because we're out of ideas at times though, it's a stat which doesn't reflect what we're seeing. It's not like we're constantly peppering the opposition with shots and being unlucky. I wouldn't mind at all if that were the case.

I absolutely recall great saves being made by all the keepers we have played against.

I have a feeling that the all out attack system will work better when we can be more unpredictable. We need to be take far more shots from outside the area. Sure, they likely get blocked or saved or miss; but it reinforces the behaviour of defenders to rush in; rather than stand off and keep shape. We want to drag defenders out of positions and play the cute pass.

Similar tactic is to keep playing long balls behind the CBs ard get continuously caught offside on purpose. They will pat themselves on the back and keep stepping up to play for the offside. 1 fake from 1 attacker, and a perfectly timed runner; and we will be in.

As are the likes and agrees for posts that seek to defend and excuse Ange's recent/current glaring failings as a manger.

It's a forum.

When things are going bad the usual trend is to see two camps emerge for and against.

Nothing new.

The truth is that this fanbase has been so abused and battered by Baldcunt that many have surrendered and are willing to just have any sort of stability, even if it's rooted in failure/mediocrity.
I'd rather sack a manager every 18 months trying to push us up the league, than stick with one twat that will root us in the bottom half or worse.

It's also fair to notice that we have played Leicester and Everton who probably concede more shots than anyone except Man UTD. And some of the best saves made by keepers were ones a good keeper should make.

But our issues are clearly in the final third. They aren't permanent though. Confidence and rhythm are so underrated for attacking players and unfortunately don't come from a snap of the fingers. What we do have is a bunch of players who are focused and motivated so they will keep knocking on the door until it opens. It may have just opened already for Brennan this season and one goal for Solanke could pretty much put a boot through the lock.

I’m at that stage where I’ve stopped watching his press conferences and interviews. It’s happened subconsciously and when that happened with previous managers it was usually a sign they’d lost me. Not sure I watched a single one of Nuno’s for example!

So Ange inherited a 100m player he never got to play? We sold Kane before he kicked a fucking ball in earnest for Ange.

OK, so nobody cares about anything but points. Thanks, that makes mine. Calling Ange out of his depth when he finished with more points than Howe or Poch last year is stupid.

The rest is just straw man bullshit I didn't argue.
Howe and Poch were missing way more players for way longer last season.
Both spanked us.
Both were rapidily making up ground on us.
Our football is shit. It's as bad as Southgates England. Our results are shit and they're getting worse.
Every metric other than possession shows a decline. We are tumbling down the league at an alarming rate.

There's not that much point arguing with blind people about what's going on in front of them though.

Especially when him getting sacked within weeks is inevitable.
We should stop arguing about whether Ange gets sacked or not.
We should argue about who the next ex-Spurs manager will be.

Yeah, that is fair - though shots conceded, Everton are 12th I think - they have an XG against of 2 - United are 6th.

The problem now is even if Ange is ultimately some kind of football genius who just needs time, we literally have one or 2 decent attacking/creative players. Even prime Ferguson would struggle with that. Plus Ange is partly responsible for bringing in so many duds.

Risking the usual Woke Brigade crap, yes. I'm a first-gen Aussie who works with a lot of indigenous students and staff. I don't like what I'm seeing on the footy pitch either, but this sort of stuff really irks me.

Mugs game spending time on the Internet if I'm ticked off by dumb comments, to be fair :ange-facepalm:

Footy?

Reading this thread is giving me a headache. Our results are shit and have been for pretty much all of '24, defend Ange all you want but we MUST start seeing an improvement and soon or he will be sacked.

Our forwards would all look better and score more goals if they ever had the opportunity to play in space.
But we have a fetish for waiting for the opposition to get back in shape and pack the box before we try to score, so they don't.

Worth pointing out with Eddie Howe last season that they had CL for the first time in years with a squad lacking quality against our no European football. One of the reasons Brighton struggled as well. A smallish squad lacking quality, loads of injuries and European football dont mix well as i suspect we're about to find out.
