Always the fcuking quality of the squad blah blah blah, as though you or anyone else really knows what that means, other than looking at the top 4 at any given moment.

For example we could have been top 4 had we beaten the mighty Ipswich yesterday and then?

So in effect take City out of the equation and then look at the other teams and their players.. Yes, some obvious examples of better players than ours but not all.

AllI know is that Postecoglou had been with us for a season and a quarter now and I see very little that resembles adding appreciable value to the extent where there would be a massive risk to us if he were dismissed.

I am not calling for him to be sacked but neither would I care if he was .

Well - that's the problem there.
His youngish assistants are not up to par. NO wonder they are all floundering

But he doesntt manage well either. He brought up 1 sub after we equalised - then not until 82 min for 2 more.

The whole coaching set up sums up the club really. Hastily cobbled together on the cheap. I'd be very suspicious next time of any manager that is happy to come on his own without a set coaching team. All feels very amateurish.

We could have got Slot with his coaches but the release clause put us off, it was by the sounds of it £15m for him and his staff. Ange I think was our second target then De Zerbi I believe.

Thank you. You are the only other poster I have seen make the point the entire coaching setup makes me suspicious. We trumpeted the 'data lead' approach on recruitment, and yet the coaches were mates, freinds, and whatever was around already.

So basically in total chaos you are betting on consistent turnup for 3 times in a row in one competition.

Basically saying that we don't have consistency - to win competition you need to have consistency in this one cup- and conclude that we "could win it" ? Weird conclusion to come to, but I appreciate optimism in such situation :D
 
Even if Slot had come here it wouldnt have changed anything, hed still get bought sub-standard players and be at a club with a loser mentality. The standard story for us of something costing a little too much (8th richest club in the world, new stadium built so we could "compete" etc) and therefore the powers in charge of the club pass on it and go for a cheaper option they HOPE will come good (a' la Poch). They tried the "experienced manager approach" and fucked that up too

Its genuinely depressing

We are absolutely handicapped by naive tactics from Ange that just makes everything harder for the players.

I'm not Romero's biggest fan but allowing him to go roaming whenever he wants and playing a high line where he doesn't even have the capability to get himself into the correct body position for the inevitable sprint with the opposition forward is handicapping us.

Playing a single pivot where Bissouma is asked to protect the same suicidal high line and inverted full backs by himself handicapped us.

Relying on VDV to win every sprint duel he's up against causing the inevitable injury is handicapping us.

Buying a 65m striker and playing a system where the striker has minimal assistance from the wide players in regards to creating chances is handicapping us. "Run around a lot mate and go looking for the ball" results in his second injury of the season when he's barely ever suffered from Injuries.

Buying a centre back who doesn't even suit the style of play you're trying to implement and then allowing the starting cb to make SIX direct errors leading to goals and not being able to take him out the firing line because you have zero faith in the CB you signed to cover is handicapping us.
 
What a hopeless club we are. Starting with the manager - it is the arrogance to never change the system, the lack of attention to detail particuraly on both attacking and defending set pieces, the novices we have on the coaching staff, the refusal to adapt to the opposition, the appalling in game management and the shockingly poor recruitment.
We have a handful of decent players but no great ones. We have this great ability to spend £30 - £60m on players who are simply not good enough. Any decent due diligence would have told us the Johnson, Richarlison, Porro, Madison etc are too lightweight and that Dragusin does not suit our system.
With European football this season our recruitment was negligent at best. The club seemed more focused on reducing the wage bill than on creating a team that could challenge for honours. I could go on and on. The club is a shambles.
It doesn't matter who the next manager is or who we sign in January or the summer. Nothing will change.

I said from the start, or at least some point last season that the fact he's happy to come in and work with coaches like Mason and other "club coaches" shows the state of our set up.

We aren't a serious sports team / club. It's all completely amateurish. But it's made worse with Ange here.

I don't understand how a professional manager can come in without his own backroom specialists. Shouldn't he have coaches who are specialised and experienced in implementing his style of football and philosophy? I just don't understand it.

There's been one constant during this whole mess and gradually more and more fans are realising until there's changes at the top , things will continue limping along
 
Sooo... we are 11 games into the season.

Porro and Udogie have started both 11 games.
Between themselves they have 1 goal and 2 assists. So 3 goal contributions combined for 22 appearances for players that push extremely high and are supposed to help us on attacking side.

That is definition of total garbage.
Our wings are overcrowded and there are acers of space to be found behind the lines.

People keep sayin "oh, but what would improve when there would be another manager in charge?!?".
I can tell you my view-

First of all, new manager could keep the current pressing tactics, but stop with this absurdity with fullbakcs that is not producing anything. But their normal positioning would help in defensive side. It would be an upgrade that can be done as quick as flip of switch.

Another thing - solidify midfield. Play 2 deeper CMs that can take room away from opposition players so that they could not run straight to our box. Right now we are absolutely overcowded in some areas and leave others totally abandoned.

So talking of current crop of players, that is how I'd like us to line up -

Porro-Romero-VDV-Udogie
-----Sarr---Bentancur---
Kulusevski-Madders-Son
-----------Solanke---------

yeye, I know, Kulu on the RW is not fully optimal, I know that, but this would be a next step in improvement - to get in a READY-NOW-RW in January window. And one fullback as well.

So in 3 steps we'd play totally different football that would increase our chances in a cup from current 0,01% to maybe like... 5% :D ?
Cause right now... I cannot stress this enough - our current system allowed even COLCHESTER to score against us. And also 3 sides from bottom 6 of EPL in Leicester, Crystal Palace and Ipswich. 3 games out of which we racked up massive 1 point.

18th Oct our last exchange... Sort of proves it isn't ALL bad really, otherwise you'd have posted that a lot sooner, right?

It is incredibly inconsistent though.

We are not the only inconsistent team, while we do keep having these shit results / performances, we are still just 3 points from 3rd, and we are also capable of the sort of performances like Spam, City and Villa.
If we didn't even have those, I would be more impatient.
Until all hope is removed and we are playing shit every game, I want to believe in this manager, as difficult as he makes it sometimes 🤦🏻

Also under Levy there is no hope for any manager. Might as well let Ange's reign run its course and maybe against all odds he actually does win something. He is our manager for now, we should try to enjoy it.... there is ZERO guarantee that the next one will be better... it can always get worse. Once that new bounce euphoria wears off, they are all just a few losses away from being turned on anyway.
