Iraola is just the latest flavour of the month. Yeah he's doing well at Bournemouth. But that's Bournemouth and this is Spurs. Do you honestly think Iraola will get rid of Spursy? Do you think he can motivate this lot to play for 90 minutes every week not just when they fancy it, where the previous managers including proven managers like Conte failed?

This is the about the bigger picture.

To be clear I want Ange gone, but the problems aren't going away when he leaves. Even if we get Guardiola.

I disagree. He isn't flavour of the month, he's been doing a really good job at Bournemouth for a couple of years now and was highly rated in Spain. Do I need to remind you we took Poch from Southampton and look how that turned out. There is nothing wrong with taking managers from smaller clubs.

In fact we don't have much choice because no manager will come from an elite club to Spurs. Talk of Alonso is delusional.

There is nothing we can do about getting rid of Levy so the best we can do is appoint a manager who knows what he is doing. Poch managed it for a while so it is possible, even at Spurs under Levy.

Iraola would just be the shiny new toy, the same shit would happen, we’d sign mediocre players and he’d hit a ceiling

It’s happened with young managers, old managers, defensive managers, attacking managers

There’s one constant and we won’t be successful until that is removed

Sacking Ange just starts the whole process all over again, it’s boring
Agreed.

Fundamentally the players aren't good enough for the levels the fans expect.

We are a basket case club. We have defenders who can't defend to save their lives but look silky going forwards. We have a keeper who can't handle crosses or any kind of physical pressure. We have played who swagger about and look good but don't want to roll their sleeves up and fight for it.

If you recruit winners and pay them top wages you get winners. If you recruit chancers you get chancers.

It's not rocket science. We will even turn the young lads Spursy because there is no culture of winning and no repercussions for performances like yesterday.

But who appointed Son Romero and Maddison as the leaders? Ange. Son was a terrible choice as captain, he has no charisma or leadership qualities. Nice guy but he's no Keane is he. That's not even considering the fact he's way past it and shouldn't even be a guaranteed starter.

Then Ange appoints Romero as vice captain who clearly wants out, and has rewarded us with the most diabolical season from a CB we've seen for years.

He also then appoints Maddison who is the definition of a fair weather powderpuff player. Can't make a tackle to save his life.

It is all on Ange. His choices have been naïve and horrendous. His tenure has been an epic failure in every way imaginable in my mind.
Yeah I can't disagree there. The leadership group is non existent. I'm not sure is this a club decision though, where Levy and Ange have accepted that this is a young group with no leaders so these pathetic defeats are seen as lessons learned. Its no secret Ange wanted Conor Gallagher in the Summer who probably would offer that "Captain" profile we are missing but the club were happy to just bring in young players instead. Its very frustrating but maybe this is a long term project and these are just painful bumps in the road.

And how is keeping Ange the answer when he is leading us to midtable mediocrity? I don't understand the view of some of you that the idea of changing the manager is some how blasphemy. He's shit, he's doing a crap job, he needs to me moved on. Keeping a crap manager has never been the answer.

Yes, but at least we would have someone sensible and competent in charge as opposed to crocodile Dundee from a league equivalent to league 2.

Ange is a fucking fraud, he has to go sooner rather than later. Inconsistency is a trait of a mid-table team and he’s definitely not a PL caliber of a manager, let alone a top 4 one. Our only saving grace this season was our form at home and now that is gone as well. What part of the process is losing to all the bottom sides?

If we recruit Iraola I guarantee you we will be having this exact same conversation in 18 months about the next upcoming manager. This isn't about me having an issue with recruiting managers from smaller clubs. This is about the squad not being able to meet the fans expectation.

The squad that was assembled for Poch was absolute light years ahead of what we have now. Kane, Son, Dembele, Lloris, Dele, Vertonghen, Alderweirald, Eriksen.

It's not even close. Getting rid of Ange might shore us up at the back, but whoever comes in is going to have to deal with the fact that our keeper is poor when pressured and our full backs can't defend for shit. He's going to have to deal with the attitude of the players who turn up collectivley when they fancy it and wilt like spinach in a curry against anybody who wants it.

I've seen it all before too many times.

I don’t think he’s crap, and I don’t want him sacked

I’m just saying to all the ange outers, it’ll be the same shit different day with a new manager. Might aswell stick this one out and see if he can somehow stumble on a cup

If we got Iraola in we’d be having this same conversation in 18 months, I’m bored of it all

Yeah it will be more of the same, probably. Its hire and fire at Spurs for some time now.

But results-wise Ange is way worse than his predecessors.

It would be more of the same mate imo
I get Levy is the main issue at this club and will be until he finally fucks off but Redknapp and Poch have proved you can still produce good, competitive sides even with the limitations. They lasted 3.5 and 5.5 years. Its possible that incompetent in charge stumbles on something, it will be more luck than judgement but its possible. Its clear Ange isnt the answer so roll the dice.

Fantastic write up! Everything you said there is bang on. Nice to read some sense on here for a change.

100%agree on the mentality around our defending. We always look to be trying to rush tackles in order to get a counter going. There is no respect for defending or keeping a clean sheet. Even yesterday for the first goal, Dragusin came charging out to the sideline to win a ball he was second favourite for, this meant Romero had to come to the front post to clear the header which left all the space in behind for Szmodics. This is a carbon copy of a goal we conceded against Brighton, where Romero did the exact same thing and we ended up a centre back short then when the cross came in. We seem so desperate to turn the ball over that our back 4 is rarely in shape when we are defending! In an ideal world, both centre backs should be in the box every time a cross comes in!

Like yourself, I'm Ange in as I think the overall performances are there and I can still see some method to the madness. But he needs to address these defensive issues. We are conceding the same cheap goals every game. Very frustrating.
Spot on mate.

Some of the best defenders don’t actually do a lot, they instead form a great shape and structure that makes conceding less likely.

As you say, we are far too desperate to turn the ball over. I honestly think if we can change that we’ll see drastic improvement in results.

And this is exactly the truth. We will always be a team that hovers around the European places but will never challenge because we won’t go and sign top players. Its even worse now because we are signing players that will be very good in 3 years which means we suffer the same fate until they step up but what happens there is the older ones leave and get replaced by younger ones that need three years to get to their top level. Vicious fucking circle.

As you say those 2 managers were more luck than judgement

Redknapp had bale, modric, van der vaart, king, even fringe players like Kranjcar who are genuinely better than anyone we have now

Poch had Kane, dele, dembele, jan, Toby, rose, walker, the list is pretty endless actually

We got lucky that some of our punts turned out good

No one from the current squad gets into any of their teams in my opinion

We won't though. We look like we don't practice defending.
