Yeah its an absolute clusterfuck.

But the only comparable injury crisis in recent memory that I can remember was Newcastle for a couple of months last year I think? And they, like us, were fucked. Got their players back and came home strong.

I'm not suggesting you or anyone should think this gives Postecoglou a pass mind you - just pointing out that massive injuries particularly in one area (defence) will ruin any team's season.
Did Brighton have a few players missing? Sane with wolves on Sunday plus they lost 2/3 more during the game.

I don't hate Ange for being fat or for wearing overly large coats- I hate his tactics, poor man management, bad game management, lack of preparation at set pieces, porous defense, poor management of squad health, lack of sane squad rotation, apparent difficulties at evaluating players, hostile and foolish press conferences, and pompous prognostications.

Today I learned that key CM Phillip Billing hasn't been available for Bournemouth all season until today. And Iraola STILL has them overperforming in 6th.

A lot of other managers are doing much better than Ange at managing the health, rotation and tactics of their squads. It's not a credible excuse to simply excuse the poor points haul as down to bad luck with injuries.
Yes 100%. Some go one as if we are the only club with injuries. I’m sure when we have played some teams this season they have had players out. That’s whether we lost or won. Even in the cup v cov they made loads of changes and we still struggled.

I'm more Welsh than Tom Jones wearing a daffodil hat singing Delilah to a stadium full of brown shoe and blue jeans wearing rugby fans in the millennium stadium, butty boy.

Interesting post , I’d love nothing more than for Ange to prove me wrong and be as successful as Klopp was, the thing is Klopp needed a new defender and got VVD , Enic would never back a manager like this.

Yes it's interesting and unfortunate we'll probably never know if Ange could've worked out. We went into the season terribly underprepared.

At the very minimum, the club should've bought another LCB or LB during the summer window. They decided that 31 year old Ben Davies could cover both.

We were also trying to flog off Spence the entire summer but couldn't find a bidder. Instead of finding backup for Porro, the club decided that 18 year old CM we just bought played at lot of RB in the Championship last season. That should be fine.

Club was crying out for RW cover or even a different option than Johnson. Club decided to go for 19 year old LW Wilson Odobert. Wingers are wingers right? We'll just move him to the RW where he looked completely lost.

Imagine a club that actually buys players to put in their natural position. What a fucking concept.

He needed a striker and they signed the most expensive player of the summer despite having posted the largest annual financial loss in club history the season before.

The difference between Klopp and Ange is:

Klopp made over 300 appearances for Mainz 05, Ange played in Australia.

Klopp managed for 14 years at Mainz and Dortmund, winning the Bundesliga twice (including a double) and getting to a CL final. Ange managed in Australia, Japan, and then the 1 team in a 1 team Scottish league.

Klopp had serious chops (and chompers) when he was appointed, and so when it wasn't working at first there was reason to believe it was Liverpool and not Klopp.

Ange is doing worse than any Spurs manager in the past 15 years. He's accomplished nothing of note previously. There's little reason to believe it's not largely his own fault we're not at least 6th.

Lots of chatter about how, in our position, we should be focussing on the cups instead of the league now, and this led me to do a little bit of statistical digging around the numbers going back to 2014 (11 seasons). Here’s some data for you….

  • Of the 39 trophies won in that period (11 each in the league, FA cup and League cup, and 6 European trophies), only 7 have been won by sides that finished outside the top 4 in that season
  • That equates to just under 18%
  • Of those 7, only 3 finished below 6th in the league
  • They were Leicester FA Cup in 2021, Woolwich FA Cup in 2020 and West Ham Conference League in 2023 which English clubs should dominate in truth
  • This all means that only 7.5% of trophies are won by teams that finish outside the top 6

Before every season there’s always this debate about “what would you prefer, top 4 or a trophy” and the reality is the 2 are linked. As per the data, if you’re in the camp of “who cares about the league we’re doing ok in the cups” you’re ignoring a pretty heavy statistical link between league position and likelihood of winning anything.

You know who wins trophies? It’s not teams that prioritise those cups, it’s really good sides. That’s what we need to be….

It is deniable. Neither you or me know whose decision that was.

Prior to this Postecoglou has been very careful with player welfare. He subbed Romero off against Brentford for concssion concerns in his 1st ever game. He's taken a lot of time to bring players back carefully. Maybe this all changed with the pressure he was under

Or maybe it was just terrible luck.

We don't actually know. If the players didn't think they were ready they would have leaked it (or their agents would)
Think for concussion they would have had to follow protocol anyway.

True very true. At the EOD the best teams normally win the trophies. You may get upsets now and then like we use to see in the FA cup but not so much now. The best teams normally get to latter stages. So if you concentrate on the cups and draw say prime city like we did last yr in 4th round or dippers your cup run is likely to be cut short.
