Remind me, what did Pochettino win? I'm actually not going to get into this with you... you're happy with mediocrity because it's better than what Ange is serving up, but I'm not... Also when I "misuse a quote" which by they way I got it perfectly right for the context I was aiming for i.e none of those three are good enough in my opinion... at least have the fucking decency to know who was responsible for the quote.

No trophies for Poch but what he did win for 2-3 years was respect from the PL and no one wanted to play against us!

Statistically we were the best team in the PL during this time but, of course, no trophies to show for it!

Haha absolutely not. It's not hard to see the Europe League success if we actually win it, in isolation.

For me and I think many fans, the bread and butter is the league. The annoying thing about this season is we've been so so poor, that it will take the gloss off winning a european trophy.

A club like us should be combining a top 4 challenge with winning the Europa, not a relegation battle.

You can win a cup with 3 or 4 good games a season, but the league is every week and you need to deliver.

Which is why the Poch years were so enjoyable, even if we finished empty handed. We looked forward to seeing a quality side beating the opposition almost every week, home and away. That is priceless. Seeing opposition fans jealous of how good we were.

It was great.

Football is weird, in that you can win a trophy and still be a shit side, although it doesn't happen often. What is more important, top 4 finish or a cup win? IMO you have to have both. A cup win whilst finishing 17th is frankly pathetic. It should be top 4/6 and a cup win.

We are where we are though, so all that is left for this season is to win the Europa League and then move on from this dreadful season.

But next season, our bread and butter is the league and we must be much much improved. We can't be losing as many as we have this season, end of.

This season we've never really been in danger of relegation as bad as we've benn.

And yes ideally would be top 4 and making semi's of the ECL regularly but in the real world when was the last time we won anything and finished top 4?

IF..and IMO its a big IF...we win the Europa, in the years to come this will just be seen as the dreadfully weird season when we were the shittest we've been and yet won a trophy and qualified for the Champions League. And I, like many will gladly take it

Yes Pocchetino's team was great watching, but history is full of teams like that who won nothing.

I'm not an Ange defender, but if Spurs somehow win the Europa League, would you say this season was better than any season under Poch?

I would argue that reaching the Champions League final is one of the greatest achievements in the clubs history since it is the pinnacle of world football.

From a club perspective, qualifying for the champions league AND winning Europa League would make it a very successful season; and arguably better than Woolwich finishing 2nd with zero trophy.

From a fan perspective, we have had a raw deal. Poor performances week on week and total abandonment of dedication to league fixtures - which is an insult to all those fans who have paid for season tickets.

My view, is the club and board needs to be honest with the fans and offer a SIGNIFICANT discount to season ticket renewals next season. They need to acknowledge that the club was unprepared for the season ahead and, binned off the league.

We were never mediocre under Pochettino other than in his first season. Now we celebrate 5th which is what Poch achieved first season!! Whilst getting to a final.

We were an extremely good team, one of the best outside the traditional elite in Europe. We claimed some huge scalps, got to a European cup final, had an incredible league season which we frankly only lost because Conte had a Chelsea side with no european distractions, numerous other impressive seasons...

Of course winning matters (a lot!) but you can be not mediocre and not win things. Under Poch we could compete with any side in the world over two legs, even a really good Juve side we were inches from beating in this type of scenario & we played them off the fucking park.

We were missing that little bit extra something to win things - but the team was very fucking good.

Coming second or making a CL final is far superior to Europa, FA Cup or League Cup. Not even close.
Is it??? There's such disparity between fans on here. So finishing 2nd for the next 20 years would be better than winning say 12 domestic trophies in that time?
Because all the banners, all the shouting is about winning trophies.

Objectively, finishing 4th is way better than finishing 6th and winning a domestic cup. Purely based on prize money alone. But the balance has to be struck between finances and success.

It still amazes me that with our team all those years , we still never even won a single thing.

Lloris
Walker/Trippier
Vertongehen
Alderweirald
Rose
Eriksen
Demble
Sissoko
Ali
Son
Kane

With those players at your disposal, it's pretty lame that we didn't win a single thing.

I really think if he'd have made an effort in either of the domestic cups or Europa, we could have won something

But something tells me that he was getting orders to get top four above everything else.

If I had the time or the desire I could probably find thousands of posts on here saying trophies are more important than anything else. But I don’t and I can’t be bothered.

“Football is about winning trophies not finishing Top 4” is the line.

So yeah based on that this is our most successful season this century.
And we will lose 20+ league games.

Funny old game football.

'Most successful' does not mean 'better'

If anything this has proven to me that I would rather be awesome for most of the season than win a cup and be shite, same with the ramos season which is the only other trophy I’ve seen us win. I was very young at the time so maybe that was it but I remember winning the trophy well, doesn’t hold a candle to some of the Poch seasons for me though.

If football is only about winning trophies to you then yeah it’s better. Like I say the posts are all there.

That’s what people are in it for.

Not the journey, the destination.

Football isn't about winning trophies though, otherwise 99% of professional clubs fail every season, I don't even know where this notion of winning trophies or bust came from, it seems to be a very modern day take.

What was a better season for Tottenham 2007/8 or 2016/17?

And the one before Ramos' league cup win was George Graham winning the league cup in 1999 when we were not just shite but also incredibly boring, comceded more goal than we scored and both lost and drew more games than we won. And the one before that (1991 FA Cup) we only won 1 out of 15 league games after January. And the one before that we finished mid-table the year we won the UEFA cup in 1984.

Poch's side was incredible. We were the best team in the country for 18 months and somehow won nothing. Best defence. Best attack. Best midfield. Travesty. Also spoiled some of the younger fans who are under 30 years old.

It comes from wankers like Carragher and Neville who peddle it at every opportunity to get the best players from the clubs outside of the cartel to join their clubs.

Before Poch most people did not think half those players were that special half their development was due to his coaching team development. Kane had 22 goals at pro level when Poch joined.

Poch even turned Ricky Lambert into a player Liverpool wanted at Southampton. His coaching meant Liverpool signed 4 Southampton players. Morgan Schneiderlin signed for Utd. He may not have won anything but he could develop players.

We haven’t won f all yet and we are likely to play Bilbao in Bilbao in the final if we get there.
