I've counted 7 unacceptable matches before then.
CP
BHA
LFC

January?
The thing is that if that was a credible strategy, then I'd take it too. I'm just not sure it is. Can a team consistently win cups (say one every two seasons on average), but be middling in their league? I guess Sevilla might be an example? Tho that was very specific to the EL.
I say "I'd take it" because we have almost zero chance of the PL under Levy anyway
And more to the point, it's not reasonable to believe Ange will deliver upper mid-table PL. He might, but more likely bottom quarter / relegation dogfight
hmmm you might be on to something here. Had we lost the EL final he would have been sacked by now, 100%. Because hes won and the golder ENIC CL Egg has been delivered, they might give him some time... that time being until Poch is ready to return - we know Levy has kept in touch with him, hes made no secret about wanting to come back, just all comes down to money again I reckon with his USMNT contract... presumably if they go out of the WC early theres a severance clause. But even then we are talking almost an entire season either with Ange or under caretaker ownership until after the WC and surely that just far too riskySurely its an elite coach with a proven track record now. Otherwise give ange a chance to start a new season.
Poch will be available after world cup in theory as well
Thomas Frank is odds on favourite to replace Ange, now I know that doesn't mean much but if we Sack Ange now and bring in Thomas Frank I will be underwhelmed, if he is the level of candidate we are looking at then I would much rather just give Ange the first 8 games to see what he can do.
I keep seeing this said, but what does giving Ange the first 8 games prove that we haven’t seen over the last two seasons?!Thomas Frank is odds on favourite to replace Ange, now I know that doesn't mean much but if we Sack Ange now and bring in Thomas Frank I will be underwhelmed, if he is the level of candidate we are looking at then I would much rather just give Ange the first 8 games to see what he can do.
This is a good post. I agree with most of it. Not so sure about giving the big man the first 6 games though. It's like hoping for the best outcome while fully expecting the worst outcome, which jeopardises everything in your first paragraph. What are the serious targets for next year? I think the league is out of the question unless Levy decides he has £250 Million to spend this window however we should be looking to secure CL again and winning a domestic cup. I'd take top 5 and the FA cup all day long and for a club as big as Spurs we should absolutely be getting to the KO stages of the CL.
With some of the names floating about I think its best Ange gets the first 6 games of next season, if we aren't on at least 12 Points after 6 games then its thanks for winning the cup and we will never forget that night in Bilbao but we move on without you.
I just hope we are working behind the scenes to get someone lined up in case it all goes tits up.

If there isn’t a big name available I’d be quite happy with Frank to bring some stability.Thomas Frank was my pick to replace Ange.
I’d advise anyone who’s unsure about him to watch some videos about him and his coaching philosophy on YouTube (there’s lots of them)

There’s no doubt in my mind he’s a more capable tactician than Ange.
Non tournament summer, so rested players? Strong pre season? Continue the feel good factor? Players seem to be behind him? No obvious massive upgrade available? Would potential signings be attracted by his style?I keep seeing this said, but what does giving Ange the first 8 games prove that we haven’t seen over the last two seasons?!
Surely we already have a big enough sample to understand if Ange is the right person to take us forward or not?!
Because in that season (a) we sacked off the cups for that (e.g. Carabao) (b) the league trajectory has been dramatically downhill from there. It's been almost relentlessly downhill for 16 or so months tbh.Why would tha be not reasonable when he's already finished fifth in his first season?
Thomas Frank has never managed a team whilst in Europe
He's never managed a team in the Champions League
He's never managed a team with high expectation from the board and the fans such as Tottenham
He's never managed at a club which chops and changes strategy and direction like the wind.
I personally like Frank but going from Ange (post EL win) to Frank just screams of complete mediocrity and a backwards move, go big or go home - you either back Ange properly or you get a manager who is a level up and a clear upgrade, Frank doesn't represent that at all.
IF we can recruit genuinely good players then it isn't the worst plan in the world. Ange with the EL in the bag, CL football, and the generally good vibe around the club is obviously a far more appealing prospect than previously for any potential recruitsWhat are the serious targets for next year? Having to replace him 10 games into the season seems far more risky to me than replacing him in the summer, giving the new manager the pre-season and new recruits.Non tournament summer, so rested players? Strong pre season? Continue the feel good factor? Players seem to be behind him? No obvious massive upgrade available? Would potential signings be attracted by his style?
I don’t think he should continue (I’m presently 51% out), but I can certainly see reasons to keep him.
Glasner or Xavi?Yeah. To follow on from what I’ve said about Frank, I would have only taken him if we didn’t win the Europa or get Champions League next year.
But because we are in the Champions League, we either keep Ange for the short term, or bring someone in who’s a step above. Problem for me, is that I don’t know who that is
