Is than an objective fact? I read during the week that we've a 70%+ win ratio when that back 4 are all on the pitch together. We conceded 2 goals in our last 5 Europa League KO games with that back 4 starting. It's an objective fact that this back 4 has conceded 126 league goals in 2 seasons, there's absolutely no chance this is a generational defence. I think of the lot, VDV is the best, and I agree with you that he has the potential to be world class, however big question marks over his fitness, and he is not without his faults, very susceptible in the air considering his height, and he is still somewhat naive in his positioning, so definitely gaps to fill. Porro is nothing like good enough defensively or athletic enough to make up for it to ever be in the world class bracket at RB, I very much doubt anyone at CL level is looking at him seriously considering what they'd need to part with. Udogie is very young and I want to see him in a proper defensive system before making serious judgement. Romero, yes, great on his day, so many fucking individual errors though, and been a sicknote for his 3 seasons here, the best ability is availability and that's something both our CBs have not been for large stretches of the last 2 seasons.
I think most of those 126 goals conceded came when the likes of Davies, Dragusin, Gray, Dier and Emerson were starting in our back 4.
Availablility is a huge problem and we need more able back up. Danso looks good back up. I still think we need to improve on Spence and Dragusin. But that back 4 when on the pitch together is very very good. Player for player it is one of the best back 4s in the league and certainly one of the best I've ever seen at Spurs.
