Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

The bloke lost to leicester and ipswich at home ffs. Im sorry he has to go.
That was long before any binning of the league and don’t kid your selves it was. He came out with that BS just a few weeks ago. Before that it was bco we went derp
Into caraboa and we’re still in europa. Before that it was injuries and wait till they are all back. Think he said that Feb time can’t recall exactly when.

We have hired and fired many managers, but the outcome has always been the same - very little in terms of glory, and they get sacked. Now we have some glory, so we still do the sacking?

If that's the case, then what does the next manager have to do to make it to 3 years? Play attractive football and get into the Champon

On that basis, Ange did damn well to win us a trophy, working for Levy. Many have tried and failed, but he worked out what it would take i.e. sacrifice league placings. I would have taken it if you offered it to me at the start of the season i.e. a miserable league outing (but was only -1 goal difference, which is weird), but a cup and CL football next season.

We have to push on now, for real (not like under Poch). I think we all know that we need new players, and ones with experience, not kids for the future.

I thought Levy might have sacked Ange today if he was going to, then I remembers it's a bank holiday, so if he is going to sack him, then surely that's tomorrow?
Thing is he said he was happy with the squad and could handle 4 comps. He rotated for all the Europa group games so had plenty of fresh players. Ok injuries did get in the way for a part but lots of teams don’t rotate much. Dippers, goons etc in pl and CL don’t change team much. Both have maintained a high standard.

He sacked Jol mid-game:bmj:

What is it that Mason and Wells would not have been able to do that Ange did to win the games he did in the EL?
Tbh all Ange did was just out everyone behind the ball. We had no creativity bar the FBs. We had a forward line who have no skill or ability to beat a player. That starting forward line cost almost £200M let that sink in. Disgraceful and people are saying we need to improve that part of the team. Same thing was said last year and we spend nearly £100M on Solanke oddjob and Yang. His tactics were just simple as close your eyes and hope for the best.

a) we played with the same lack of shape and headless pressing until he blocked up a little from the Frankfurt tie.

b) "ineffable nous"? Vague fluff.

c) He literally just gave us a bit more stability by blocking up more and not being kamakazee. Tier 1 basic bitch shit that he otherwise refused to employ which he might well have been pursuaded to finally capitulate to by Wells and Mason themselves.

What specifically is it that Mason did, tactically, in his short spells at the helm for us, that makes him less of a competent tactician that Ange.

Or does it all just come down to vibes?
All Ange did was a Nuno but without the quality counter attacking forwards.

I don't think any big talents will come here whilst AP is here. Or Levy for that matter. We must be Brighton like and hunt down great young talent...I don't see any game changers or big names wanting to come here atm...
I can remember when players were champing at the bit to join Spurs or one of the other big clubs...
Yep. How I long for the days that you’d open your newspaper in the morning to discover you’d signed Waddle, Gazza, Klinsman, Ginola etc and that that was the first you knew about it

Glasner, who finished 11th in the 18 team Bundesliga, just 9 points from the drop, because he dedicated all the club's resources to a victorious Europa League campaign.

Frank, who in four PL seasons at Brentford without European football (nor any particularly deep domestic cup run) to draw away energies has never accumulated within 6 points or 4 league places as what Ange did with a similarly open slate in his first season here.

I keep getting reverse-polarized toward Ange by the weakness of the arguments of the people who think he's just a total fraud.
This is true but look at the resources Frank works with? Ange has probably spent more in two years than Brentford in their history.

Let's not forget what Ange has had to deal with.

1. No Kane, for the first time at Spurs in 10 years
2. Whole back 5 out injured for several weeks, and CBs for months, twice.
3. Two transfer windows of only Solanke and Danso with any real experience - the rest were kids that he had to play because of injuries.
4. A cup final without Kulu, Maddison and Bergval.
5. Playing Timo Werner, because of injuries
6. Not inheriting a squad anywhere near as good as the one Poch had.
7. Son past his best and offering little for most of the season.

And he still won us our first European trophy since 1984 and our first trophy of any note in 17 years - many tried and failed. He's also wiped out all opportunities for those tired 'Spurs trophy cabinet' jokes, and many others.

The one blot on his copybook was finishing 17th. All things being considered, it's a small price to pay (means f'all now) for CL next season, and bringing in better players etc.

Maybe with a good transfer window, less injuries and more strength in depth, Ange just might pull off more than another 4-0 at the Etihad.

So, if Ange has to go, the guy coming in better be some amazing manager, because if he's not, it will just be another reset, before the next one.
Poch inherited a better squad. I think he had bentalab and mason in midfield two young kids. A young Dier, walker, rose, no Kane, and a lot of dross. Yet he got 5th and LC final. 2nd season we were in a title race. So good progression. Ok no trophy but at least we had plenty of cutting edge ganes as it were.

Those 1st games were just "new manager "bounce" clearly...then he put his stamp on the club...
If he's back next season, it will be the same thing but without those 10 games...
If you look at things by half-seasons, I believe we have been worse every half-season than the one before. Finishing as everyone knows, perilously close to the drop zone.

Returning him next year under the auspices of "Well we can sack him after 10 games if we're bad" wastes the whole summer, the whole CL campaign next year, and the chance at anyone who might be available this summer in favor of the sort of manager who's available in October.

I think the difference between us is that the disgrace of having lost 22 fucking times in the league far outweighs the temporary joy at winning a trophy.
We played Utd in the final. The only team in the competition shitter than us. Tim fucking Sherwood could have managed to get us a win in that final.
But he didn't win a Final though.... NONE of them did!

If winning a Trophy was so easy, then we woulda done it in 2002, 2006, 2010, 2015-16, 2019... and so on...
but we didn't.

We found a cheat code to CL football by 'only having to win' the Europa League, and not have to worry about the League...

It's not to be sniffed at...

The main difference was quality and the standard cup final stuff like not conceding a bullshit penalty within a minute.

It's not all mentality. Liverpool didn't have to play that well but they had the inherent quality to worry us and they had the individual defenders who didn't make a single error all game and a brilliant goalkeeper. United had Onana and Luke Shaw doing their routine.

If Ange had come up against that Liverpool team in the same final, we'd have been pummelled. United were a gift of a team to play.
It was shown up in 2 league games this season and 2nd leg semi. How many goals did we concede to dippers this season?

We finished 17th?? On 38 points ?????

Fuck me he’s not a prophet because he predicted we would win something and we did. He threw the rest of the season away to focus hard on what he knew was by far the easiest thing to win because the calibre of opposition is incredibly low compared to the Prem.

‘Delivers’ - guy won a trophy but football has been shocking for a year and a half and we’ve seen our worst league season in forever. He hasn’t delivered shit. The EL win gets him a thank you and a goodbye cheque.
I don’t think Ange threw anything away. He has been very opportunist by suggesting he chose to ignore the league from Jan onwards to concentrate on the Europa League. I just don’t see Levy letting this happen with each place lost depriving us of valuable PL prize money especially when victory in the EL was far from guaranteed bearing in mind we hadn’t won it for 41 years. He is just a clueless shit manager who has pulled the wool of the eyes of some of our fan base to excuse our diabolical league performance. However if I was a season ticket holder I would be tempted to call Ange’s bluff by writing to Levy to demand a refund of my season ticket

Just saying things doesn't make it true. It has to be believable.

Liverpool were an extremely capable team who had finished on 98 points and were one of Europe's finest teams with an incredibly stable core. World class centre back, defensive mid, goalkeeper, right winger, world class coach. Of course they believed they would win more than the team who had barely scraped fourth.

Ange came across a team who yes, have the history and name of Manchester United, but the reality was an out of his depth coach with zero elite level experience, a patchwork squad which was one place above us in the league, who we had already beaten numerous times in the season. Of course our squad believed !!!

If we'd played even say this seasons Newcastle in that final, I highly doubt we win no matter how many times Ange says we could .. because Howe is saying the same fucking thing and he has a stronger team which has beaten us already and is way higher in the league.
I think Ange’s tactics giving manure the ball if done against teams like pool, goons or toon even Villa and we would have shipped in 5. We had not attacking threat at all.
