The full video...bats away yet another Harry Kane question...

It may mean absolutely nothing in the end but he speaks exactly how I’ve always wished Spurs managers would speak. Firm, to the point, with defined clarity of purpose and honesty. Poch I believe was similar in Spanish but given the English struggles his pressers always left me a bit cold.

Arry at least was entertaining. But the rest have never spoken with Ange’s courage and honesty.

Again you are confused. I answered your question. I said no. But your question means nothing divorced from its original context (final league position). Perhaps it would help if you say what actually 'tells the whole story'.

Progress is a general term that can be applied to many areas. Maybe Ange improves Lo Celso. Maybe we score more goals. Lots of maybes. But the final position in the league tells us if we've really progressed and there's no getting away from that. If we are still 8th but going for it he's steadied the ship (and I'm ok with that). If we we are 6th+, he's doing great. If we're in your comfort zone of 14th (which I don't think we've seen since Pleat), he's failing miserably. All your 'signs of progress' mean fuck all if that's where we finally reside (which, btw, I don't think we will).

Ange has been brought in to help us win. We need to give him time (I don't expect a fast start), but that doesn't mean he has free reign to let us sink to the bottom third of the table.
So you wouldn't look at the underlying data to gauge how much the team has improved. It's only the league table that matters. Fair enough. I just hope our fans and chairman don't look at it as simplistically, should the league position not be what we would like it to be.

Of all the pointless debates on here, this must be the most pointless.

Why? I hear you cry.

Cos we're winning the league innit!!

You are naive to think that a great many of us will be pouring over any data, smiling at improvements, if we finish three positions off of relegation. But we won’t. I am cautiously optimistic we’ll head back towards Europe (CBs pending).

Only way Ange keeps his job if we finish 14th is that we win a cup or something.

There's no data that will allow for any sort of context if we finish 14th because you can be 14th after 2/3 months which could be down to luck but over the course of the season if you're 14th it normally means you've been utterly shit, things tend to even themselves out in the end.

For reference West Ham finished 14th last season and they lost 20 matches and averaged just over 1 ppg which is seriously pathetic and the consensus was that they were largely shite, actually worse than Chelsea which means that these players will need to down tools for that to happen and if they do that then normally it's curtains for the manager.

My views on Ange is that he seems like a no nonsense guy and is probably a really good hardworking coach. still my only fears is his lack of experience at the top levels. He essentially has none. Especially at a very delicate club like Spurs. Celtic would even make Shadydan Shadydan look like a footballing genius, despite shady getting his only football knowledge from a “for dummies 101 book”

the premier league is very unforgiving and every game will be a fight. He wont be playing against Wallaby Dingleberries FC or managing in the comfort of the SPL where they barely had to turn up and teams would roll over for them.

it wont take long if we start accruing losses that the feel good factor will sour overnight people will start to think he is a clueless imposter. And he has absolutely everything stacked against him. Especially if Kane goes and the CB situation isnt resolved and obviously having to work with Levy. Im afraid he will be another manager fed into the grinder

Personally, I think Ange is exactly what we need. It's time someone gave some of our more "delicate" players a kick up the backside.

With what is happening to Uncle Joe I guess Ange will be happy to have some new questions during his press conferences instead of the usual Harry Kane ones. :ange-bored:
