While I'm sure Ange is a nice guy, I'm finding it difficult to get behind him for the simple reason that he's not going to be here long. Its not worth getting emotionally invested in a guy that will only be here short term. Let's face facts, Levy is not going to buy the players Ange needs and he'll be fired before Christmas.

Sad but true
And then Mason will take over for the rest of the season.

Fucking hell, who needs rivals when we have so many of our own fans constantly slagging us off and shitting all over anyone that wants to try and have an even mildly positive outlook.

I dont read too much into the preseason ange “attacking style”. Every club can look like 2011 prime Barca against a Singapore sunday league side playing for nothing in a preseason friendly. Ill reserve judgement for how we set up and play against brentford and Utd.

Maybe not as attacking, but 8t certainly won't be the boring turgid shite we've had to endure for the last 3 seasons.

It'll be a roller coaster ride, that's for sure.

On one hand that's true, on the other hand 30 shots is ridiculous against any professional team.

Ill agree that breaking the chains so to speak and allowing the players more freedom to attack is a positive instead of trying to shoehorn players into a system they cant play or defend in regardless

It would be interesting to know what Ange really thinks right now , he does seem a straight shooter so for the moment I am going to take his press statements as genuine , but who knows. I would be very frustrated if I were him

Just a counterpoint, whilst I do agree that some people will never be happy and always have a negative outlook on things, there are a few huge issues that remain which really makes it hard to remain positive imo.

I really like Ange and the way he plays football, from what I have seen so far I am really enjoying it and I like the way he comes across, also signing JM early on was a positive sign.

However, the issue is, any positive feeling I have about the manager and the new season is then negated by the fact that we have the same defensive unit that shipped 60+ goals last season and no amount of attacking football or system is going to prevent bad defenders from being bad defenders.

Then we have the fact that our top goalscorer of all time is likely leaving and we have to replace his goal scoring output which is going to be a very tough ask.

And the final issue is, we have Levy overseeing all of this which gives me absolutely zero confidence that the manager will get time or backing.

The fundamental issue is, it's hard to be positive when you have seen this same situation play out so many times before and you already know how it ends.

Do I hope I am wrong? Of course I do! But hope isn't enough for me anymore I am afraid.

Actions speak louder than words and I simply do not trust Levy or the owners, that's why I fear for Ange and the club.

I do hear all of that, but a football hasn't been kicked in the 23/24 season yet and I think it's fair that some want to talk about things in a positive way without being jumped on and brought down to misery town.

There is always something. If we had bought a CB but not an AM then certain people would be all over that complaining too.

I personally think that the team, tactics and general feeling of malaise from the players contributed to the amount of goals we conceded last season.

A 3 man MF, Bissouma playing, Madison helping keep the ball and a new GK for me instantly reduces our GA as will a new CB, which I believe we will get albeit later than I hoped.

Without trying to sound too positive. Wasn't that also the same defence that conceded just 40 goals the previous year?

I'm not defending our defenders. Most of the team shouldn't be here and we need to upgrade sharpish. But we can't judge a seasons defensive record in isolation when performing in a redundant system.

I would put money on us conceding no where near the amount we conceded last season

In my deluded mind I'm convincing myself that we are moving the ball up to the other end away from our defence. So where Conte tried to flood our box with cb's and dm's, we'll be flooding their box.

So we'll be trying to defend from the front. Probably the main reason why I don't see Ndombele getting much playing time.
