Woolwich barely made the CL in the last decade it took them time, 2 years ago they were clambering for Lego head to be sacked, but the board kept their head and are paying the dividends now. Our fanbase is starting to sound like Chelski and the Spanners wanting managers sacked without even a year in the job, Anges signings have been a success, it is the rubbish he has been left with that is letting us down as they have with previous managers

Which rubbish has he been left with that is letting us down?

He hardly plays any of the legacy players. Our line up is basically all recent signings bar Son. So what's the excuse for Ange to be overseeing such a poor tactical system full of new signings who aren't performing?

I just find this a really strange argument. It generally coincides with “ENIC and Levy don’t care about winning”. Another I can’t ever get on board with.

We had Lloris in goal, which wasn’t working, so signed Vic. We needed a strong centre half and a quick one too. Romero and VDV. Needed a creative midfielder to replace Dembele and signed Tanguy (doesn’t always work out). You could strongly argue we didn’t replace Kane as we obviously didn’t, but did Ange want a direct replacement? Fuck knows.

Otherwise “showing ambition to complete their team with key signings” is what every single club does.

Don’t agree, even with your rephrase. But not going to bore you or everyone else by going round in circles.

I'm not saying we don't sign players, but generally we look for value. Sure. every club does, but the point is when the club needs to push the boat out to sign a top tier talent that would help get this club over the line to win things, we won't do it. That is the issue with Levy and ENIC but anyway this is the Ange thread so...

Just for the record, I absolutely do no want Ange sacked. Nothing near it.

He could do with hiring a set piece coach though.

My issue is this idea he is going to get the same backing as Arteta or Klopp. It's just never going to happen.

Is a very valid concern imo.

We don’t need overhyped inconsistent potential anymore.

We also need players tough enough mentally to win despite the bullshit officiating we will get again next season most likely.

Very hard to recruit those players in our price range and wage bracket. Not impossible but very very hard

You mean will we drop £70-£100m on a new signing to take us to the next level?

If so that's a fair question.

8 of yesterdays starters were there before he came and 3 of the 4 subs that came on were there before he came, so out of 15 player/s 4 were signed by him. Slag the man if you like but at least get your facts right

It’s all possibilities and hindsight anyway.

We could spunk £100m on Osimhen and he could get a bad injury, or be shite. And Veliz could come back from his loan, spit on himself, score a jammy free kick at Villa and become our all time top scorer.

Every club takes a risk with every signing. I was shitting myself at the thought of Nkunku this season. Didn’t go well. Didn’t give Solanke a second thought and he’s had a great season. Nobody knows.

He won't get sacked, at least he shouldn't do, but we have been here before.
There is no denying that, form of the team since Christmas onwards has been appalling, some of the defeats have been the lamest I have ever seen and I seem a few shit teams.
Unfortunately no, he won't be afforded the budget/ambition of our rivals, but then no Tottenham manager under this set will either.

He was what they needed, yes. Havertz doesn’t belong in the conversation, unless the conversation is about who they massively overpaid for.

But even if Rice is that player, by your own admission, he’s not the best in the world. My initial response was regarding you saying “Both Woolwich and Liverpool went out and bought the very best players in the world for their key positions”. They didn’t. Even Liverpool’s best recent signings, Alisson and VVD, this place would have been on fire if we’d signed a goalkeeper with one decent top level season for £70m and a centre half with two seasons at Southampton, having previously played in shitty wee Scotland, for even more money.

World class / best in the world signings rarely happen and agreed, it’s a table we don’t eat at. But to say we can’t, don’t or won’t compete at the level Woolwich and Liverpool do isn’t true. Some players will join them, some will join us, but we are all aiming at the same level of player, with the very, very rare exception.
You’re missing one important fact about Liverpool. They were so lucky that those financial dipsticks
from Barca came along with 140m for Coutinho. Ridiculous money. Credit to Liverpool that they spent it on 2 top players in positions they needed to improve .Without the Barca money Liverpool would not have reached the heights they did.

I also fully realise that in no way shape or form does that sort of money guarantee anything - see UTD and Chavs. They’ve bought some absolute dross.

We’re just not going to do it on principle. For example, Eze. Palace will want an auction. As soon as it gets too high, we will bow out.

I don’t think the other teams would. They have a higher risk appetite.

I think it depends on the position. The less flashy the position, the more likely the player will flourish. CBs, Fullbacks and DMs tend to move house with ease.

It’s creative players and goal scorers that are far more risky. Personally, I wouldn’t go near Oshimen; I think the price is too high against the likelihood of him flopping.
