This is the problem of looking at the game through stats alone.

Yes Johnson's stats are perfectly adequate if you just take at his G/A output. But what's important is whether he actually helps the team play better. Does a last minute tap in atone for the fact that he's offered absolutely nothing in terms of possession, build up, take-ons, pressing, etc for the remaining 90 minutes?

On Sunday Brennan made fucking Trent look like prime Phillip Lahm and we lost 4-2. But he got an assist, once the game was effectively over. It wasn't a good performance but if you just look at the stats it's another assist per/90.

Brennan would blow Grealish's G/A stats out of the water. Who do you think Pep's starting in a CL final?

As for Sterling, he's on a different planet to Johnson in terms of technical ability. Sorry mate but that's a laughable comparison.

For the record, I don't think Brennan is a bad player. He's just being used in the completely wrong system and that's entirely on the manager.
spot on! same argument people use for son. "look at his stats". i watch the fucking games, hes a large reason we are shite and the final third football is dog shit! the goals and assists dont make up for him being a large reason of why the other team gets momentum in the first place.

idiots think grealish is shit because it looks like he doesnt do much! he takes 3 defenders out of position! he doesnt need to do more than that hes given his side a massive advantage with that, simple pass inside and his team mates have more room to do damage. we havent got anyone who can do that and draw defenders out of position when they are camped in their box.

He's also managed in the premier league and his team is currently 5th. We have scored goals mostly from his ideas and tactical intuition. Obviously it comes at a cost..... Now he needs to adapt for next season.

After losing our best best player. Who we have relied on for the last 5 years.

We have also just had our worst run under probably 4 of our most toughest fixtures in a row.

We have only won 3 games at Stamford bridge and Anfield combined in the Prem....3 out of like 80 or whatever it is had them back to back.

Under Conte we got battered in the European conference league.
He's managed to take a group of players who looked up for it and gradually turn them all into bumbling idiots who don't know what they're doing.

If it was Conte or Mourinho, fans would all be calling them dinosaurs who can't manage players.

Nope not having that. 4/5 players have changed. Conte would not have got us 4th. Conte no matter what would not be there this season even if we finished 4th last season. We were always a stop gap and that is not on Conte. It is on Levy if Conte got through two seasons with Levy he would have been seen as a much easier person to work with.

The simple fact is Levy has garnered himself a reputation of being hard to work with and that he has to have his way. He also one who loves to have his own private advisors run rule over what the manager/DOF is doing so he has had a whole list of private advisors.

It is like the Harry story where he had agreed for Carrick to sign for Portsmouth told Levy about the deal and he went and hijacked the transfer without bothering to tell Arnesen or Santini. Similar cases have happened with Richarlison where Levy really pushed the transfer.

The fact is Levy still has way too much control over footballing decisions which means the experts never get the total run of things.
I wouldn't use signing Carrick for peanuts as a stick to beat Levy with.
Next you'll tell me he went behind everyones back when he got Bale, Modric and Berbatov.

Exactly.
I still say, the positive start made it worse, in the way peoples expectations were higher.
Whether you are pro Ange, or anti Ange, you cant judge him on this season alone.
See where we are next season.
the first 10 games are not how you judge him. it was all fresh, new manager bounce, new system etc etc. since then its been utter shite. hes made it perfectly clear that hes not got a clue, his one way of playing might of worked in pub leagues but its been dealt with sharpish here and hes not got an answer for it. any actual football person would of tried something different now.

the way he rambles on in press conferences is a bit strange. get the impression hes trying to blag his way through it all.

I now watched this FourFourTwo video explaining our situation and got to conclusion that Ange is done for. Not that I would currently wish or support him gone, but I still think that is already almost certain.

- initial success came from interesting new approach
- form fell off due to number of factors and since Newcastle game, there are many examples for even idiots like myself of how to set up team against us
- poor results are starting to eat into players confidence and belief in the system
- more rather than less players in the squad will not fight for the system
- all last 3 issues just compound themselves
- after 10 game next season we'll be sitting on 12 points and the position is indefensible

This scenario could be avoided, but it would include number of things that just realistically will not materialize. For that to happen we should -
- sell Son (not fitting the system, absolutely worst imaginable captain but selling him would be easiest way of changing captain)
- complete the deadwood clearout almost fully with summer window (including sales of minimally Rodon, Tanganga, Spence, Sessegnon, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Gil, Regulion, PEH, Royal and someone from list of Davies, Richie, Skippy and Bissouma)
- get in MANY new recruits that are good AND are willing to run through the wall for Ange; this would minimally require 1 quality #6 (or 2 if Biss goes), 1 top quality ST, 2 wingers that can produce goals and take-ons, 1 or 2 fullbacks.

Points 2 and 3 will surely not happen, so there will not be enough of a change. So this end of season shit will drag on, spiral will continue and we'll be looking for new gaffer.

Very good post. For this system to have even a remote chance of working it requires drastic changes. We just arnt that type of club with that type of chairman.

1821 minutes played.

In the top 20 players in the league for assists.
5goals for spurs. 1 less than kulu who has played 2563 minutes.
He has 5 more assists than Kulu as another marker.

So I think he’s had a decent season. He’s only going to get better with the right coaching.

I know the work pep put into sterling his first couple of seasons. Paid absolute dividends.

Johnson a similar type of player. Making him properly effective has to be the biggest aim for him.
Also how many of the above minutes has Johnson been stuck out on the left where he is useless?

Did any of those teams lose the best the striker in the world 2 days before the start of the season?
Yeah buddy boyo, didn’t Liverpool sell Suarez the season Rodgers got sacked and Klopp took over? They also sold Coutinho during Klopp era.

Since we’re here, tell me which 2015 Liverpool players you’d take over our current players.

Would you take Lovren or Toure over Romero or VDV? Moreno over Udogie? Clyne over Porro? What about the midfield mate, who would you take? Upfront? Coutinho might be good yeah, who else? Firmino? Sturridge?

Does this not all seem too familiar, it happens at the back end of every season. Regardless who the manager is.

Ange has about as much experience at PL level as the general WSL female manager does. You can't transfer it from one league to another and compare it like for like.
Its the level of detail required in the prem, ultra small margins matter and thats why you need specialist set piece coaches, data analysts etc. Just rocking up on your own and farming out jobs to Mason and Jedinak all looks a bit, dare i say amateurish. The fact we now apparently need to refresh the coaches shows it was all a bit ill prepared and cobbled together. Not all his fault, the club deserves its fair share of criticism but you arent going to achieve much in the prem based on bravado and motivational speeches.
