I'm well aware of counter-pressing and it is not the same as the counter attacking I am referring to.

Counter pressing is a method of winning the ball shortly after you lose it. High possession teams often employ counter-pressing, but not always as a method of generating chances, sometimes it's just a way of winning back possession quickly.

Teams like Liverpool and Newcastle use it as a method of generating chances high up the pitch. City use it to suffocate the opponent and win back possession quickly; they then look to circulate the ball, they don't generally attack immediately as the game becomes chaotic and as I've already explained, Pep prefers control to chaos.

Conversely, counter-attacking teams are teams who like to sit deep and hit teams on the counter as their main method of chance generation. Spurs under Mourinho would be the archetype here. Also Conte, Wolves under O'Neill, Moyes' West Ham, Forest, Brentford etc.

Yes teams like City and Liverpool employ counter pressing. But that's not the same as Brentford style counter-attacking.

Now onto Brennan Johnson.

To me, he is a good player for a counter attacking team like Forest. Jose would probably have made good use of him. Brentford were after him for good reason.

What he is not useful for a high possession team (that also employs counter pressing). That much should be fucking obvious by now.

For one, he's not a particularly good presser. He's not very strong in the challenge, his timing of pressing runs seems a bit off, and frankly he often looks like he lacks effort. Out of Son, Kulu and Brennan, Brennan is quite clearly the worst at ball winning.

Then you have the problem that he's not good at ball retention. You can't fire the ball into him and expect him to keep it and relieve pressure, like you can with Kulu, the only one of our forwards adept at ball retention.

Indeed, this is a huge part of our problems right now - our games are far too transitional because every time the ball gets into our front three it generally comes straight back, because other than Kulu they can't hold onto it and slow the game down.

Then you have the issue that the majority of our games are not transitional; they are against teams sitting deep in a low block. And what use is Brennan in those? How many games have we had against deep defences where Brennan looks useless, shunted out wide, denied any space, and not particularly good at passing or taking on his man, or crossing or shooting for that matter?

Upload all the stats you want, I watch the games with my eyes. Brennan will not be at the club in 2 years time unless we've reverted to another pragmatist like Jose.

Brennan will be at the club a lot longer than you will be on this forum, gooner.

Delete your post and don't waste our time ever again. Utter shite.

Haha you think there’s been a good performance in the few months since I’ve joined?

Was that the Villa game where we again did nothing in the first half, came and out and scored twice (great goal by Maddison only good thing he’s done all year and cross by Sarr) in a few minutes and then scored twice in injury time against 10 men?

No I don’t think so, I haven’t seen a complete team performance all year which as a fan I find extremely concerning and worrying which I’d expect to be echoed by fans of the team and not fans of an Australian on work experience.

As a fan I saw the biggest rivals we have, going for the title btw, stroll to a 3-0 lead at the lane without even doing much, and yet this guy is still supported by the likes of you, and I’m the negative one.

You carry on wishing and supporting what’s best for the manager and I’ll carryon doing the same for the team.

You aren’t a Spurs fan

Expect nothing less from the likes of you, no rebuttal just attacks, coming from someone who claims the quality of managers in the A League, J league and Prem are comparable it’s badge of honour mate.

Presume you're one of those weirdos who thinks you have to happy-clap everything the club does or it makes you a gooner. Kindly I'll keep posting whatever I like, thanks.

Nope, but I'm not a clown who thinks getting rid of a manager only one season into his tenure is going to get us any closer to winning anything.

And no, you won't keep posting whatever you like. You posted that you'd fuck off until November. So do what you said you'd do, and fuck off.

You carry on posting your anti-Ange, anti-Spurs bollocks, and I will call your gooner ass out every single fucking time. You aren't a spurs fan and you have nothing to offer this forum.

Again, bugger off.

Amazing how pathetically some people react to criticism of the club or their beloved manager.

You're watching me, are you? What're you gonna do, click the disagree button on all of my comments and call me a gooner again? Bet that makes you feel like a big hard man doesn't it.

Imagine being a grown adult and behaving like this.

Imaging signing up to a spurs forum as an opposition supporter and pretending to be a spurs fan. Pathetic.

You and a handful of other clowns masquerading as spurs fans aren’t fit to be on here and you’re not welcome. Just making you aware.

:nunothumb:

Edit: I'm sure one or two unloved fake spurs fans will think your post is good, but rest assured most of us see through your bullshit. I'm just calling you out.

You've been absolutely ended, son, so pack your bags and take a hike.

In the four leagues Ange has coached, in the second year he has won the title.

Let him do his thing.

I know what will happen if he gets us within a sniff of the title next season, all the doomers on here will be saying "Oh I have always backed Ange, he's a top Manager".

TWP's
Yeah and the season after he won the J League they finished 9th or something, no one seems to talk about that for some reason.

Then he went to one of the 2 biggest clubs in Scotland after Rangers had to come up back through the leagues after properly rebuilding.

(Cretin disagreeing with which fact in the above post? Oh look John disagrees with facts too, which part is wrong then John?)

Excellent post, clear to see if you watch the kid play.

If people arent prepared for a constructive discussion there is an Ange 'safe space' thread specifically for those that deem concerns treacherous. The insults all round are pretty tedious.

Calling for Ange to go is not 'expressing concerns'. It's the mark of a brainless imbecile.

So here's an idea. Shut up.

Edit: For clarity - any disagrees received from the 'moaning massive' as I will now be referring to them as, count as badges of honour, so keep 'em coming, non-spurs fans.
