For all those losing faith in Ange after 1 loss from 4 in pre-season, maybe check out Pep’s sticky situation at Citeh… just 1 win against 3 defeats. As someone said yesterday, there are no points for pre-season games. It’s about building deep fitness and trying stuff out.

Pep grinds out wins.

Every single premier league champion grinds out wins.

If you are expecting swashbuckling wins with incredible free flowing football every week in the premier league you’ve lost all connection with reality and you’ll be disappointed no matter what manager we have and what players we sign
See, here was me thinking that we saw that for much of Poch's reign. 🤷‍♀️

And for parts of the early season last season.

I don't expect it every week, these are people not robots. But LAST SEASON everything all fell apart for everyone, at the same time.

Forgive me for being concerned that it'll happen again.

It seems that there are so many people in this forum that really don't like people being critical. You seem to have missed the positive things I said about last season too. Or my huge defence of Johnson.

You think everything is going to be amazing next season, good for you. You suggest I'm being delusional when you have your head firmly buried in the sand.

Was it naive when we beat Villa 4-0 in March?

Flattering result, we scored 2 in the last minutes after Villa had been down to 10 men for 20 mins or so

And after that apparent good result we went on the following run

Won- 4
Draws- 1
Lost -6

Scored - 15
Conceded - 22

Not just the results but it's was the way we played in those games which was just as concerning. Yes at the beginning of the season Angeball was new and different and teams were not able to deal with it but as the season went on it seemed the opposition knew exactly how to exploit the system and tactics and by the back end of the season we were shocking in every way possible.

There is definitely an element of naivety with the tactics and Ange's stubbornness to see where the problems lie and to then solve them.

We had to grind out plenty of wins under Poch. I paid good money to see several of them in person. I also saw fucking Burnley take points off us at Wembley in person.

Are you consciously just having selective memories to suit your argument or have you just been broken by this club so you can’t tell that’s what you are doing?

I haven't criticised him for pre-season and have said the same about the games and fitness. I'm not Ange out, I'm "Ange-concerned" because of the late-season collapse.

Are you so blinded with loyalty that you can't bear people being critical?

I was a ST holder for the Nuno/Conte season. Maybe I am fucking sick of seeing wins being ground out and poor performances. Yes, it's necessary at times, but for half a decade it was the norm. Excuse me if that's not what I want to watch.

Much of what Ange had done I love. I hope he is able to get the players he needs for his system to be effective, and for us to push on. But with my actual eyes I've seen naivety in our play, and with my ears heard him say he's not the person that works on certain things. Like fucking defending corners lol.

So I'll temper my expectations for the season whilst hoping that we do as well as we could do. Let's all hope for the best, eh?

Even our worst performances were more fun to watch than Jose or Conte. It does sound like those 2 managers broke you a bit and tbh I get. They were soul destroying years to be Spurs.

Nobody is beyond criticism and every system has flaws. I’m not saying we shouldn’t know what they are, I’m saying it’s tiring that we only focus on them and every time those flaws get seen it’s because the system is naive and he’s been worked out.

When Conte stubbornly stuck with his defensive ideology was he naive and found out when teams beat us?

Your no gonna please some people no matter who Tottenham appoint as manager/coach Mourinho & Conte you could argue are two of the best coaches out there we had them……did it work, no! so moan we appoint a guy with a completely different take on style, style that suits us ……is everyone happy no! Mourinho and Conte are cheque book managers that despite *some* backing, weren't supported to the manner they are accustomed.

It was always going to fail.

Just for you a quick search. Now smoke it.

First link is Merson… the guy is clueless, you know it. And the second link is a Football Manager simulation…

So much for "every pundit said we’d be relegation candidates".

When it suits you want to talk about what every single premier league champion does, does every premier league champion play the exact same way every game no matter what?
Do they stubbornly not change how to defend a clear weakness like set pieces?
Do they look to pour forward and expose the defence no matter the score?
Do they look to play a suicidal high line with 9 men when drawing at home against their rivals?
Do they sanction paying £50m for and starting players with little technique on the ball like Johnson?
