Why does it matter what he shows publicly?
It's what I'd expect from someone who says they want to win and achieve at the highest level, who very publicly called-out the fans for not matching his ambition.

I'd expect consistency in this regard.

And due to his, frequently demonstrated, open nature he's not really the kinda guy that can hide is displeasure at things.

So I'd expect to - and would be perfectly reasonable in expecting, in context - to see it.

Pretty fantastic point there, if you have the brass to get pissed off at the supporters for lack of ambition you better hold that same energy for the chairman.

I have loved Ange so far but the one question mark I now have other him is his ability to recognise the ability levels required for us to advance which then obviously hugely effects transfers.

The fact he would green light us signing Werner after what we saw last season and the fact he insists we need a striker more than a winger is a huge worry to me.

Obviously hopefully I'm completely wrong

If this window is a bust and he rolls with it without showing some sort of irritation, publicly, then he's the yes-man I'm beginning to suspect.

He’s got to play the game aka managing upwards….

He’s been given the chance of a lifetime managing us ; if it goes wrong his CV gets a black mark ( big time) ; it’s as much about how he inspires . manages and motivates Daniel and his Uncle as is it is about how he inspires , motivates and manages his players .

Hopefully he’ll do the difficult bit ; then the players will be a piece of cake in comparison.

Van de Ven ?

Some fans would be slagging him off no matter what he says or does. It is what it is at this point and it's the same in every supporter base with every team.

The only way we'll ever overcome this is if the fat skippy plays an actual squad in the league cup and we win something. Then finally the whole forum can come together as one to celebrate. Even all the 200 accounts with the same two IP addresses in the off topic section will be shaving their heads bald and singing Ange's name.

"I think I said that it would have been great if we had done our business already, but I've always maintained a discipline not to go off and sort of get too emotional through these times"

He's probably doing deep breathing exercises at a minimum

You can’t criticise Ange for keeping things polite when he’s asked about transfers by the media. What else is he supposed to do? Do a Mourinho/Conte and rant about how we have a lack of ambition?

I’m sure behind the scenes he has made his feelings quite clear. We can’t improve on last season without adding some quality in key positions.

Think what you like about Ange but he never has nor will be a "yes man".

He just won't just panic sign a player for the sake of it because he "needs a striker" and would rather wait and keep working to get the right profile of player.

He'll have a pretty clear idea of what he's looking for which will typically be a striker with good movement who will look to run behind and that has a high workrate to press when out of possession. He had a guy called Berisha in Brisbane (that he took to Melbourne) and obviously Furuhashi at Celtic that fit the profile and suspect he'll be chasing the same for Spurs.
