His lack of will to adapt to a league that demands it of his style, could cost him his job.

We look like last season.

His style needs a fresh twist to take it over the line in this league.

To be brutally honest, if he persists with the same set piece defending approach this season, he can’t continue.

It’s professional malpractice to set up this way. Foist a set piece specialist upon him Levy or sack him. The current situation is untenable.

Another match where set pieces make the scoreline difference.

Yay. The season starts!

Who else thinks defensively it'll be more the same? At this point I think that the intention is to just outscore the opposition, regardless of how many we concede in games.

it cant carry on!

it doesnt help when you got one too many pansies out there who are scared of contact and heading the ball. if you got son and johnson out there you are already at a handicap when it comes to corners. then you can add in the likes of maddison, porro and bissouma if hes playing...them 3 arent exactly going to fill you with confidence if the balls dropping near them are they. not saying they will completely pussy it like the first 2 but they are not exactly favourites to win a header.

so thats half your side there....2 of which will be desperate to try and escape the situation without having to deal with it.

if youve got a side that poor at dealing with it you have to do zonal with the 5 competent ones and position them accordingly into the most dangerous areas. if drag is on he needs to be just in front of the keeper ready to attack any ball thats gonna drop arround the 6 yard box.

There's quite a few I'd put ahead on that score right now Solanke's old boss might...Pochettino would love the squad we have assembled. This conversation is making me sad. I so want him to do well, but he has to change 😔

It's the tactical flexibility for me, it's literally the only thing but he had 1 bad run, he deserves time like we will give him but he is being backed as much as our club will back a manager

I'd love to see us take the Europa seriously

That first 10 games of last season have blinded a lot of people

Gonna be messy when it all starts to crash down
if solanke, bergvall and gray dont hit it off from the start and completely transform the side, he wont last long. that first half today was a throwback to last seasons crap.

its going to be interesting anyway. just hope that if he is a dud then he gets shifted out ASAP and we might be able to recover the season if hes gone early. we got a decent squad now that in the right hands could be good.

The squad is looking stronger.

Only have to remember our early cup games last year to know the depth wasn’t there. I think we all feel more confident for Europe and cups with the rotations in most positions from what we’ve seen so far.

I’m sure Ange has some new movement patterns ready to unleash we won’t see in preseason.

Our defensive record with our best back 4 last season was very good. Without all 4, we weren’t.

So competition for LB remains a problem, VDV is not the answer for injury cover as he requires rotation for CB. Which shifts the problem.

Spence seems the best rotation option.

Gray, Skipp, Davies aren’t who you want starting at CB or LB for a Europa league final.

It’s becoming possible now to see plausible variation in team shape without compromising quality or basics on how we play - speedy attacking football based on possession and slick passing. Greater depth in squad with more versatile players means back three, midfield diamond, front two plus conventional No 10 are all plausible ways to set-up alongside the expected 4-3-3. Wonder if Ange can see this too and will utilise the options to mean we are better set-up depending on who we play and state of each match.
