I think we did after the 10 match purple patch last season.
It's certainly evidence that Anges tactics work against the bigger teams.
Even the 0 points we got at home to Villa prove it. We absolutely dominated them, were denied a blatant penalty and hit the post twice. Just got done by having Emerson and Davies playing centre half.
Already 2 losses from 2 big games this season to go with that *sparkling* record above where our only big 3 victory was against 9 men.
What you have just said there is that if we remove the games where did well against those teams, we didn't have a good record against those teams.
The 10 games thing is a myth. And regardless both the Newcastle and Villa wins were after the 10 games. The Chelsea game where we were picking them apart until a debatable red card was actually game 11 iirc. UTD away and City away where we took a point in each were also after gameday 10.
It's not a sparkling record and you know that's not what I said. We definitely need to get better results from the big games but to say that Ange's system specifically has an issue with the big games is based in narrative not reality. The Fulham and West game games or the Villa home game where we wasted chance after chance... those games were just as much if not more of an issue last year.
For me, Ange has to show he can get a result away from home against the big sides and United is probably the easiest of all of them.
I can't see us winning at Chelsea or Woolwich or City or Liverpool anytime soon.

I know it was ten men but the chances we gave up against carrier bag were just awful.
For me, what I look for, is solidity. Game management. You want to see that from a side which is maturing to challenge. We need to restrict the opposition. And I still think our system and tactics under Ange are just naive.

We are mostly poor in big games and that has continued with 2 big losses in big games this season. Rectify it a bit with three points here as nothing else is acceptable against a completely out of form United team.
After and during the Chelsea game our season fell apart. That's what I'm saying, I'm not discounting the wins in that period from the entire season. But IIRC we haven't beaten a big 6 team since.
Between mid December and mid April we lost 3 games out of 16...
32 points out of a possible 48.
Over the course of a season, that form would have got us 76 points... Which would have been our 3rd highest points tally since 1985.
To say our season fell apart from Gameweek 11 is simply not true at all.
No, it just fell apart a bit later when we became a team with a near relegation level PPG and took multiple spankings.
There was definitely a decline, in fact if we'd have played like we did from game 11 onwards for the start of the season too, we'd have been lower than 5th come the end.
It was definitely a defining moment. Losing two big players to injury and two to straight reds, just before Afcon (wasn't Sonny away, too?). It felt like the end of our season.
But as far as beating big 6 teams: you've GOT to convert the chances you get against those teams (you don't get many), and we weren't. Still are not, in fact, but it seems like it might be improving.
Sonny was through on goal against City and fluffed it (oh no! nevermind). I lost count of the wasted chances/positions from Werner and Johnson. Johnson seems to be improving, and Odobert is promising to be an upgrade on Werner, so let's see.
Performance wise, there may have been a decline sure. But our season didn't fall apart. Results wise, we were on ridiculously good form. Heading straight for the top four.
For 3/4s of a season, we were fine. The results are right there for you to see. It was the remaining quarter that wasn't good enough.
Can put that down to squad not being suited. Teams "finding us out" or whatever. I think coming from 8th place the previous year, losing your best ever goalscorer and player and changing an entire system after years and years of neglect and piss poor squad management and negative managers was always going to have teething problems personally.
Any idea of us in a title race ended against the cheating chavski cunts.
But again, after smashing Villa at Villa park in March most people had us as favourites for Top 4 which is generally considered success for this club. Our season ended after that when we fucked up not big games.
Yeah Johnson does seem to be improving, Solanke looks good, and Kulusevski better in midfield than right wing.
We should get something from this game but I can't say that I'm overly confident, I just hope we do.
Well put it like this, we were game 10 on similar points to Arse and City, then we ended up what 20pts behind them?

His tactics in the Chelsea game down to 9 men were a tad shocking. We don't know if that effected the players confidence. Of course they're not going to come out and say anything if it did.
