Does Anges style not cause the defeat to Woolwich, newcastle and Brighton as well?. Brighton defeat more on the players I felt and would we have been 2-0 up playing conservatively comes into it. I feel Ange could play a 5-3-2, 3-5-2 a bit more playing against the top 8 and then playing against a press like Palace. I dont hold much hope, he says hes not for changing. I fear the worst.
I definitely wouldn't have the Newcastle or Woolwich defeats on Ange. Bad timing playing Woolwich as Solanke was only back from injury and Brennan was totally out of form. We dominated the game but players lacked quality in final third and then we concede from a set piece because Romero switched off. Newcastle game, we battered them and was very unlucky. We missed chances and gave up two soft goals (romero at fault again). Can't blame them 2 games on Ange!

Brighton, I'd only blame Ange for not reacting to them making half time subs until it was already 3-2. The introduction of Estupion changed the game and they were going with width, and lots of crosses. Sarr shuld have been brought on once it wen't 2-1. I think Ange learned from this as we saw him make that change earlier in West Ham game where he recognised we needed legs to handle their transitions.

Crystal Palace was all on Ange. Wrong team, wrong approach and wrong subs.

I personally think that a chunk of our fanbase are too wound up on the trophy drought and fear being ridiculed by fans of other teams. Being perceived as losers is like an albatros over people's heads and it causes people to lash out. That combined with this being the era of instant gratification means that patience is always going to be slim. Positives are forgotten in an instant and bad results remembered forever.

This isn't to say that Ange doesn't have to adapt. He has to, the PL is by far the highest level of league play that he has worked in. So adaptation is key. But yes, there is no patience because a loud group within the fanbase care too much about how they are perceived by other people and are desperate to win something.
Personally i dont give a toss what other people think. Football bantz is just the worst and i avoid it at all costs. I can even live with the trophy thing if we're really competitive. I loved the majority of the Redknapp and Poch tenures. 86/7 under Pleat when we won cock all was one of my favourite seasons.

I do care about losing 10 league games out of our last 20. Not being able to beat top 10 sides or win away, constantly looking like we'll concede and hovering around mid table.

I just dont get why Ange gets the slack that others did not. His record in the last 20 league games is now almost the same as Pochs in his last 20 and we were navigating a CL quarter and semi final in that time. Its worse than Jols last 20 league games, worse than Redknapps last 20, AVBs, bloody hell even Sherwoods.

And we are not taking a full strength team to turkey next week. I think he was expecting to get a result at palace instead it was terrible performance and will make him play a strong team on Wednesday night. Gone from being optimistic last week to very worried how it could be by the end of next week. Madness
Playing a weaker team vs City would be madness. This game must be why Sonny sat out v Palace.

We shouldn’t have sacked any of Jol, Redknapp or Poch and we shouldn’t even be having the conversation about Ange.

The style of play and the fact we are really good to watch does stand to him and rightly so. We were getting battered every week playing unter Conte and Mourinho. I remmeber us sitting back at home and conceding 20 shots. We'd be parking the bus everywhere we went and just hoping Kane/Son would score on the break. Thats where the chant "Tottenham get battered every where they go" came from. We literlally were parking the bus every where we went and hoping to get lucky.

The results haven't been better overall so far under Ange. But it is refreshing to see us battering teams and having all the ball. I hope we turn this into results and we show some consistency!

But to answer your question, Ange gets less slack than the other 2 because the performances overall have been good and we do tend to hold the ball and create more chances than the opposition. Results might not be much better, but the football is 10x more refreshing to watch

I do also think that he's getting a bit more patience because there's a undercurrent of just wanting to not have to change managers every 18 months or so. We've been a revolving door for a few years now.

I don't know if you would agree but, I can understand a couple of wobbles over a course of a season.
But we are only at the end of October and, already 4 defeats, two diabolical performances against Brighton and palace, with another one in the cups against Coventry.
You would suspect more to come as well, its a continuation of the bad form at the back of last season, between Ange and the players they need to sort this out otherwise, this will end the same way it has before.

Now that the dust has settled, I still can't get over that bad performance and for the first time, I think this one is all on Ange.

The way we lined up was almost disrespectful to Crystal Palace. This was a game to start Sarr (who was well rested not starting any game since international break), while both Maddison and Moore played big minutes on Thursday night. Our away form is dreadful and I think thats because we treat these games like home games and go out expecting to almost steam roll teams... I wish it was that simple but its not!

Both Son and Odobert were out injured, and tbf most fans were calling for Moore to start so hard to play hindsight now and blame Ange for that one. BUT, I can't help but feel that a top manager sees the challenge Palace will pose and maybe tries playing one of Deki or Madders off the left wing and starts Sarr. Straight away we win more duals and we have that extra body in midfield. More compact and more pragmatic but you will not end up in this situation where we keep getting "outfought" in every away game! We ultimately need to change how we play away from home and sometimes show teams a bit more respect.

Don't get me started on the subs... If the starting team was wrong then the subs were even worse. We ended up with 4 forwards on the pitch for the last 30 mins and it was evident that this was something we never even worked on in training.. This was shocking management! You can't start the game with both Kulusevski and Maddison and then sub them both off together! One of them two should always be on the field. I feel like this was a kneejerk substitution and not one that had been planned correctly. The formation made no sense.

From a Palace point of view, how easy were we to play against? Simple. The Palace manager probably guessed we'd go all out attack and with 2 lightweight wingers in our front 3, Solanke was our only outball. By playing a back 3, it was very easy to nulify him and they knew we'd never go long to Brennan or Mikey. So we just keep playing out. They pressed very well and took Bissouma out of the build up meaning we had to take more risks. We kept playing out with no outball until we got caught. 1-0 Palace. The game was still there for us, but we made the wrong subs and ultimately offered nothing in the second half playing what appeared to be some sort of 4-2-4 formation which every played looked frustrated in.

First time I've said this all season. This defeat is all on Ange. Lets hope he learns from it, we approach away games differently, and that his in game substitutes get better.

Yep. Very well put and I agree with all of it really.

I mean Sarr situation reminds me of ending periods for some other mangers.
At times they were given answers almost accidentally. Yet they force their own eyes shut and turn it back to worse.

Sarr coming on in WHam game was very good move. After him being only used for very short stretch in EL game, I was absolutely certain that he would start an EPL away game, given his input to West Ham win. But he did not.

To some extent I do understand putting Madders and Kulu both to the field. But to sub them off BOTH. OK I get it - Bergvall is not ready to be starter in EPL. But why not try something and put on Bergvall or Gray to #8 position once Madders and Kulu were taken out? Why?

Based on his comments after game, I don't think he understands anything. He only talks about players performances, adds opposition killing the tempo (which is cleaver/efficient solution for them btw) and us not battling enough. But never mentions how we were set up and approached it. So I've got a fear that next time around we'll start exactly the same way again. Hope I am wrong, but we'll see.

I'd have Eric Ten Hag in a heartbeat. Proven quality...

Apologies, I appear to have timewarped to early April 2022.

Still, if I'm not mistaken he was the preferred choice back then, led the poll comfortably I seem to recall.

Who would ever have thought that people on the internet could be wrong?

I think there is a massive disconnect between some fans and what the club are actually trying to do. If people on here genuinely believe that the club are considering sacking Ange then I don't think they have a clue whats going on.

Ange will 100% finish out this season and if it all goes wrong and we finish midtable then the club might consider changing in the Summer. But if people on here think we'll have Ryan Mason taking over in February or March to finish out the season again the I really don't know what to say to them haha

Relax. Ange is 100% finishing out the season, hopefully the results improve and we will all want him here again next season.

Thought I was in this thread when I posted this earlier and it probably belongs in here. Basically as soon as we hear murmerings of discontent on the training ground his time is up. That is when we know he is on the way out.

Ange is a proven winner, but needs time to build. Not at top flight? We have tested top flight, Mou and Conte, and that gave us nor pocals or joy.

Sorry but this really holds no weight. He's a proven winner in Australia, Japan and Scotland. No idea why some Spurs fans seem to hold Ange in such high regard for winning in backwater leagues that are a different universe to the PL. Gerrard won in Scotland, where is he now?

Ange really has fk all pedigree in the grand scheme of things. I'd take a manager who had a team punching well above it's weight in La Liga or the PL over Ange. Examples are Poch and Iraola.

Ange is 60 and this is his first managerial job in a top European league and it shows.

Can imagine the place will turn toxic on Sunday against villa if they turn us over . And let's face it I can't see them not getting a few every team scores against us. That's regardless of if we win on Wednesday

I don't see how we win either. Yes our home form has been our saving grace this season but Villa are a canny side who are tactically well set up. They will 100% score at least once but probably twice. We will need to score at least 3 goals to claim all 3 points, which is a damning indictment of the team under Ange.

We batter some teams. And I won't lie, the West Ham game the other week was the most fun I've had since the end of Conte's first season when we tore the Goons apart.

But I wouldn't say we're "battering" many teams. We've battered Brentford (albeit with less posession), West Ham, Everton and Man Utd this season - and don't get me wrong, all enjoyable. But let's not pretend we're going out there handing out a hiding every week. Having the ball and doing fuck all with it then losing isn't really any more enjoyable than Conte nicking a win on the counter if I'm honest.

So far the home displays and the European results have most of us pacified for now. But it has to improve, especially away and especially against our rivals for European places because our record in both is terrible.

that and the fact that there’s been a pretty huge overhaul on the playing side.

Kane, loris, Dier, hojberg etc (all senior pros) have gone out the door with the emphasis being on youth and the start of a new cycle.

I personally have no interest in changing the manager at this stage, and starting again from scratch. Willing to put up with the bumps in the road, improve the squad again in Jan/summer and hope for an upward curve as we go

Let's hypothetically assume that Ange gets sacked before the season is out. Who would he be replaced with? There aren't exactly a lot of names free at the moment that fits the standards of the fanbase.

There's Potter I guess. But I assume that he would get the same reaction as both of our other two ex Chelsea managers.

I like Roger Schmidt well enough. But I can't see people knowing who he is despite his work at Benfica and PSV.
