Struggled?

We had 85% of the ball and won 3-0. Only 2 of their players touched the ball more than 20 times.

We took our time, and managed the game. Gave some good minutes to our squad and were able to get out defence some vital playing time together.

This was effectively a midweek training session.
Blah blah

We needed ET to have a meaningful chance. We had a spell in the 2nd half where the CM and CB passed the ball between themselves about a dozen times.
They absolutely should have on in the 90 based purely on what matters - useful attempts at goal.

This is the most fickle argument I see in this thread and it's far too regular.

Those same players who aren't fit for purpose beat Liverpool the other night. Fairly comfortably.
If the squad was as bad as people make out, we wouldn't have managed that nor would we have managed any wins really.

Even though most of our wins have come against poor teams or out of form teams, they're still winning games (with less frequency) against actual PL teams.

The problem for me seems to be that our tactics pay off against some teams but not others. And when they're not working, nobody knows what to do. That's the coach and the players. Are the players allowed to improvise? I don't know. Maybe, maybe they're worried about being dropped if they deviate from Plan-A
When they do work, against a "compatible" opponent, then it works well.

What I notice here, is that when we win those games, the Angefans are congratulating him for the win. But when we lose, they berate the players as not good enough for his system. I don't buy that at all.
There is some of both though at the club.

Ange is inflexible most games so we struggle because it allows the opposition just to pack the box and that limits our chances.

The other problem we have is we can't break teams down in these situations. We need someone with more creativity.

Have seen us go to into these games above them in the league and clearly the better team that season but still come away with only a draw.

Let’s look at some facts.

Woolwich home league form
P9. W6 D3 L0
Our away form
P9 W3 D1 L5.

We are still playing our 2nd (inexperienced) options in 4 out of 5 defensive positions. We are not full strength. Far from it.

Looking at all that it would be a brave / stupid person to bet on a Spurs win.
Smart money will be on a home win.

The realistic optimists will be hoping for a draw.
In these big matches against your primary rival, anything can happen due to the emotional content and the passion that should be present. Of course, consistently producing passion and desire, as well as a team that is ready to work hard, ready to play and filled with belief is something Ange has not demonstrated at all.

By all points of data and reason, we would be lucky to draw them away. We perform poorly against teams in the lower half, to say nothing of the team sitting second (currently ahead for second on goals with our former manager who looks like a wizard at present).

It would take the once in 10 games good performance from the Ange era to win, and maybe a decent bit of luck as well.

When we are looking at this fixture and saying "what can we expect but a loss?" we're in a sad state.

We should not be despairing of our chances against a rival but this is where we've been led down to.

Been saying for a while, that as much as I dislike him and would replace with almost any competent manager, it's not as black and white as manager/squad. Both have something to answer for at times.

I'm uncomfortably optimistic about Wednesday, more so because the scum look like they're struggling too. If we weren't completely decimated by injuries and players being run ragged, I'd be tempted to say they were there for the taking, but right now I'd fancy us to take a draw. Although now I've said that, we'll probably play suicideball and lose 4-1.

True.

I'll admit Ange got it bang on against Liverpool with the resources he had. Full marks.

Against Tamworth, he should have started Solanke, Kulu, Bergvall and Spence. And btw, that would very like have made a big difference. All of them 6ft plus athletes that dish it out. Our four most committed players, more or less. Once you get a goal or two, they have to come out, and then you get a couple more goals. And THEN you can make subs. TBH I think Spence could probably have driven through a NL team on his own more or less. For me it was incredibly poor selection.

We have won there once in 25 years.
I’ve been there so many times we should win and don’t.

I guess that match day experience …. Gives a bit of Wisdom? Tempers expectations?
A sense of great if we can win but I’m not going to be that surprised if we lose.

This is a club that never won at anfield for 70 odd years. Statistically it just shouldn’t happen!

Our front 3 looked pathetic against Tamworth. And yes, I include the prodigal son Mickey Moore in that.

Fucking give over. We absolutely struggled to beat them yesterday. We barely had a shot on target in the 90 and they took us to extra time. I swear some of you will literally just say and argue anything on this site.

Only to the clueless

As yes were the clueless ones when you typically move the goalposts purely because you're an emotional man who clearly cannot be objective whatsoever.

How can you come out and say something like the below and then say you expect Ange to show something and for us to get a result against Woolwich at the Emirates.

Of course it has been a disaster. We've been apalling in the league, mediocre in Europe, and we are a typical away performance at Anfield to being out of the league cup, and you get fk all for exiting at the SF stage. You may aswell get knocked out in the first round if you don't end up winning it.

We absolutely struggled to beat a NL team with one of the worst performances in recent memory. We were an absolute hairwidth away from being knocked out in the 94th minute if that Tamworth player had made a better connection.

Ange is an absolute disaster. He was so flukey yesterday that we weren't knocked out, as he was versus Coventry. He seems to be doing just enough to scrape by and hang on to his job, but let's be honest, he's doing a terrible job.

As each game goes by, it's more and more clear Ange is leading us nowhere but to failure yet the Ange fans still double down even more so.

So we "struggled" to beat a non league team yet according to you were should be getting a result at Woolwich, yeah good one 🤡

Only a few hours between these posts btw, you're a mess lmao

Did you actually watch the game? This is a massive reach mate. We were a 90th minute defensive block away from possibly the worst result in our 143 year history, certainly the worst in living memory. But it wasn’t just the scoreline because I appreciate that sometimes you can be very unlucky and have efforts cleared off the line, hit the woodwork numerous times or their goalkeeper plays a blinder. None of that happened. The whole performance itself was shocking. We looked so toothless against a very poor side. I mean Tamworth might actually get relegated and end up playing my home team of Hornchurch FC next year they are that bad. Ange is very very fortunate that his team didn’t make history of the unwanted kind

You are so desperate to try and get one over on me you completely misunderstand my point. It’s pathetic.

I didn’t say I expect Ange to get a result, I said it would be disappointing simply because Woolwich are not firing on all cylinders and because we desperately need a result.

Are you saying it wouldn’t be disappointing if we lost on Wednesday? Very sad to see what Anges tenure has reduced some of you to.

Honestly you need to try much harder to try and catch me out clown boy.
